Rugby League is THE Great Game. I enjoy reading and writing about RL and my team. I’m passionate, opinionated, but always open to persuasion.

‘Meh’ is me. My team has ‘only one notable player’ notable for what? Inconsistency? Asking for a two year early release after his coach mate got sacked?
Apart form my team being in the death throw doldrums, my long habit of watching every game of every round has come to a screaming halt. The used car salesmen in the nrl upper management are untrustworthy. They keep making new rules and more new rules to plug up holes in the new rules. All these gambling betting ads and inserts are embarrassingly over the top. The game officials are either struggling to find fair and above board consistency of adjudication what with the oft changing rules and laws and their open ended interpretations, or they are looking rife with confirmation bias or maybe all of the above…
I don’t know really. I’ve just got a case of sour grapes and disappointment with the grubby ruck, the grubby tactics, the stops and more stops in the game, the players getting in the ref’s ear about every little thing and mouthing off at the poor hard done by blokes. The bunker is still bumbling along. The commentators can’t even agree on the rules and laws and the game officials’ interpretations and policing. They say things like …’ well by the letter of the law that is a correct ruling’ and their offsider comes up with… ‘oh you’ve gotta be kidding! That’s not a rule. That’s not a shoulder barge any day of the week’ or… ‘That’s a professional foul every other day of the week’. These commentators have their own biases being ex players and it seeps through into their commentary and can be very monotonous and one must reach for the remote to press mute mute mute!
So old school me is in the ‘meh’ stage of the game that is not as great as it once was before the horse racing bloke came along. If my team was doing better I might be less ‘meh’ My clock alarm is preset for footy for every game of every round and I haven’t erased those alarms yet… wow is me lol 😂

Meh naah: This NRL season stuck in the doldrums of post-Origin purgatory

My adopted Super-league club had me excited with a great start to the season but oh the poop has hit the fan with the Wire. Horrible results and I can’t quite figure out what went so terribly wrong. Get a grip Warrington and find your form. My teams are struggling big time. 😢
Once for the Wire always for the Wire even if they get relegated. My NRL team is battling to stay out of the wooden spoon race but the prognosis is not looking good. 😢

NRL News: Papenhuyzen set for return, Holbrook favourite for Super League job, Teddy backs Freddy

Best of luck and good wishes to young Papenhuyzen. Such a brilliant player, so much talent and potential in this man. Such a joy and delight to watch him in action. I’m no Storm fan – far from it, but I’ve missed watching him play the game. Big prayers.

Having suffered some brain damage from too many head knocks I fear I’m heading towards some form of dementia. Its been discussed. It’s a terrible prognosis. It’s very scary and decisions must be made before it takes too much of a hold. It’s devastating for the sufferer and the loved ones/ /caregivers. Prayers for all who suffer when such diagnoses are made.
Time to get it right. Tackling around the waist and around the legs as long as it’s not a hip drop would be the best bet with no more than two in a tackle. When a head bounces on the hard turf and then is piled on with 3 more tacklers the old noggin gets more banged and bounced around. It’s not good. Something has gotta give.

NRL News: Wally's tragic CTE diagnosis, Knights make call on O'Brien despite Holbrook meeting, Sharks to lose another star

Best wishes to the King. Never my favourite player because he terrorised opponents. He was one of the greats.
Having read through the comments all interesting, I feel a sadness that the great game won’t survive beyond a decade or two as a full on contact sport. Every knock to the head rattles the brain and causes degeneration over time. Some very smart person might find a way to stop the devastating injuries that are common to high contact sports and it will be something virtual. Crazy talk I know.

NRL News: Wally's tragic CTE diagnosis, Knights make call on O'Brien despite Holbrook meeting, Sharks to lose another star

Not a hip drop tackle from Jack DeBelin. I’ve watched it over and over and I swear I cannot see a hip drop. I’ve watched worse let go and not picked up by match officials post game. Is there a new rule saying if an attacking player gets injured in a tackle that tackle must be deemed unsafe, sin bin-able and worthy of long suspension? The bunker in this game was off with the fairies. The ref refused to penalise and go the sin bin route for Manly who were giving away repeat sets for ruck infringements repeatedly at opportune times for their defence to get set. I mean where is the consistency? Leave out with the hip drop. The adjudication was extremely poor and unintentional c—- something bias – was rife. Intentional bias is my take. How can I think otherwise when the evidence is before anyone who watched the game and perhaps watched it again with the rewind and forward wind working overtime? We are not the only team/club dealing with this BS – not by a long shot. When you watch all the games you start to see patterns being repeated and errors from officials start to look murky and downright muddy. I personally don’t like the way the once great game of Rugby League is going. It’s not enjoyable to watch anymore. Now and then you get a great game that flows well and is not rife with controversial calls and rulings. That’s usually between the top sides where the style of adjudication seems to change. All’s fair? Nope.

Sicko here. Replays will be fine re the other sporting events unfolding. 😛

NRL Power Rankings: Put the pen through Manly and Chooks - and get ready for a Spoonbowl for the ages

One single stand alone origin game each season – winner takes all. Alternating venues from NSW to QLD – not based on which state is victorious.
I know… it’s an insane. 😱

Origin's scheduling needs to change - just ask punished Parramatta

Yep. Sort it! I’m fully sick of it all.

NRL Rugby League:- the thump em dump em and run away crying with your millions sport of the century.
It’s all kosher I’m sure.

'Totally gutted' and 'pissed off' Holbrook axed for Hasler, Meninga also on way out of Titans - but no progress yet on Hunt

Woohoo!

Dragons CEO responds to Hunt bombshell after star half confirms he wants immediate release

Sorry? I can’t believe I just read that. The SGI Dragons deserved more than he gave over his years at the club. Get out your yearly stats and check it. The true story is within those numbers.
I’m pretty sick of being as mad as a cut snake but all this sticking up for him just sticks in my craw… I should look that up because I don’t even quite know what it means but it seemed about right.
I’m out. I’ll shut the heck up. 😱 🤢

Nah we have a pretty decent nine. We don’t need him.

Making excuses for his shabby behaviour? Walk a while in Dragons’ supporters shoes. His every wish has been granted until Hook was fired. Toys and lollies are flying. Pandering to his needs to the detriment of team stability has resulted in ‘I don’t like you anymore. Taking my toys and I’m outa here.’ ffs. I feel sorry for him for about 10 minutes per day and the rest of the time I’m just disappointed and seething.

He’s chucking his toys out of the cot! Poor bloke has had a gut full? I’ve had a gut full too.

Dragons CEO responds to Hunt bombshell after star half confirms he wants immediate release

Flanagan is NOT Griffin, whose game plans and strategies revolved around the halfback with not much else in his limited bag of tricks. Hunt knows Flanagan’s coaching style and it might not suit him one little bit.

They are notoriously slow at the communication business at the SGI Dragons base. Everything changes…

Sloan will come good with decent coaching and training. Fullback is a strategically attacking position and he is showing good signs in that department. He needs a bit of weight on and a judo instructor apparently because a good one will teach him how to take any bloke down… but that might result in the old hip drop. Hmmmm? Rethink?. Haven’t given up on Amone entirely either if Hunt goes. A different style of halfback could have him firing. Who knows.

He could’ve left five years ago and I wouldn’t have batted an eyelid.

Round 17 Late Mail: Jurbo an Origin chance, Latrell out, Dolphins lose one star but get another back

Moot if the rumour is true and the feather dusters sacked him. They pay him out and the Storm pays nothing? Could be wrong. It’s been known.

Jason Ryles was the perfect fit for Dragons. His rejection shows why they've replaced Tigers as NRL's basket case

Love to have John Morris and I dare say he would work his guts out. The next coach MUST have autonomy or the bums on seats in the board room will stick their beaks in and stifle and stuff up and drive any good coach to drink!
Winning anything – like a game or a coach or a new board and CEO, could stop the downward momentum as we spiral out of control. Swear words. More swear words.

Jason Ryles was the perfect fit for Dragons. His rejection shows why they've replaced Tigers as NRL's basket case

Yes the Storm rolled in and swept Ryles off his feet and over to Melbourne with promises and dollars. We Dragons tragics are mostly in mourning and lost for words… not really – as words are coming thick and fast and affirmative action may soon follow. Spitting chips and chewing glass and angrily uppercutting the punching bag with continuous motion. We are bleeding and to stem the flow the board and CEO must go…onto the jobseeker benefits ffs 😡 😡 🥊 🥊
