Thanks for the great story. I lived in Rabaul until the early 80s and still catch up with some of the friends from Rabaul International Primary School. Noticed that you are a member of “Did you ever live in Rabaul, PNG?” facebook group, like me.
There are 3 wallabies born in PNG, Rob Heming, Graeme Bond and Will Genia. One died and buried in PNG, Kenelm Mackenzie “Mac” Ramsay – Bitapaka War Cematery, Rabaul
Was Hector Forsayth the best fullback never to play for the Wallabies?
A spectator at a Brisbane GPS school match posted a blog on the discussion between 2 school coaches after the match.
Losing Coach: Mate, you’ve got some handy players in the squad, Who’s #8, #10 and #13?
Winning Coach: Don’t bother, they’re going to League
I do not know beyond rugby to point out what League is doing better (other than throwing a million dollars to a schoolboy) that a player would move to League even after playing Union at junior/school levels. League buys them “cheap” and Union pay premium to convert back.
My response to who would make a good switch from League to Union (since not many switch to Union) would be those all those former union players they stayed with Union starting from Wally Lewis. Please do not raise another debate on whether Lewis would’ve taken over Mark Ella or Paul McLean at 10. Just stating the point. Also many of the Pacific Islanders playing League has Union background as well, hence if they kept playing rugby, then rugby in general will be healthier than where it is now.
Will there ever be another Aussie dual code international?
Just for the record, from the 48 players, Ricky Stuart and Len Smith were non-Test Wallabies. Peter Burge, Charlie McMurtrie and Bob Scott were non-Test Kangaroos. In fact McMurtrie never played Tests in either codes. They are Australian representatives in their respective codes but there are debates on what is the criteria to be called a dual international in rugby.
Will there ever be another Aussie dual code international?
Great story. So sorry for your loss.
In 2003, Riverview victory was a tribute to the loss of two Y12 boys died in a car accident a few days before Joeys match

Interesting read Matt.
Did you know Malcolm Turnbull’s wife, Lucy nee Hughes, related to Wallabies James and Bryan Hughes?
I guess there is some sort of rugby associated.

Holmes isn’t THE oldest Wallaby. He equals Tony Miller’s record 38 years and 113 days
Greg Holmes, 38, becomes Australian rugby's answer to Steven Bradbury, and our oldest ever pro Wallaby
