Section 51 xxvi : ….the people of any race for who it is deemed necessary to make special laws.
This clearly does not pertain to only Indigenous people nor does this section or any other part of the constitution give parliamnet a power to restrict their movement or association.
Further,it was this section that was ammended from “…the people of any race, other than the aboriginal race in any State, for whom it is deemed necessary to make special laws” to what we now have as I have shown above.
It is you who needs a better understanding of our constitution and its history.
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
You ask everyone to imagine how they would feel if it was their ethnic group that the constitution gave power to the parliament to make discriminatory laws against. There is no need for anyone to imagine. The section clearly states the parliament can use that power to make laws for ANY race.
I believe that this debate needs to be made where facts and context are clearly made, rather than in a way that distorts or misinforms those still undecided, like you have done in reference to this section of the constitution.
Should Australian sport be raising its voice?
NSW rely on home ground advantage? They seemed very comfortable easily winning last years series, where all three games were played in Qld.
Can beaten NSW bounce back against magic Munster?
The old ” Throw em a bone to keep them distracted” trick??
That Grant Atkins is just so cunning…
Gamesmanship, grace, humility and did the Eels get hosed? Talking points from NRL finals Week 2
If Grant Atkins is such a one-eyed Panthers fan,why did he rule no try when Moses was bumped as Luai scored? He could have awarded a try and said that Moses being bumped was not influential enough to stop Luai scoring. That type of descion was made aginst the Panthers when Kikau was bumped by a Storm player the last time they played this year. If Souths lose this week to Manly, are you going to blame the Refs,or will a Souths victory have you singing their praises while somehow finding time to whinge about Grant Atkins and the Panthers again,in case no one heard you the 19th time?
Gamesmanship, grace, humility and did the Eels get hosed? Talking points from NRL finals Week 2
This is a terrible decision by the NRL as any State hosting the first two games will be afforded a huge advantage with home crowds.Claims by Paul Green and others that it is technically Qlds turn to host two games conveniently hide the fact that Qld were the last State to host two games back in 2017 and that NSW have not hosted two games since 2016.
Giving Qld another turn at two games before NSW and handing them two in a row is disgraceful and makes a mockery of any future claims of impartiality in regards to Origin by the NRL.
CONFIRMED: Townsville to host Origin 1
I think the lack of courage to make descions by the Ref and the Bunker official had a lot to do with the outcome of the game. Grant and Kafussi ought to have been sinbinned for holding down and obstructing play when the Blues were getting a roll on with quick play the ball late in the 2nd half close to Qlds line. Addo-Carr ought to have been awarded a penalty try as I believe he would have got to the ball first. Whether Frizzel had to go for 10 mins in the 1st half has nothing to do with any descion that needs to be made at any other time in the game.
Munster striking Cleary was also another incident that was overlooked and ignored by the Officials, and while I would accept that the Ref may have missed it even though I cant understand how,the fact that the Bunker did after the Ref asked them to check to see if Walker had punched anyone is at best very poor.
While I accept that the same case could be made for Qld in this game and others in the Series, the definitive statement that the Ref had nothing to do with the outcome ignores the fact that obvious infingments were ignored and the precedents in regards to the penalties to those that were given were not the same as they have been in recent past, including Game 2 of this year. The players and the fans of both teams should have confidence that the officials will make the call on obvious penalties and apply the sin bin ruling consistently without fear of being accused of ruining the game.
Grant's debut for the ages powers Maroons to memorable State of Origin series win
So would you agree that Boyd and Bird should have faced a punishment at least equal to Cleary’s original punishment when they were filmed breaking Social Distance requirements?
Nathan Cleary deserved four weeks of Payne but NRL went in half-Haased
I agree that a Welcome to Country is not meant to be representative of other Australians but neither is the current national anthem meant in any way to be unrepresentative of anybody who calls this country their home including Aboriginals.
A player could say that playing for his country has nothing to do with Indigenous culture or heritage and ask that there be no Welcome to Country or that they don’t have to be seen acknowledging the ceremony. The Indigenous jersey a player is required to wear may also bring about the same response..
‘I don’t want to wear a jersey that does not represent me’.
This is not about singing the words to a song. Many players over time have either chosen, neglected or simply forgotten to sing the words to our anthem.
We are all Australians, and if having a song played that you feel doesn’t represent you or wearing a jersey that represents somebody else’s culture is asked of you,
I think we can all do that, without making a statement about how you don’t feel represented.
No need to play the anthem before the NRL All Stars game
In recent years Aboriginal people have been anything but ignored in
the NRL and Rugby League in general. At the start of each Test match played by Australia in Australia there has been a Welcome to Country ceremony undertaken along with an
Indigenous Round each year, where great Indigenous players of the past have been remembered and commemorated. Why doers it matter when the song was written? I do not believe if the song was written in 1902 we would not still be having this debate.
If you try hard enough, you could take almost any line or phrase fom any song and find a way that it is offensive or doesn’t represent you. The Welcome to Country ceremony that is performed before each Test Match or Indigenous Round game has nothing to do with my heritage or culture, yet out of respect for other people if I am asked to I stand and maintain a respectful and dignified silence in acknowledgement of the ceremony.
These same undertakings are performed by many plalyers who are not Indigenous and in the case of those games played in those Indigenous Rounds then go and play for their team in an Indigenous designed/themed club jersey. What would your response be to a player who said he did not wish to have a Welcome to Country ceremony performed before playing for Australia in a Test Match or wear an Indigenous themed jersey because it did not represent him or her?
No need to play the anthem before the NRL All Stars game
This would also include the Aborigine people who’ve come across the seas.
That would seem inclusive and representative of them as well as anyone else
who has migrated to this land.
No need to play the anthem before the NRL All Stars game
How did he win NSW the 2018 Series and what did his ego have to do with it?
'Hardest thing I've had to do': Brad Fittler on dropping Latrell Mitchell
Except for last year, when he coached the Blues to a series win? Did he lead them, motivate them, teach them and show them how to win? Or did he only rely on what the players could “bring”? I know, you are only as good as your last series win and that also applies to your last game.
You think Fitler is the coach because he is part of some club and that CH 9 had some part in it also.
I remember Kevin Walters telling anybody who would listen that he desperately wanted the Qld job and the QRL knocked him back, only to begrudgingly give it to him when Paul Green said
“No thanks” when they couldn’t find any other takers. The success that Walters has had as Qld coach so far has come off the back of the great work done by Mal Meninga and the fact they had some of the best ever players in key positions. Without all of those key players in their prime,Qld were beaten last year by a better coached team. By all means,go back to counting those chickens……….
'Hardest thing I've had to do': Brad Fittler on dropping Latrell Mitchell
Of course,Qld have never won a game/series,off the back of a dubious decision or penalty. It’s a NSW thing every game, every year,to only get all the good calls.
Keys to the game: How NSW wins Origin Game 1
This feud has been going much longer then Origin 2017.
It seems Laurie has never forgiven Gus for stealing his chair on the sideline of an Origin match many years ago, leaving him looking like your neighbours dog bunched
up on your front lawn.
Sour grapes from Daley,nothing more.
Daley vs Gould: OK sure - Loz is right, but...
You still haven’t got over it yet, have you? The Panthers have been living rent free inside your head ever since Critta took the intercept off Walker and ran away to score in the 2021 Grand Final. We get it,you hate the Panthers. Try to cope.
