Unless the Silver Ferns have changed their elgibility rules yet again, I think you’ll find the reason there isn’t as many NZ players in the Suncorp comp is due to them being ruled out of Silver Fern selection so up and comers are gonna stay in NZ rather then test themselves int he best netball comp in the world

Big questions ahead of Super Netball 2019

Origin 1 is always the most boring game because you have two teams so afraid to lose they just hold the ball and try not to make any stupid mistakes. Origin 2 tends to be a little more exciting as both teams want to actually win. Origin 3 can go either way depending on the results of the first two games. Personally Origin and the overhype of it bores me to death but it’s the few times of the year my wife and kids get excited about football so I have no problem watching it.

Make Origin a showcase and ban the cretins

When people say voted as the best in his game by his peers there should be an *Asterisk noting the voting was done by 100 NRL players. There is no mention of whether it is the top 100 NRL players or 100 Toyota Cup Players (who are classed as playing in the NRL).
Any debate about who is the greatest player will always be in the eye of the beholder, in this case I’m sad that the author forgot to mention Dane Carlaw who singlehandedly won two state of origin matches for QLD.

Hayne Plane or Spruce Goose?

By 13th youngest list in the AFL, do you also mean 6th oldest?

Magpies to make it interesting in 2014

The reasons he gave for joining the Titans were a lifestyle change. an indigenous ambassadorial role in the community and his own kids tv show (plus a truckload of money obviously). Not sure if the tv show ever eventuated ’cause I’ve never seen or heard of it. There was an old Roar article about it – http://www.theroar.com.au/2012/04/02/remember-jamal-idriss-tv-deal/

What I find interesting about these players leaving mid-contract is how that affects their contract as a lot of them have back ended deals or vice versa so it’s not like they are getting paid the same amount each year. If they have a back-ended deal do they miss out on the money or if it’s a front loaded deal do they then end up walking away with full pockets?

Jamal Idris released from Titans contract to join Panthers

I don’t know if it’s the fact that it’s women playing or if it the sport of Netball but after the siren goes in the major matches (tests, anz championships, etc) the players get together in a huddle, link arms and give each other three cheers (or it might be something else since I can never hear them over the commentators). One of the greatest moments in sport was earlier this year when the Australian captain Laura Geitz played her first game a few weeks after her father passed away suddenly and her direct opponent, Irene Van Dyk, gave her a huge hug and just held her while Geitzy had a bit of a tear. This may not sound like something special until you keep in mind Van Dyk and Geitz have always gone at each other hard and earlier in the season Van Dyk complained in the press about how rough Geitz is in defence and that she is close to crossing the line in terms of sportmanship. After watching footy matches with players laying down to get penalties it always lifts my spirits to see the happenings at the end of a netball match.

Being a bad sport is no fun

Khoder Nasser and Danny Weidler, two names I would be happy to never hear or read again in any news story…

Sonny Bill’s about-face causing an almighty World Cup stink

Vossy wasn’t sacked, his contract finished and wasn’t renewed. There is a difference and it’s about time reporters got it correct when reporting what are meant to be facts.

Lethal continues tangle with Lions board

Michael Voss wasn’t surprisingly sacked, he surprisingly didn’t get his contract renewed after it expired.

2013 AFL season review: Adelaide, Brisbane, Carlton, Collingwood

I think you’ll find the Swans are gambling on the Salary Cap increasing over the next few years. They only have to pay him a relatively small amount this (next) season then up the amount later in the contract as the salary cap goes up and there is more room to pay him. Buddy’s salary is 10 million over 9 years, that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s 1.1m per year.

Publicise AFL player salaries to end misunderstandings

I don’t know what list you are looking at. Looking at all the lists on paper at the start of the year I would’ve placed the Roosters around 8 – 10th. Even now I still don’t know how they won the minor premiership with their team and are in the grand final. The Roosters are a team I despise, for no particular reason I just do, but I give credit where credit is due and the coach and team have worked wonders this year. Hopefully next year they fall into a hole and the Panthers win another premiership (and the Central Coast Bears get admitted into the comp) but for now they are the team to beat.

2013 Dally M Coach of the Year could be NRL's best ever

Does anyone know if Brian Lake is the first player to win the Norm Smith Medal and get suspended for foul play in the same game?

How to deal with the end of AFL season blues - and predictions for 2014

I think your idea of what constitutes a “Superstar” needs to be refined a bit. Will Chambers? Sandor Earl? Lote Tuquri? Come on mate, you’re scraping the barrel a bit there. Of those names you mention there are some players who are/were very good at times but none of them are going to be remembered as superstars or legends of the game in 10 years time (except Sailor or Sonny-Bill and only because they or their managers like to tell everyone how great they are).
It’s become a boring comp because players are paid so much they are shit scared to make a mistake and lose one of their sponsors. Start paying players less of a base salary and pay them bonuses based on performances and we may see an increase in the quality of football, and perhaps some of these “superstars” will remember they once played footy because they loved it, not because they get a shitload of money, free drinks and cars and pull some chicks that would normally be out of their league.

Few in NRL rival Marshall's Tigers tale

As a QLD’er i’m more then happy to see Dugan at fullback for game 3 since his cover defense was ordinary during game 2. If the game plan was for Merrit to try and jam up Inglis so he couldn’t pass then you think the fullback would be heading over that way to cover the sideline but from what I saw Dugan did very little of that.

Merit where Merritt’s due

If all their draft picks turn out to be superstars, like so many seem to think, then in a few years time GWS will be forced to trade out some of those players due to salary cap problems (unless they are still being given concessions by the AFL). The quality of the lesser rung players will determine whether they make it to finals time as the superstars can only carry a team so far.

Patience over panic stations for Giants

You forgot to mention St Kilda’s playing list is also 24+, how good are they going? Age doesn’t always equal maturity or quality of player so you need to stop using age as an argument for the Giants. The Lions have the third youngest list but rarely is their age mentioned.

Patience over panic stations for Giants

Nicely written. When the Firebirds play the Thunderbirds in the Grand Final the game should see a marked increase in viewing audience, partly due to them being over the negativity of league and afl at the moment, partly because it will be a cracker of a game. There will also be a lot of blokes out there who will complain when their missus puts the game on the tv until they realise they can perve on Geitzy, Hallinan, Medhurst, Van Bertouch and others and then realising netball is definitely a game worth watching on a regular basis.

Quick primer on 2013 ANZ Championship

I believe the term to best describe the NSW performance last night would be “Dead Cat Bounce”.
Many QLD’ers don’t mind feeling bad about one game because we know in a few weeks time we won’t have to feel bad for another whole year

Here you go, Maroons, some excuses for you

No tears, just stating facts.

Here you go, Maroons, some excuses for you

I can’t read the Courier-Mail anymore as they now want to charge me to do it so I come hear to read expert opinions and stupid comments.

Here you go, Maroons, some excuses for you

I don’t know how you could rate both the Morris Twins. I couldn’t tell which was which without seeing the numbers on their back, especially since the commentators didn’t seem to know

The Roar Origin special: Ryan and Brett's player rankings

I’ve had some time to find my serenity and analyse last night’s little footy match and here’s some of the more important points I found,
* For the game that is meant to be the best example of rugby league, it was pretty boring. Not a lot happened and there was so many dropped balls and players slipping when they tried to step. Time for the NRL to stop bending over for channel 9 and put the game on a saturday afternoon when it is dry and fans can enjoy the time before and after the game
* QLD need to play for more then 20 minutes if they want to beat NSW, at least 35 minutes based on what I saw last night
* Mitchell Pearce is pound for pound one of the best fighters in rugby league, provided he is standing behind three of his team-mates when throwing a punch
* TV channels need to decide if they are supporting the “one punch can kill” campaign or they prefer to glorify violence since a lot of the footage this morning is focused on someone king hitting another player
* QLD need to forget finding their spiritual centre before the match and start slapping each other in the face and calling each other some nasty names so they are awake at the kick-off
* There has to be a better ref then Ashley Klein
* QLD lost yet i’m yet to hear anyone call for a change to the team, NSW win and some fans still want Pearce dropped
* Channel nine need to drop that eagle eye camera crap and use the widescreen more, especially so we can see how far offside players at at the pley the ball without the ref ever penalising them for it
* It’s only a game… until QLD demoralises NSW in game 2 and 3 then it’s another year of reminding NSW why they suck

Here you go, Maroons, some excuses for you

I was wondering why the waterboys were on the field when the first kick-off was being taken. Surely no-one needed a drink or magic sponge at that stage

Here you go, Maroons, some excuses for you

Size isn’t important in Origin, it’s the toughness and competitiveness of the players. Langer, Dallas Johnson and Gillmeister are a few of QLD’s toughest players over the years but none of them were exactly giant in size. Compare that to players like Hayne who goes missing when the chips are down or yells at the ref instead of trying to stop a player from scoring under the post (ala yesterday’s game). It will be interesting to see how many of the NSW players this year show some sort of toughness on the field.

NSW Blues 2013 State of Origin team: who missed out?

I’d like to see them do a joint press conference where the teams are announced position by position by each coach. Maybe have the cheer squads there and make it into a one hour tv special and add to the whole sceptical that is State of Origin. If they can sell the City-Country match as part of the tv rights then surely they could make this just as exciting and put it on tv.
Number 1 for QLD, Billy Slater. Number 1 for NSW, Jarryd Hayne. Number 2 for QLD…
