While i think Eddie has put his foot in his mouth many times, I have to argue against your comment that Collingwood was better and won after he left. In his time as President, Collingwood made 2002-03 grand finals, won in 2010, played in 2011 grand final and 2018 grand final. Thats not too bad. Yes only won 1, but they are hard to win.

Finlayson's wife blasts 'incredibly embarrassing' reporting on husband's response to homophobic slur ban

Don, you’re as one eyed as they come. Freo won’t be top 4, but I actually have to agree with here otherwise. Freo mids are better. Fyfe is injury prone, but even if he does get injured, you have great young miss, Darcy and Jackson. Plus Amiss will be better. Hawthorn have good recent pick ups, but they are still too raw and our backline has been decimated with injury. So yeah, hawks will stay in bottom half and freo should rise…or the coach may be done. They have the talent after all

AFL Oracle: There's always one! Which of last year's bottom five is September-bound in 2024?

no no they never used drugs at west coast. Cousins is innocent

yeah. As covering something could be anything. Hence ASADA cant accept that. He was stupid to not just test positive for pot. He wouldve got a slap on the wrist

Brockman (disappointed to lose), Koschitzke (going no where) Ryan (3games) , Liam Shiels (forced to leave) Isaac Smith (was sad to see go, but in his 30’s and we were rebuilding..) Tim O’Brien (absolute spud), Gunston( back at hawthorn), Tom Mitchell (too slow and old for our game style – we basically kicked him out…happy for him though)O’Meara ( this one I was sad to lose…but it was us who shopped him around), Ceglar (played how many games at Geelong??)Pittonet (very average)Duryea (extremely average), Burton (it’s called Wingard trade) Hodge (forced to retire) Grant Birchall (forced to retire) , Jordan Lewis (for Ed to essentially retire, but got a gig at Melbourne), Hill (admittedly a big loss) Sam Mitchell (retired essentially dude…went to eagles to coach), Rioli (retired due to our racist ex coach…passed off about this) Jed Anderson (spud), Matt Suckling (another average footballer)…
You’ve listed a bunch of no bodies or ex champions who retired…hence we are rebuilding. The players you have lost have gone on to be champions…it’s not a criticism on freo, it’s just a fact. It’s actually amazing that you’re not worse than eagles, as you have lost a lot of star power. But you have gotten some good kids, which is why you’re doing ok.
But you’re arguing against yourself.
Arguing with you Don is like arguing with someone like trump

I just disagree. Schulz was an excellent player for freo and unfortunately will be for Collingwood

You’re just raving about who you’re getting with luck 34…when in fact it’ll be much later. Just saying that you’re overselling what you got. If it’s my club, i would be gutted we lost the talent…but it’s how it is in this game. Freo has lost a lot more players than many teams over the years though.

when you put in academy picks and multiple father sons, pick 34 will be around pick 40-42

haha. The main man. Thats hilarious

Short response, yes. I guarantee you would have argued he was worth 2 first rounders if he was still aprt of Freo, but now he’s gone, hes known as a spud and only worth pick 34

Theres always minimum 2 to 3 changes. GWS for top 4…Carlton and Collingwood and Brissy for top 4…
Other top 8 will probably be Sydney (close to top 4), Melbourne (if Oliver gets his head right), but they could drop out. Doggies have too good a list to not challenge again and then last spot between Port and Adelaide. If not, Gold Coast could be the surprise this year. THey have the cattle and now the coach.
I think Bombers are done and will fall further…Same with Saints. Geelong and Richmond will fall hard. Freo will stay mid range but out of 8 and bottom 4 will be Eagles, Essendon, Richmond, North and Hawthorn 5th last, with Geelong 6th last.

I would rate us higher b/c we missed on those. Henry is average at best…Ratogolea is also average…big and athletic, but average…kind of like CHol. And McKay is big, but slow.
We werent 2nd on list IMO, but not b/c of missing these. More b/c we didnt get anything great. In any other year hawthorn wouldve been 9th…but this year, there were almost no great players being traded. Schulz is probably the only one.

Reid is happy to go there though. Totally different to JHF…who was also lazy at North. I hope Eagles take Reid and that he’s Judd 2.0

You can be positive about Amiss…You were def right about him. He will be a star

You can never criticise your freo Don…never…I might start calling you Eddie.
My thoughts are that henry was not a star, but you got too little for him, considering what you paid for him and the time you put in…And Shulz is a very good player. You cant deny that one. Hamling is on a slight loss of depth, so no biggie. Just my take on it. C –

Hard to know. He needs to work his arse off i think

I always find it interesting whenm a player is with their club, hes a legend and he leaves, he’s a hack.
ALways…all fans seem like this…my club included. We all loved Kois, but now hes gone, fans call him a hack or useless.
Time will tell on ginni and Kosi…
Speaking on slow, but good players, Sam Mitchell was one of these and so was Dane Swan…sometimes it depends on your footy brain. Not sure if ginni will make it, but we’ll see. I hope he can drop the ego a bit though. Never enjoyed that.

carlton shouldve given melb McKay for picks 6 and 11…they dont need him, but melb would give anything to have him and it would ensure Carlton keeps building a young regenerated list. Just my thoughts.

I was gutted that it wasnt a carlton v collingwood granny. Wouldve been amazing to watch, from a huge, wild crowd perspective. Lions played amazing though and made it a great match.

AFL Trade Period power rankings: Super Swans, Docker shocker, and the best deal in Gold Coast's history

Its funny that, often the teams who get a high rating at draft time, actually dont win the draft when revisited years later. Ie. StKilda a few years back got rave reviews getting Hill and a bunch of other B grade players like Hannebery, but it amounted to nothing. Same for Essendon with players like Shiels. Often too much given up to get them and most cases they dont change much.

AFL Trade Period power rankings: Super Swans, Docker shocker, and the best deal in Gold Coast's history

Its good for a fan to be honest about what happened. Don is too one eyed unfortunately.
Losing Schulz is a big loss and i feel you didnt get enough for Henry.
As a Hawks fan, i would rate us mid table. Didnt lose much but only gained average players. I thought the hawks did well in getting Chol and Gunston for a mid season 26 year old with 3 games experience. Otherwsie i would give us a C or C+ at best.

AFL Trade Period power rankings: Super Swans, Docker shocker, and the best deal in Gold Coast's history

Let me explain. Ryan has potential, but is 26 in a few weeks and has a massive 3 games experience. At best if he does ok, itll take him a few years to get there and then he’ll be approaching 30…Brissy gave2nd rounder for 2024, who we used on Chol, who is 10.5 months older than ryan, but with more experience and proven capability. So for an unknown Ryan who is 26, we got Chol and gunston….We never wanted to lose Gunners last year. Now we have him for another 2 years while the kids, such as Mccabe and whoever else we recruit, build their bodies.

Jack's back: Gunston a Hawk again in dramatic end to Trade Period as Power land targets at the death

Vicboy, thats because if they bid pick 2 for reid or one of the fs picks like croft or McCabe, the clubs wont bother matching and north will be stuck with this player thats worth pick 10 or pick 18…i mean, god i would love them to do that, as then we will get another kid that we wouldve missed.

I love this! Bring him back baby.

'Contracted player': Lions respond to trade bombshell as Gunston seeks return to Hawthorn

I partly agree with you Tim. I think Neale is a deserving winner, but Daicos or Bont would have also been deserving winners. They all had wonderful, consistant years. Yes, he had a game that he shouldn’t have got votes for…but this happens to most players who poll well. You could argue that many of these players should get 1 or 2 votes and not the 3…but every year these certain players poll well. They always do.
Is it because it’s a midfielders award, yes. Did Neale deserve it, sure.
Thé but I agree with, is that it should be independent people deciding. The only issue with this is they must remain quiet and not let gambling pundits find out any results.
But it would make it more fair, as you put it, the umps are surrounded by midfielders, so that’s who will get the votes. I remember when I played footy with a brother of mine who was ruck and always polled well. He said he would always give the ball to the umps, so they would remember his face. And the one time I remember umpiring and thinking at the end, oh shit, who played well today? So you had to think off the top of your head, who do we give votes to.
It definitely means that when an umpire isn’t sure, they just go with the usual good players. Hence the issue and why overall I agree with your idea.
But congrats to Neale also

COMMENT: Lachie Neale's baffling win proves it's time to take Brownlow voting off the umps
