Wallabies to get new skipper, Bledisloe joy and shock Rugby Championship win: XV fearless predictions for 2024

Donno. Jorgo. I just love Ozzie’s imagination when it comes to nicknames! 😉

Gordon was dumped in and dumped on by Eddie. he will be a fine ten in time

'A really even battle': Tahs' No.10 jersey wide open after Donno's departure, Jorgo on track for Super start

Congrats to the Boks, greatest knock out rugby team in the world, by miles

THE GREATEST! Boks beat All Blacks in instant classic to claim record FOURTH RWC in controversial, dramatic final

Team the same as semi but Nepo in for Newell, heard it here first. Not what I’d do, but that’s what it will be

COMPLETE RWC finals teams: All Blacks' answer to Boks' bold 7-1 bench call, Smith returns for England

Faf goes down, Willie to halfback. Midfielder goes down, that’ll be a very experienced but very small backline. I hope it comes to bite them. Go the mighty All Blacks

COMPLETE RWC finals teams: All Blacks' answer to Boks' bold 7-1 bench call, Smith returns for England

So he should, the RWC won’t balance out all of Foster’s Firsts that we’ve suffered over the last 4 years.

Fozzie was one Test away from being sacked - now he's 80 minutes away from World Cup glory as ABs smash Pumas

Followed by, no he’s fine, he ran all the way here before going down injured

When the TMO came in, we thought there would be less arguing/whining about ref calls. But it seems the opposite had happened, there is more noise nowadays. I am totally happy to ditch the TMO completely, and have ref as the sole judge, once again. Have a citing committee, the same group for every game in a series, go over afterwards and punish foul play missed. Imagine how much faster the games would be, I’m so bored of every try being checked

The Wrap: Wallabies are on their way home - can they please take the TMOs with them?

Considering we already have 3 complete squads worth of kiwis in the cup, by far the biggest number, I don’t think it can get much worse

RWC News: 'Losing three biggest academies' - Eddie's truth bomb for ABs, Poms' 'horrendous' fear

Ball in play time 2022-23 premiership was 38 minutes, compare to 31 for super rugby. Watch some premiership it is a radical improvement on yesteryear

UK View: England like 'totally shot', 'brainwashed zombies', invoking 'fury and dejection' and worse than under Eddie

I reserve judgement on DMac, he had Christie as his nine, mo’unga had Smith. Handbrake pass to lightning quick, Smith clears the ball in literally half the time

Bledisloe heartbreak: Eddie's Wallabies denied by last minute Mo'unga penalty as ABs seal stunning comeback

“A controversial decision to reward the All Blacks a scrum penalty following a Quade Cooper knock-on…”
How is awarding the opposition a scrum after a clear knock on controversial?
Impressed with Tate’s after match interview, Captain material there

Before the games this weekend, N1 was Ireland Vs S1 SA. You can’t retrospectively change the numbers!

Northern view: Cheika shows up old mate Eddie, Ireland on the right path at last, Wales simply shambolic

Great wrapp Geoff. The big call was the right one, but also why was that the first time I’d seen it done outside of 7s? I hope it’s the start of a concerted effort to punish time wasting, I wish 7s interpretations were in 15s. However, one of many bizarre calls. Foley ignored the ref when he took the conversion after he was told not to, and tagged his team 7 points they shouldn’t have had. So he tried to ignore him again, his team mates next to him could see what was happening, but this time it gave there opposition 5 points they shouldn’t have had. And the game.

Such a mixed bag, I wish I was in the stadium to see it, smoke haze and all. Games like that are much more fun when you’re there, you don’t get lost in the minutiae that you can see on TV and online. You can just enjoy the spectacle and atmosphere

The Wrap on Friday: Call it all the time or not at all - crazy, ridiculous moment we should have seen coming

He stopped it, then started it again. Then Foley still didn’t kick it, his team mates were screaming at him to kick it. Totally the right call.

But, also, I’ve never seen it before so totally bizarre call!

Frenchy refs love their deals

REACTION: 'Disgraceful!': Wallabies stunned as ref 'cracks under pressure,' hands Bledisloe Cup to All Blacks

He told him 3 times and you can see his team mates screaming at him in the background to kick it

I’m not sure how you say or defence has been a stand out, when over the last few years we’ve broken pretty much every score against us record? Yes, individually there had been some spectacular work. You could highlight Ioane here, for example. But the system is passive and gives up space and doesn’t force turn overs.

Did Ian Foster just have an epiphany? If so, will we see it in selection or game plan for Saturday?

You know, rebuilding from the huge turn over after the RWC, there was Read (who started), and SBW (on the bench). Everyone else in that 23 is still in NZ rugby, so that is not rebuilding in the slightest! The biggest loss didn’t even start, Ben from Accounts!

Did Ian Foster just have an epiphany? If so, will we see it in selection or game plan for Saturday?

Part of the problem is we’ve heard all about these new ideas/structures/tactics since the Lions. But nothing has really, fundamentaly, changed for years. So even admissions of awareness faults are not believed, there is no trust. I still believe that we will be playing flat to the line again this weekend, it is the Schmidt way, combined with flinging the ball around for no reason. Because I don’t think there are any real ‘bone deep’ ‘learnings’ of the faults.

Did Ian Foster just have an epiphany? If so, will we see it in selection or game plan for Saturday?

Absolutely top notch article, thank you, Highlander. I have been sayg for a while that Foster is sounding like Cheika Mk 2 ‘We just have to play better. We need to improve our ability at All Blacking’ And it has ben very obvious that the rugby that won us the RWC in 2015 is not going to work any more. Sadly it has been that way since 2017, and has taken 5 years for the penny to drop! In the build up to the RWC19 ther were a lot of jokes about the dry powder the ABs were keeping to deal with modern defences, as the cunning plans (m’ Lord) for defeating them was referenced so often by Hansen and his minion Foster. But there was no innovation, no new ideas, just a push to be better.

There were a few times, literally a handful of quarters, for whatever reason, the ABs changed their shape of attack, and found go forward with it. Working off nine, or going more direct, etc. But they were never built on.

You can tie this into the the ABs defence, which is so soft and passive, that the don’t even see the benefit of modern aggressive defences – even tho it has stymied them in many games since the Lions!

This belief in just All Blacing betterer obvioulsy goes throughout the organisation, and thus we had Foster when the vast majority of the public saw it was time for a change. The NZR the ABs continuity of mediocraty coaching group, and even now players are too complacent. The attitude seems wrong, we get platitiudes about rebuilding (we only lost 2 player from the RWC final) and learnings. Nto one AB or coach hads come out and apoligisd for they way they had crapped on the legacy of the ABs, the jersey being in a much worse place than when they received it.

Did Ian Foster just have an epiphany? If so, will we see it in selection or game plan for Saturday?

What was the epiphany you saw? Sadly all heard was ‘I’m at a loss how to fix it’ 🙁

'No identity': What are the All Blacks trying to do?

Awesome article Highlander, on point. I’ve reached the point of thinking that the only way to get rid of foster, the only way that NZR will finally grow some and fire him (or foster finds a shred of honour and resigns), if for us to lose the bled. And the Eden park record. I’m willing to trade that for a tear up of the current regime, with hopefully the board going too. They are responsible for this coaching disaster, another re signing of foster, something 80% of punters in the polls disagree with.

'No identity': What are the All Blacks trying to do?

I’m not sure if the slap deserved a yellow, but Faf tackling white afterwards, when he was on the ground, did.

SA View: 'Should be banished to the bush leagues' - 'Criminally incompetent' ref torched, White's dive 'absolute disgrace'

Nienaber defended his selections, although he would give no reasons for why he made them.
“There’s always a reason – a rugby reason why we did that, but that’s privileged,” said Nienaber after the game.
“The players all know [the reason]. Every single player knows why we went that route and there’s a very logical reason why we did that.”
->
“The NZ Rugby board praised the team’s “magnificent” win over South Africa last weekend, which seems to have been a key factor in their decision to stick with the incumbent ”
