Brumbies fan here. Stephen has some answering to do here. Saying they lack intensity is not good enough. Boy does this speak to the lack of depth in assistant coaches.

ANALYSIS: Single biggest issue causing Brumbies headaches - and why it can be traced back to Fisher's departure

Genuine question Russ – what is your opinion of Hamish and his handling of RA? For me he is the most recent exponent of damage caused to Rugby in Australia generally for the following:

Terrible judgement RE Eddie
Disrespectful treatment of Dave Rennie
Arrogant disdain for the his peers and the general public
Damage caused to the Wallabies brand

Your have been conspicuously silent about this sorry episode in Australian rugby history. You can’t explain the status quo fully without telling this story. Where were you when this was going on?

'Definition of madness': Rugby reform must start with total cleanout of RA board - and this should happen next

Brumbies fan here. My heart goes out to Bell – it must be both devastating and frustrating at the same time. I don’t know if a position switch is the right move – if the pressure due to the prop position is the primary cause then perhaps they need to look at options. Does anyone know what the original injury was? Once broken a bone is never the same.

'Needs to be considered': Bell out of Super Rugby season as ex-Wallaby suggests left-field positional switch

Yes I am deeply concerned that any major upheaval will destroy the good work that has been done to acquire Joe, Laurie et al. Instability at the top does not breed confidence below.

Exclusive: Herbert claims 'steady progress' in rebuilding trust as RA seeks to avert more board bloodshed at AGM

The only metric that matters is winning, which the Brumbies has done far more than the Rebels and Force.

'Curse the money all you want' but RA must work out what it wants from Super Rugby - otherwise the game is doomed

Big difference is that the NRL is a much more profitable competition and can afford to carry teams. We can’t.

'Curse the money all you want' but RA must work out what it wants from Super Rugby - otherwise the game is doomed

Harry – at risk of lighting fires I can’t put out – part of the existential reckoning for RA and Super is the recognition that Melbourne and possibly Western Australia were bridges too far. Its hard for all of us to admit mistakes but the win/loss ratio at the Super and National level cannot be denied. Sadly this has damaged the brand that was the cash cow (Wallabies) and now they have less resources to play with anyway. Shrinking back to a sensible level seems like the first step (3 or 4 teams – you take your pick). Once the quality slide has been arrested you can assess where you are in terms of expanding to new markets outside of Australia.

I wish Greg Clarke called all the games. I really miss his enthusiasm and passion. I don’t know what it is but I’m still not comfortable with Sean et al. Sometimes I think he needs to take a page out of Greg and learn about light and shade. Knowing when to keep the voice level and when to raise it is an art form.

'One that got away from us': Fiji's fortress strikes again as Drua beat Force in washing machine-like weather

When you said south of France I couldn’t help but think of Giteau AAC and Drew Mitchell sipping Bordeaux :p Can’t really blame them if that’s the offer.

'We’d like to see Taniela stay': RA 'absolutely' want Thor for Lions, have 'contingency plans' for Rebels crisis

Smart thinking from Matt. Aussie players go to Europe and benefit from a better system and come back better.

'Such an emotional guy': Why RA should let their biggest star leave for the sake of the Wallabies

Christy – I’m a Brumbies fan through and through and I loved the the game and the result. You don’t need to talk up Noah vis-a-vis the Reds. If Joe picks Noah he picks him if he deserves to be picked. No need for this pumping up of tyres.

'Statement game': Brumbies smash Moana Pasifika as Lolesio, Wright and Toole light up Canberra

As much as I can’t stand the arrogance of Eddie, the lack of oversight and governance from RA put Eddie and his cohort into a position where they could spend what was later said to be excessive. This is one that the board and in particular the CEO should wear.

'Everything was approved': Eddie hits back at $2.6m RWC budget blow-out, says Wallabies can build team around young gun

Again credit where credit is due. Well done to RA in getting Joe and Lord Laurie. If we can increase the quality of our defensive breakdown we will leak less penalties and force the opposition to make an error or kick the ball. Lord can fix this. Joe will ensure that players are selected with combinations in mind.

Laurie Fisher confirmed on Team Joe as Wallabies invited to Ireland's 150th celebrations

The full horror of the Hamish and Eddie nightmare is coming home to roost.

RA reeling and facing a mass exodus of biggest stars - there are three key reasons why they're in peril

The difficulty with Eddie is that he was partially correct in cutting loose with SOME players and building to the future – he just had no game plan and didn’t realise his 10 depth was abysmal for international and plan accordingly (import QC).

'Fighting with one hand tied': To'omua calls on Rugby Australia to 'pick best Wallabies team' to stop international slide

‘but he came in and said we’re going to let you play overseas, we can’t compete with overseas, but we’re going to use that money that we’ve saved on you to spend locally on grassroots and community rugby to develop those players.”
This is a great point by Matt that I think is forgotten or overlooked. We can’t compete with the overseas dollar so don’t try to fight there. Use that opportunity to fix up things internally. I think the missing part has been accepting that we have simultaneously expanded too far at Super level without investing in player and coaching pathways. There is no logical sequence between club on one end and the national side on the other.
Admitting the problem exists (like the alcoholic) is the first step. Part of this is Admitting:
The quality of rugby is far lower on average than it was 20 years ago
The viewer base is shrinking and therefore the revenue
The flagship brand (Wallabies) has degraded over this time and suffered immeasurable harm in the last 12 months
We are in a financial hole at the national and super level
Following from these I conclude the following:
5 Super Teams is too much, and probably 4 is too much as well for the moment
There is a lack of a tier below Super to feed it
There is a lack of uniformity and standardisation of quality across the country (read centralised S&C)
There needs to be more justification of funding (ie more metric evidence based policy) when funding is short. Eg don’t blow millions on psychology to paper over a quality and cohesion problem
Obviously I can go on an on but this is a start.
In the spirit of giving credit where it is due, full marks to RA for Joe Schmitt and Lord Laurrie. This is a big step in the right direction. We just need to be patient with them. The damage done over 20 years and especially that done by Eddie and Hamish is not undone overnight.

'Fighting with one hand tied': To'omua calls on Rugby Australia to 'pick best Wallabies team' to stop international slide

So we paid for psychologists while Eddie was in charge and now we are paying for them to recover from his reign of terror. I see.

'There is noise': Rebels get psychologist's help as they try to prevent Super Rugby spiral

Genuine question – do you think 14k for Reds vs Waratahs is a good turnout? Yes it is better than the Rebels game but should we want more?

Super Round is a celebration of rugby - that's why it should have never been held in Melbourne

I wasn’t aware that such a system existed and I am impressed especially given there seems to have been zero input from RA. If the Rebels do fold perhaps RA could keep the system inact somehow bit integrate it with the remaining teams somehow? It would be interesting to see if any of the other super teams have anything like this.

The Wrap: Code Orange as looming Rebels decision places rugby pathways at risk

I am sad for the Rebels but they should not be bailed up by RA – the game is weak across the board and in retrospect there should never have been an expansion to 4 teams let alone 5.

CONFIRMED: Rebels CEO made redundant and coaches have contract cuts as hopes of Super Rugby survival fade

Sure RA wanted to axe/merge the Rebels for months – no surprise here. And again no surprise News Corp is the one breaking the story. But it seems a bit rich for the Rebels to cry over a few million in funds denied when their debts are well in excess of $10 million. Show me another Super Rugby club that isn’t paying the ATO et al and with those amounts. RA would be mad not to cut them loose especially given how we RA is already.

Leaked document says RA out to 'destroy Super Rugby' and 'turn members against each other' as Rebels' pain comes to light

Well done Rob. Well deserved.

'Fire in a lot of players’ bellies': Bruiser claims 'bittersweet' John Eales Medal, says RWC pain will 'motivate' Wallabies

I mourn the loss of Marika and Marky. Both fabulous players. Wishing you both all the best for the future.

Koroibete in mix to join exclusive club as Rugby Australia prepares for night of nights

I would add that I think the Rebels saga has been a mess both in terms of the long term health of Rugby in Australia and the management of the team. Results are near non-existent and the financial mess is manifest. I wanted them gone last time around and the Force to stay but there you go. I think as messy as it is this is necessary pain for Australian rugby to start a slow recovery. Spreading this talent across the remaining teams makes sense and reducing the outlay for RA as well.

Brumbies shut down talk of following Rebels into voluntary administration

I’m a Brumbies fan who also reads the Oz. I’m also aware of the animus that News Corp have for RA since their divorce. When I saw the article I was immediately suspicious. Given they did indeed call out the Rebels a few months before they did go into administration makes me think there might be more, however it could simply be a hit piece trying to be a self fulfilling prophecy.
