What is the obsession with television sporting directors showing the players' faces when national anthems/team songs are being sung prior to matches? More times…
Svitolina is my pick for the women’s. However another in the mix is Angie Kerber who after a very lean period looks to be playing well. The 2016 champion looked good at the Hopman Cup where she didn’t drop a set in her 4 wins, and is into the quarters in Sydney.
In the men’s Federer is surely the stand out and someone will need to have a day out against him. Otherwise another title will be his.
From an Aussie perspective I would love to see both Ash Barty and Nick Kyrgios make the second week!
Australian Open 2018 expert predictions
Not only does Katarina Johnson-Thompson have a great surname, but she’s cleverly described herself on her Twitter account as chronically indecisive, having adopted 2 surnames and the heptathlon.
One of the great features of the Foxtel coverage of London 2012 was the numerous dedicated channels and coverage of track and field events in their entirety (both live and rerun later). Alas, I’m not sure the 7 coverage will be as extensive this time around.
Seven Usain Bolt-free track events to watch this Olympics
Glenn,
Once sent off, does the team play with 17 on the field from then on, or can they field 18 but just have one short on the bench?
Rugby union, league and football soccer play one man short on the field.
Sports like basketball after a player is ejected just have one less on the bench but still the full quota on the field/court.
The AFL must adopt a send-off rule
On the Cricket Australia Live app, you can hear the radio commentary from Radio Sport NZ.

Many of the radio callers are excellent. Tim Lane, Peter Donegan and Gerard Whately come to mind.
Perhaps 7 might target them to jump ship?
Or they could just use Basil Zempilas and Hamish McLachlan more.
AFL fans weep: Cometti to hang up the microphone
2015 was totally dominated by Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams.
Serena went 53-3 on the season winning 5 titles (including 3 of the slams)
Djokovic went 82-6 winning 11 titles (including 3 slams, 6 Masters series and the year-end World Tour finals)
I am of the view that domination and predictability are not good for a sport, so here’s hoping that these two face some serious challengers at the Aus Open next month!
A look back at the tennis highlights from 2015
One place they are not obsessed with age is in the USA.
In the NBA, Tim Duncan is presently 39 and still a key figure in the success of the San Antonio Spurs.
In Major League Baseball, Randy Johnson played until he was 46.
And in the NFL, greats of the game Jerry Rice, Joe Montana and Brett Favre all played into their 40,s. And Tom Brady, current New England QB is 38.
Over there, if you are good enough you are definitely not too old!
Australia's youthful obsession: Forget the figure in the age column
I’m in the USA at present and every game is live on either FOX or Fox sports 1. And the national team didn’t even qualify!
