Played as a prop, loose forward, wing, utility. Master of none. Regularly beaten by sidesteppers. Coached at high school level. Ran ex-prisoner/ex-gang member rehabilitation home; working as accountant to fund it. For some, rehabilitation involved encouraging them to play rugby, meeting normal working blokes, & being accepted into the team, where their past was irrelevant.

Big difference between the underarm and the sandpaper, was that the underarm was legal at the time. NZ needed 6 off the last ball. Unsporting, but not illegal, and it was in regard to one ball at the very end of the one-day game, a spur of the moment decision, when Chappell was physically and mentally tired.
Sand paper was premeditated, and illegal.
The next time G Chappell played against NZ (I think it was also a one dayer) they boo’ed him as he came on, but he then scored a century, & they clapped him for his batting when he came off.
So even the NZ’ers didn’t take it too seriously.
The underarm was actually a massive boost for cricket in NZ, unintentionally one of the best promotional acts possible.

'One less adult in the room': Chappell reveals Steve Smith Ashes meltdown, calls out Lehmann, Waugh over sledging

Hi Carlos – thanks heaps for the info on your background. Did not read your post, but I have occassionally been in possibly similar scenarios, where comments based on ignorance have been made, that are simply not true. Incredibly, incredibly frustrating when you know they are not true. However, can understand how someone editing, especially given they would probably have had no knowledge of your extensive medical research background, might edit you out, to avoid escalating a controversial debate they thought was not appropriate on a rugby site. All that aside, personally, I would be very interested to read your thoughts on COVID and immunology, and information vs misinformation on the subject – are they available in/on some other website location?

'Sh-t, this guy is nuts': Eddie Jones has a book out and of course it contains some absolute gold

Definitely lacking a winger coming in to add some power in the midfield ads an option / plan B. Havili a very talented player, but not as a power option in the midfield.

Dispelling the myth that the All Blacks struggle against the rush defence

Have to ask yourself, how many on that breakdown program are successful coaches.

Dispelling the myth that the All Blacks struggle against the rush defence

One area Wales did have depth – Priestland as back up to Biggar.
Priestland would not be out of place on a Lions tour.
Wales also ways seems to have had good backups in half back and first fives

Why it's not all doom and gloom for the Wallabies

Woops, I thought it was around the 40m line – was it the 60 m line ?

Why it's not all doom and gloom for the Wallabies

As usual, very good analysis and summation Nick. Traditionally both Wales and the Wallabies are weaker in terms of depth, and difficult to judge a performance when key players are out, but playing with 14 and then 13, the team appeared to have a good game plan and great resilience. I counted it as a win on Rennie’s score card, given the knock-down try effectively a 10 points freebie to Wales (7 point plus lost 3 points for penalty).

Why it's not all doom and gloom for the Wallabies

Interesting analysis of fall in All Black standards & tactics, and these observations caught my eye:

”While there were a lot of impressive skills in the passing drills, the amount of dropped ball resembled AFL at times. ” ”It seemed they were intent on building handling under pressure with what I felt were unnecessary offloads instead recycling and building phases.” ”not recognising that Perenara can’t pass at Test level anymore and is hamstringing Barrett and Mo’unga … the whole back line suffers, leaving players on the bench while making 240 odd tackles, playing a seven at eight against big packs, … increased amount of kicking … failure to counter the rush defence …”

Almost a repeat of the latter Chieka years where armchair experts (I don’t mean that in a derogatory way) can identify seemingly obvious issues, that the coaching staff gloss over to ‘play the Australian way’, only now its the AB coaching team doing a ‘play the AB way’. The high-tempo, high-skill, highly-mobile forwards, sometimes on minimum possession, successful in 2015, has been countered now on numerous occassions.

While results on this NH tour were poor, it could easily have been 3/4, & the Wallaby season overall appeared tracking upward, especially with 2 wins vs SA. Contrast the All Blacks seemingly locked into their 2015 formula no matter what, tracking downwards.

The All Blacks are fading to grey, but I fear nothing will change

Brave Harry – trying to predict the French is a bit like trying to predict Lotto numbers. When it comes off it is spectacular.

'You could see it in their sweaty eyes:' The 2023 Rugby World Cup preliminaries just began

Exactly Nicko, spot on.

WALLABIES TEAM: Beale starts at 15, Tupou AND Alaalatoa out, prop set for 'wild' debut

Yes, one positive with the unavailabilities is that Hoskins gets a chance.

WALLABIES TEAM: Beale starts at 15, Tupou AND Alaalatoa out, prop set for 'wild' debut

On a personal level, great for him to get the opportunity.

WALLABIES TEAM: Beale starts at 15, Tupou AND Alaalatoa out, prop set for 'wild' debut

The other Steyn (Morne) won the final Lions game for SA, plus felt he would have tipped the scales in other tight-finish games with his metronome boot, had he played.

'Brave, happy but plodding': Old guys rule rugby, and the Wallabies need better ones

Yeah Poite on Bismarck Du Plessis, back in 2013, I just went back to look at it. There was a head clash involved but it looked accidental. Later red carded for an elbow to Messam’s throat though, that deserved a red card; but the tackle looked legitimate.

You aren't imagining it... proof the Wallabies were hard done by

Interesting observations, Bent. Missing Hodge as our ‘kick-force-back’ man, as well as the more obvious attacking weapons in Kerevi, Koroibete, & Cooper. I think our best hope is (7 it may be wishful thinking) Eddie’s tendency towards singular focus, this time on SA and revenge for 2021.

'Playing smarter rugby': Why Wallabies have a good chance of breaking England drought

Good points, an article in itself.

'Playing smarter rugby': Why Wallabies have a good chance of breaking England drought

You could add Poite’s ‘no crash-tackling Dan Carter’ decision some years back. SA aggrieved there.

You aren't imagining it... proof the Wallabies were hard done by

Trouble now with any analysis you do, Nick, is you are open to be branded another Rassie, even though it is not a 62 minute video, & you don’t carry water on to the field for the team you feel was aggrieved.
I felt Alaalatoa’s movement had a slight deliberate ‘clip’ element in it – had he deliberately tryed to avoid the head, he could have instead had a slight outward-to-right movement of his hand. However, of course the only person who actually knows his intent or non-intent to clip is Alaalatoa himself – no one else can definitively say, only surmise. And at worst, its a pretty innocuous clip. Have not spoken to my Scottish cousins on it, but pretty sure they would take that decision & all others, as ‘home town advantage’, with a smile. Then remind me of RWC 2015 Wallabies vs Scotland (then onto 2012 & 2017 results etc. 😂 ).

You aren't imagining it... proof the Wallabies were hard done by

Pretty sure you are spot on with scrum penalties being guesses. Heaps of times I see penalties that I think are awarded to the wrong scrum, follow by penalties which very much like ‘even up the scrum penalties’ later. And props mastering the ‘I am innocent/wronged’ look.

Wallabies vs Scotland: Did I see what I needed to see?

My ancestry is half Scottish Muzzo, so its the one team I don’t mind losing to, especially in non-RWC games. England is another story 😊

REACTION: 'If they play like that against England they'll get a heap put on them'

Good points Jim. On the wing seems to be his best bet, providing punch on attack in the midfield as a roving winger like Koroibete. My option would have been to select Kuridrani, despite his poor Super form. Tends to lift for tests; even just as a big target for the opposition to view, has value, and of course heaps of defensive experience in NH tests.

ANALYSIS: Perese power can pack a punch, but only if he's picked in right position

Too much for my liking 😁 I have to take stick from my Scottish cousins now. I thought Scotland were there for the taking. But things like in the last stages, missing of touch from that penalty; those things are killers. Some positive signs though, with Leota’s (and Hooper’s) tries at least.

REACTION: 'If they play like that against England they'll get a heap put on them'

I guess karma for Scotland for the 2015 RWC. But in any away game with a massive home ground, I would expect one or two soft calls for the home team against the visitors, not ideal of course, but it happens.

REACTION: 'If they play like that against England they'll get a heap put on them'

A narrow loss to Scotland not the end of the world, and with just a bit more discipline and a bit of favour, could have been a narrow win. Perese showed penetration. Scotland a very strong side at home, and as mentioned, not that far off winning the 6 Nations.
May be able to ‘sneak up’ on England as underdogs, and hopefully, with England focused on SA and revenge for the 2019 RWC final.

REACTION: 'If they play like that against England they'll get a heap put on them'

‘Only those with deeply ingrained ignorance could criticise CRT’. So the CRT movement has no imperfections? Any proponent of any movement, that labels anyone who disagrees with aspects of their movement as having ‘deeply ingrained ignorance’, is an example of deeply ingrained ignorance / bigotry itself.
