Maybe this consideration for other people you speak of should include their family. I’m sure it wasnt easy to leave their mates and to feel like they let down everyone at the club. But get off your high horse, it’s a huge pay cut and Oz rugby is offering zero job security for the future, so it’s a least understandable that the money offered from overseas was too hard to pass up. You have no knowledge of their personal situation, so don’t be so quick to judge them.
Reds trio refuse to take pay cut, stood down by QRU
Everyone is so quick to pass judgement, I mean they haven’t had a chance to tell their side of the story yet. Life can be complicated and who knows what situation they are in, maybe they have morgages or maybe they simply can’t don’t want to be on less than $1500 a fortnight along with an uncertain future. With Australian rugby having no broadcast deal for next year, can you really blame them for looking elsewhere. I suggest that instead of just labeling them as greedy, you take a minute to understand that their time in rugby is limited, sometimes players will take the safer option.
Reds trio refuse to take pay cut, stood down by QRU
Not the only reason, but it certainly has made super rugby less appealing to most people.
A new path for Australian rugby
The way things are going around the world, the only option for this year or next year is to set up a domestic comp. This should be the end of Super rugby competition, and I for one would be glad to see it go. South Africa and Argentina travel and time differences, as well as a confusing conference system is the reason why viewers were tuning out, well before coronavirus. I think if they use their existing super rugby clubs plus the force, rebrand and structure the competition in simple domestic competition, they might survive. I don’t think we will see any international tests played this year so a domestic comp at the end of the year, needs to be there to ensure they don’t go bankrupt.
A new path for Australian rugby
World rugby will need to adapt to the changes. I think the only way forward for the short future at least, is every country doing their own domestic comps next year. Travel bans will be in place for a while, however domestic travel may ease in a few months if all goes well. Only option for rugby Australia is to have super rugby teams play a domestic comp, can’t see any other way. Not sure if there will be international tests this year and possibly some time next year, so it’s the only option in providing some sort of product.
The Wrap: Why rugby can’t rely on government intervention to save itself
Punching should always be a red, and the red card needs to be there to protect players. In saying that they need to stop giving them away so willy nilly. There needs to be something in the middle for unintentional things like marginal shoulder charges or high tackles, placed on report would work well for thsee situations.
How to fix another red card ruining rugby
I wonder how much they paid the geniuses that came up with this nonsense. I think it’s time we ditch rugby and start a new sport without all this bs
'Waist-high' tackles among new rugby laws to be trialled
The problem is more than just the national coach, while we have many great athletes in oz rugby, we lack the basic skills to capitalise on this. Game management and kicking skills are nowhere to be seen. We will never win anything if RA fail to recognise this clear handicap. They keep poaching players from league or pacific islands and expect them to win for us. Instead they need to invest in grassroots by preparing these kids with all fundamental skills needed to manage a rugby game. Castle and Clyne are too busy worrying about politics and haven’t a clue about the real issues. This isn’t going to be a quick fix, we need them gone immediately, only then can we begin the long road to fixing oz rugby’s problems.
The Wrap: Good coach, bad coach; the winning (and losing) of the World Cup
Chieka was passionate and a good man manager and motivater, but completely clueless about strategy. Chopping and changing the team every week this World Cup was dumb and reckless. It’s not entirely his fault though, it’s clear to me that the biggest problem in aus rugby is the lack of smart game management and a good kicking game. Instead of poaching league players or Pacific Islanders. How about we teach these skills at grassroots level and all the way up? We need a complete clean out of the RA board and ceo, they don’t have a clue about how to run the game in this country. If we ever want to be good again we need more than some random coach with a good record, we need a plan for the entire national rugby coaching system. It’s not going to be quick fix
What legacy does Michael Cheika leave, and what does his successor need to fix first?
They need to get those trainers off the field, I don’t understand why they allow it. They just sit in the back pocket calling plays and making decisions for the players, it’s should be seen as cheating but every team does it.
Roosters go back-to-back at 2019 NRL Grand Final
This kind of tackle happens a thousand times a game in NRL and nothing happens. These cards hardly make the game any safer, there’s a million possible situations where you can hurt yourself in a rugby game. People want to play it and watch it because it’s supposed to be a tough, exciting and sometimes dangerous sport.
England demolish Argentina after early red card
I’d be spewing if I paid hundreds of dollars for a rugby World Cup game, only to have it ruined in the first 20mins. These cards for minor high tackles are a joke, rugby needs to bring in “on report” like nrl.
England demolish Argentina after early red card
I’m no fan of Phil Kearns but honestly this is getting ridiculous. I’m so sick of these world rugby bureaucrats ruining the game with their over the top safety protocols. Imagine training your guts out for months and months, making the team in a World Cup and have it taken away for something like this. Id be furious if I was hodge. You watch, If this is worthy of a red card, every team is now gonna milk penalties like soccer players and there will be a whole lot of games of 14 v 15. RIP Rugby World Cup
More World Cup fan angst to come as farcical Hodge suspension sinks in
PC culture has reached a point where no one knows what’s right and wrong these days. “Oh we have to respect religious views” “No wait only some religious views”. Seriously, just get over it, it’s not a big deal if some guy tweets about his stupid beliefs. If Folau said homosexuals should not be allowed to play the game or something like that than yeah, that needs to be dealt with. But sacking a guy for this? Come on!
Tah-Tah, Izzy: Rugby Australia, NSW Rugby confirm they'll sack Folau
Hey, why don’t we go a step further and ban religion all together? Society is way too sensitive these days. Can’t people just accept that some people have different views to the norm and get on with life? I’m atheist and I’m not even slightly worried about going to hell.
Rugby union would be a more inclusive, kinder place without Israel Folau and his backwards views
Finally an article where you don’t blame hooper for loosing ????
Welcome back, Samu Kerevi
Give the anti hopper rants a rest David. I don’t understand why you need to bag him every chance you get. He’s not that bad is he?
Michael Cheika continues to ignore the obvious
The way I see it: The wallabies have been so fearful of loosing or disappointing people that it’s made them play like scared little boys. That second half was the first time this season they actually took chances and look what happened. Some of the mistakes looked horrendous but they scored about 40 points in a half. A turning point for the team I hope
Six talking points from Wallabies vs Argentina
I wonder how much these guys get paid to come up with this nonsense.
