Re-reading this, looking at the history of these men, the time they were involved with the game this feels like the same crew who knifed Castle.
The mention of the Foxtel deal was the one that really shone. Who lost out on that Kearns and Poideven and crew. They all lost cushy commentary jobs.
I wouldnt be surprised if you lifted the veil of SOARR you will find the same old crew sitting in the background.
I hope I am wrong but if they are and have used these legends of the game to push their agenda it shows even more why they shouldnt be let anywhere near it.

No. The NSW clubs have always believed they held the same status as the NSWRL clubs and they are the premier competition that other states should request and be allowed into the premier competition.
The NRL is an extension of the old Sydney Comp and anything national should be an extension of the NSW club comp.
How dare the usurpers set up a national comp and try and force us to comply.
Our competition is the strongest and anything national should be built arouned us.

I always get twitchy when I start reading about the people who know how to run rugby. It feels as though the clubs are trying to assert control again.
I agree with an independent board but it needs to be completely independent and not just one faction taking control from another faction.

I have been doing the research to write an article for a complete shake up of the system.
I just needed the numbers, most of which you have listed.
I believe we need PE. We dont go to market asking for money to sustain but for a new venture, da da dah, an NPC.
Its seed finance we need.
Think about it if the model is right. Players are paid in this order:
1. Their NRC club
2. Their state
3. Country
If a PE model was built around a 10 team licenced national team structure (we did it with NPC but it was destroyed by the NSW infighting) where Licenses are granted, teams are built and funded, then transitioned and sold based on the right gains, the PE firms earns some coin.
I hope that explains my thinking but its taking what you have said, hydrids from world sport and applying them here.
And to really throw the cat amongst the pigeons, if we had a NRC commisioner, Super Rugby Commissioner, every state equally represented and an equal nuimber of non-aligned business people on an RA board, imagine what would happen.
The ARU could focus on High Perfomance and driving it down to club level, wait they could even go to World Rugby and say enough of robbing talent you northern bastards lets set up a transfer market like the idiots who didnt realise you can be 130kg pick the ball up and run with it.

Foxtel is going broke. They are losing money and it is why they cut the deal with RA back then. They pushed for more product and wanted a whole lot less for it.
Half the reason Castle got knifed was she refused so accept the deal and was shopping Super Rugby around. Four of the captains signing that document were in the employ of Murdoch.
Murdoch is a dinosaur in a dying industry. He has cut his sports reporters in The Australian to 2 staff. The Courier Mail costs $2+. I prefer to collect my Aldi, Coles and Woolworths specials as I leave the store, at least I am not paying to read advertisements and their is more quality content with the recipe suggestions than the whole of the Courier Mail.
