Great article Josh. As a Dockers fan, I can’t disagree with much, if any of what you’ve written.

I would like to see us pursue Bryce Gibbs & Josh Jenkins. Gibbs give us an opportunity to push Mundy forward more, as well as adding to our ball winners around the centre and adds depth.

Jenkins offers forward depth and with Tabs/Hogan having some injury issues in recent seasons, provides us cover as well as potentially a second/third ruck option behind Lobbe & Darcy.

I like the Powell-Pepper trade and I think all 3 could come in cheap as they all seem like they are on the outer at their current clubs. P-P probably gets a 4 year deal, but the other two I think you could grab on a 2 year deal with a club/performance triggered 3rd for good money.

Kelly for me is a must. I think the Hill to St Kilda, Stevens to Geelong & Kelly to Fremantle, with some picks going back and forth is probably win/win/win for all3 clubs.

Peter Bell's hardball trades can make Fremantle a flag contender

I don’t think the Shield Final is the issue, it is the fact that Cricket Australia only really cares about the Boxing Day Test and the BBL.

Everything else just seems to be getting in the way. The One Day Series is stuffed into a one month window at the start of summer, then we play a little bit of Sheffield Shield while we wait for the BBL and then the season is basically over.

We need to go back to playing a Shield game and a one dayer over a 5-6 day period for the whole season. That would leave the availability of a Saturday afternoon or Sunday one day final followed by a Wednesday start for the Shield final.

The Sheffield Shield final should be played on a rotating basis between Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Adelaide & Canberra with heavy fines for venues that produce a venue where the 4th innings hasn’t begun by lunch day 5 (weather permitting).

Time to retire the Sheffield Shield final

I would let Massa finish up Brazil and put Kubica in the car for the final round.

Gives everyone a chance to see what he can do and if he can finish a weekend in the heat. For me it is a win/win for everyone. Massa finishes at home, Kubica gets to see if he can cut it in F1 anymore, Williams could get one of the best drivers on the grid for next year.

I can’t see any downsides to the above. If Kubica doesn’t cut it, then Di Resta can step straight in for next season.

While The Big (No) Show continues to be a Test player for Australia we will have issues.

There are problems up and down the line up and no real foreseeable fixes. Remember when the Sheffield Shield used to be the best domestic cricket league in the world? Seems it was also at a time that Australia had the best side in the world.

Seems now that the Australian summer is solely based around the Big Bash and while it probably brings in a large chunk of money, it has been to the detriment of both the Sheffield Shield and the One Day domestic fixtures.

Once CA gets there heads out of the sand, go and speak to the state associations and take the Sheffield Shield back to what it was, you will find the Test side, the One Day side and the T20 side will all improve. Our pitches aren’t good enough, older players are too quickly disposed of and their is far to big a focus on 20/20 cricket.

Australia vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Five talking points from Australia's loss

I’m not a League or Union fan, but more of a very casual observer and it has always surprised me how much Union teams relay on a good kicker, yet in League it seems like it is after thought. So often the kicking team ends up with poor field position (especially after penalties) or miss what should be easy kicks at goal.

Would be interesting to see one of Unions good kickers come and play as a kicker in League. I think it start a bit of a revolution. Imagine a 90% goal kicker, who can kick 40/20’s regularly and can gain good field position consistently.

I may be totally off and no doubt I’ll be corrected on what I call the game, but it’s something even my NZ friends can’t explain.

They have tried that a couple of times, with the GC Indy Car and around the Melbourne F1.

All we got were shortened non championship rounds as they were. Itching more than a support race.

Any fully fledged Motorsport category needs to be able to stand on its own two feet, but outside the US, Supercars has zero relevance. I mean of the 5 makes that have run in the past 3 years, by the end of this year only the Mercedes will offer a variety of what they were running.

Do the Supercars need more overseas races?

It will be interesting to see where the series heads in the next few years. With car obviously getting smaller, the old “V8” formula is obviously becoming less and less relevant.

Could we run a series based around 6 cylinders? Is there a big market left for turbo 6’s anymore? Or do we slowly (or possibly quickly) elvolve into something like the British Touring Car Championship?

It would be interesting to hear from manufacturers where they would like to spend their money. Obviously Volvo, Ford and Mercedes don’t believe the Supercars format is worthy of the money. It doesn’t leave too many interest parties.

The BTCC has managed to capture the interest of Subaru, MG, Honda, BMW, Vauxhall (Holden), Ford, Audi, VW, Mercedes, Chevrolet (Holden) & Toyota.

It’s certainly an interesting future for the Supercars brand.

Well said Tim. If you had of asked me which players I thought had done their dash at the Dockers, all those names would have been front and centre.

I don’t think losing those listed above (and you could throw Dawson into that list) will negatively affect the Dockers next year. De Boer, Mezungu, Pearce & Morrabito have all been overtaken by Blakely and co this year. Silvagni is now behind both Alex Pearce & Collins while Clancee is just finished while Clarke & Mayne have failed to kick on.

While I am a big fan of Ballas, he hasn’t done much for 2 years now and at 29 he needs to be kicking 25 a year as a minimum or sending large chunks through the midfield, neither of which are happening.

With B. Hill, Lobbe, McCarthy, Cloke, Vickery & Hurley available this trade period, I have no problems with a mass clean out at Dockerland.

Are the Dockers about to detonate?
