The Broncos may make a profit as a club regardless of the on-field results, but they would make far more if they were as successful as the Storm (over the last 15 years) or Panthers (over the last 3 seasons). No organisation wants to be mediocre.

Broncos 2023 Outlook: Missing finals not an option for desperate Kevvie hoping for a Red Hill resurgence

Firing Bennett & replacing him with Seibold as part of the board.

I would argue that Capewell, Riki, Palasia & Robati are much better than ‘meh’.

As a Broncos fan I haven’t liked many of their most recent jerseys – the 2023 home jersey in particular is just horrible IMO.
The NRL should have design rules for team jerseys. The NFL could give us a few pointers. I realise that the NRL ones are never going to be as clean as those in the NFL – we need as many sponsor logos as will fit while they don’t, but still the NRL jerseys can be designed better than they currently are.

Race to the bottom: The NRL wooden spoon contenders

After daylight there’s more daylight, followed by daylight and then the Cowboys (wearing very strong sunglasses)… 😛

Re Haas, I hope it is his new money grubbing management that’s the issue.

Re Turbo, I think it’s a bit premature to question whether he should be taking a pay cut. His current injury isn’t a chronic injury resurfacing ala his hamstring problems. His shoulder injury was just one of those unfortunate accidents and happened because Turbo was trying his guts out stoping a try. The fact that he reportedly apologised to his teammates after the game for letting them down by getting injured speaks volumes.

The Payne in the Haas dilemma burning both Brisbane and Manly

I agree the booing should stop, perhaps silence as the next step and then applause, but no cheering. But he’s not a ‘kid’, he’s a 22 year old grown ass man.

'It rattled me a little bit': Haas booed, three binned and a comeback for the ages as Broncos run continues

If anyone at the Titans should be on $1.2 million a season it’s Tino, not Fifita.

'It rattled me a little bit': Haas booed, three binned and a comeback for the ages as Broncos run continues

Haas better get used to it while he continues with his current tantrum.

Haas is a very good player, arguably the best prop in the right now. But at the end of the day he’s still just a prop and no prop is worth $1 million a season under the current salary cap. Haas can help win games by the way he plays, but no prop (not even Haas) is going to consistently win games on individual performances – that’s what ‘spine’ players do, see Reynolds’ recent performances against Manly and Souths.
To me Haas is getting paid the absolute upper limit for god-tier props this season and will be getting paid overs in 2023 & 2024.
Haas and his management can’t be allowed to get away with this tantrum – and that’s the most app word to describe it as Haas is acting like a petulant child. The Broncos must stand firm and refuse the release. If Haas continues to play up to his usual standard he can be picked for the NRL team. But if he starts underperforming without reasonable excuse, such as a proven medical injury, then he should be dropped to reserve grade and the Broncos should then withhold a large part of his exorbitant salary for not fulfilling his part of his signed contract. If Haas then takes legal action against the Broncos he better be prepared to use up a good chunk of his salary on very expensive lawyers. The Broncos are one of the richest (if not the richest) clubs in the NRL with the money to take a player on in court and fight to the bitter end after a couple of years.

Broncos' latest offer should've been enough for Haas

Even as a Brisbane fan I’d swap the Friday games around – the fact that Penrith (1st) is playing the Cowboys (3rd) in the early game is just plain wrong. I guess Ch.9 was still on the ‘Cowboys won’t win a match’ bandwagon when they chose the Broncos v Titans fixture instead.

NRL Round 11 talking points - It’s evolution, baby

The Bulldogs don’t generally seem to lack effort, it’s arguably a lack of talent and experience in their spine which is their problem. This is because that results in a lack of team direction in games.

Has your NRL club's season already gone to the dogs? Call me delusional, but...

They were thinking that it’s only games against the Tigers and Broncos, TTurbo can use them as warm up games before we play the serious contenders in the Eels and Storm.

Brisbane are back: Reynolds inspires Manly mauling as Broncos underline finals credentials

My initial reaction was I’ll admit that sending the player off was over the top. But I think that was mostly due to my dislike of players being sent off without teams being able to replace them after a certain period thus ensuring that a game remains a fairly even contest. Manly showed real character as a team to remain in the game for as long as they did. However, in the cold light of day my view changed. Although the player wasn’t injured last night, that was more due to luck than anything else. It was a spear tackle and they can result in a player ending up in a wheelchair or a coffin. I wonder if Gus thinks a player being taken off in a body bag is ‘good product’…

'The tackle we want to stamp out' or 'extraordinary' decision: Pundits give polar opposite views on Lawton tackle

I don’t think Morley was deliberately trying to injure players or had been instructed to do so, he either didn’t care or was unwilling to change his tackling technique. But he was continually suspended and there wasn’t a sudden outbreak of copycat players all taking players heads off.

'Ugly, stupid, as cheap as it gets': Barnett referred straight to judiciary after send off, Panthers roll Knights

Agreed, the Pakistan fans have shown real class. I think the majority of Aussie fans would do likewise, but there would be that seemingly inevitable small minority of d-heads who would act like, well d-heads. Re the tabloid media, there’s a reason they’re known as the gutter press.

Pakistan fans show amazing grace in embracing Khawaja as he tears their team apart

If I’m naïve, then you guys are overly cynical. Union has a system where a sent off player is replaced after a set time. That system hasn’t led to dramatic increase in foul play for that code. So why would it happen in League?

'Ugly, stupid, as cheap as it gets': Barnett referred straight to judiciary after send off, Panthers roll Knights

They are playing 1 man down, just not on the field.

Given how long the season is and how long a player would be suspended for deliberately (or even recklessly) taking out a player, teams would quickly run out of players.

There is something called a salary cap – however rubbery that might be.

'Ugly, stupid, as cheap as it gets': Barnett referred straight to judiciary after send off, Panthers roll Knights

Correct, I’m not that old. But as I said above this isn’t the 70s or 80s anymore. You can’t honestly believe that if this 1 rule were to be changed we’d suddenly find ourselves transported back to that era of thuggery?

'Ugly, stupid, as cheap as it gets': Barnett referred straight to judiciary after send off, Panthers roll Knights

While I acknowledge that coaches do everything in their power to bend the rules to their absolute limit without breaking them, but having what would essentially be a ‘hit man’ player in your side to deliberately injure/ main 1 opposition player, even for a grand final, is just fantasy land. This isn’t the 70s or 80s anymore. The top teams are too evenly matched, particularly those that make a grand final, to ever consider playing 1 man short for such an important game.

Terry Lamb retired in 1996, a little over 25 years ago – he played in a very different era.

'Ugly, stupid, as cheap as it gets': Barnett referred straight to judiciary after send off, Panthers roll Knights

Do you honestly believe that any team in this day and age is going to pick a reserve grade nobody, thereby using up 1 of their 17 players, with the express intention of having that player deliberately injure the opposition’s star player?

'Ugly, stupid, as cheap as it gets': Barnett referred straight to judiciary after send off, Panthers roll Knights

Barnett undoubtedly should have been sent off, but it essentially ruined the contest after that. Newcastle were gallant, but it would have been a miracle if they had managed to win with one player down.

If a player gets sent off for foul play, their team shouldn’t be punished by having to play the rest of the game outnumbered. The sent off player should be able to be replaced so that the numbers on the field are even. Being one player short for the rest of the game is punishment enough.
