Quality summary Ryan. North believed they were in premiership contention so they added those players. Was certainly a bold move, but you need to make some big decisions to try and get that flag. Obviously it won’t pay off for them and now it’s time to move on/ retire some of the older players. I would retire Firrito, Petrie, Ray, Nahas, Waite and try to trade players such as Hansen & Black. This way it will give the opportunity for players like Ben Mckay, Majak Daw as key forwards, then throw in someone like Ed Vickers-Willis to replace Firrito. There is still a lot of unseen talent on that list that can certainly filter through next season and I still believe they could push for top 8, if they got the right mix of youth with older talent playing together. On a side note, I think next season is time for Andrew Swallow to hand over the captaincy to Jack Ziebell.
North Melbourne's end game is upon us
Plain and simple, how can an international side carry players like Burns, M Marsh and Nevill in regards to batting? I sure as hell can’t say that I could rely on these three to make 100s for us. It was time for Burns to get dropped and sure as hell time for M Marsh to go. Leave Nevill as he is probably the best keeper in Australia. But it’s time to get a player like Handscomb in. Don’t forget that he can keep too! This could free up another batting space! Bancroft, yes, could be a potential opener, but where has the old school opener gone? The one who can bat for long periods of time and grind out 100s? I see that person being Travis Dean. Maybe it’s too early to blood someone like him, maybe he needs a 1000+ run sheffield season to get that spot, but he is one that will grind out a tough innings. Shaun Marsh has had enough chances. He comes in for a career defining test and makes his 100. Well done. But give him continuity and the man fails! Khawaja needs to stay in that side. I believe our top 6 should be: Warner, Bancroft / Dean, Khawaja, Smith, Voges, Handscomb.
