There is unequivocally no doubt that super rugby needs to change format. As far as the competition goes south Africa have had a dominant financial position for a long time and over this period the game has slowly died. I believe this is mainly due to a lack of true competition (Crusaders, Lions recent dominance) and many terrible decisions (axing sun wolves). The best option now would be to take the best from our side of the world including New Zealand, Japan and pacific Islands. In this format a draft could be set up so that each team has a proportion of nationalities. This could mean that we have kiwis playing in Oz, Ozzie’s playing in Japan etc. This would better create even teams with anyone having the chance to become champions. It is the hope that will drive fans to watch the games. Then come international rugby people will long to see their stars come together and take on other nations. It will be completely fresh as so many players will be shifting from other countries. It will create a premier league/internationals situation which has shown to be incredibly successful.

What really is News Corp's rugby end game?

Phillips has been the form lock. He was coming into form at the end of last season and has just built on it

The raw and the cooked: Canberra candidates at number 6

I think without looking at the stats LSL has been much more effective and his defensive game has also significantly improved at lock (maybe as he doesn’t need to run larerally as often).

Cusack is a definite journey man. I think Miller is a much better option, even from the few games he’s played for the Brumbies

Not speight?

He is now 33. I think his time has now been and gone 🙁

The Wrap: Rugby shuts down… am I ever going to see your face again?

For those that are questioning whether they will cancel their Kayo subscription – I implore you to write that Rugby union is the reason that you are cancelling your subscription. Make sure that Foxtel knows that Rugby union is your reason for using the platform. This is the only way we can keep union on tv and hopefully so it doesn’t collapse!

The Wrap: Rugby shuts down… am I ever going to see your face again?

I honestly felt like sending Speight a letter to highlight how unjust his non selection for the WC was. He is a seriously good player.

Yep 100% agree with Hegarty at fullback for goal kicking. Campbell is less of a risk defensively on the wing and can manoeuvre to fullback when required for returning kicks.

I am a big Hunt fan, but he has hugely dropped off this season. He hasn’t run and hit players as hard as previously. I think his time may be up in Oz and that’s the harsh reality of sport.

Ramm has a SERIOUS boot on him. Doesn’t look like much – nek minut he’s kicking 70m

Super Rugby on hold: Early-season report card

I think Cheslin Kolbe is the best example of this. How many others would have scored that final try of the world cup?

Super Rugby on hold: Early-season report card

He has more breakdown turnovers than anyone else in Australia…. Kind of important af no 7

Just when the Reds win brilliantly, Super Rugby is suspended...

Vision? Toomua can only see the runner next to him. How often has he thrown a cut out pass in his entire career?

Half a dozen rounds in, here are six Super Rugby takeaways for Dave Rennie and the Wallabies

Otherwise looks good

Neville hasn’t shown anything special this season. I would pair LSL and Phillip as locks and have Samu or Wright at 6.

Anecdotally I have seen Powell at the base of the ruck just waiting in his last couple of starts. Lonergan has jumped on and thrown the passes straight away. I agree Powell typically has been quick but not recently

I wonder if the selection panel is going to make more informed decisions that previously. It would be nice to see two specialist wingers for a change

Decent team but I wouldn’t have Powell. He has been shown up by Lonergan and we need a decent kicker in the side, I would also take McDermott over Powell as Powells distribution is very slow.

10 Toomua or JOC.
12. Simone or Meakes
14. Banks
15. DHP

Powell shouldn’t be no1 IMO. Since he has been on the super rugby map a lot of his passing is slow from the ruck. Lonergan did a terrific job on his first start and really got the troops going. He also has great defens and a decent kick. I’m happy for Powell to sit on the sidelines for afew weeks until he sharpens up

The Wrap: Super Rugby splits into two

I still think it’s funny that NRL haven’t followed the same path, in terms of head protection. I can see in 10-20 years CTE could potentially destroy NRL if they don’t change something soon. You all would have seen what Alex Mckinnon did to the sport, this will have 10x the effect

The Wrap: Super Rugby splits into two

Terrible news. Shoulder injury?

The Wrap: Super Rugby splits into two

Did you see how badly the ball was firing off his boot? As soon as he was taken off kicking duties the commentators (Justin Marshall) picked up on how much better the flight off the ball was off the tee. That is not something that should need to be taught at this level. Minor changes to positioning and leg drive but not when the goal kicker is kicking bananas

Yeh Lucas had a poor showing. It was as if he was so unsure of himself he changed his mind 4x before eventually getting into contact. The defenses were not falling for it and he needed to be more single minded about his play. It may have been due to his lack of playing time because he started the season in better form

The Wrap: Super Rugby splits into two

Put hegarty at fullback and move Jock to a wing. Drop CFS
