hand on heart not the other thing…. if we are as poor as what you say then the 180 nations ranked below us where most have Football as their number one sport must have terrible national coaches and terrible standards….
SBS did a lot for Football in Australia, but they always had as a theme we are not as good as Europe, its created a major issue in Australia, where the A-L is a reasonable standard and hardly ever gets the credit it deserves….
Australia Football in Australia, lacks respect from Football fans, and even if we win, we look to why the winning is not a great achievement, the other side was weak, the sun was in their eyes, the ball was too heavy.
APL, wrongly and foolish spent a fortune on Keepup, something everyone said they wanted, but so few used it,
This is even further added to, when we play in Asia were most teams from the Middle East are suppose to be easybeats as are all nations outside Japan & South Korea ….
As an aside take hhhmmmm lets say, Germany, Croatia, Holland, France, England, how many players the size of five foot nothing Nisbet have they picked.
For all the sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, of Australian Football, and all the issues we know of…. its still a beautiful game, and its played at a decent level….
The biggest thing holding back Football in Australia, IMO is the lack of respect for the local game by Football fans….. who can then blame the MSM if even the diehards bag it out.
Again I am not calling for nanny reactions, but its hard to get people outside Football interested if its continuous bagging
Get off the Socceroos' backs! One training session, a win against Lebanon and still people fail to understand Asian football
I am sorta with stew & Gem on this one…..
I understand Arnold is not the worlds best….. but how many players do we have playing in the top six leagues in Europe or the top three leagues in the America’s….
In Arnolds favour is he has knowledge of Australian Football issues that is arguably unequalled… further he has the confidence of the playing group …. beyond that he is excellent with and respected by media outlets….
Against this his technical ability… and willingness to change system is poor if measured against the worlds best.
The bigger question is what Stew raised is we are not respecting the rapid growth and improvement across Asia….

Nisbet has not signed with anyone for next season if anything looking to move overseas…
Wanderers rebound after week from hell, Nix outlast Sky Blues' press, Nisbet called up
Hi Guys
Totally off topic…. sorry… very sorry to change the topic
But every now and then someone gets picked for a national team and its somehow special, and needs to be shared…. even across codes…
Got one for you, and as Football gets little media, I am sharing it on the Rugby site as you guys understand what its like to get selected for your country.
The smallest player ever to play in the A-League, and maybe the smallest player ever to play for Australia has been selected as a replacement for a player injured.
Worth keeping an eye on, when everyone told him he had no hope he was way to small… to play.
His name is Josh Nisbet …. loved this quote when asked how it felt after so many coaches rejected him….. BTW he is a midfield player and Australia has heaps of midfield players to choose from…. anyway he said….. PS note he is tiny often older ball boys are bigger…
Asked what he would say to younger players who found themselves unwanted and out of favour, Nisbet replied: “Have fun, back yourself and no matter who you are, there’ll be people who aren’t on your side.
“As long as the people you care about are with you, and you back yourself, then anything is possible.”

Good luck to the Nux, they play a very defensive style, but they are winning…. but like many have said winning with style is better…
IMO they have the best keeper in the league he has won them a lot of games….
I like the coach, he seems quite astute…. as do a number of our coaches now.
Giancarlo Italiano's rise is the best story in the A-League

AFC Cup interzonal semis preview: Is the comeback on, or will the Mariners coast through the second leg?
Waz
The truest statement you have ever made… and I have been banging on for years we need to lift crowds to 15K…
I know this is an old record for me…
BUT
The MLS is arguably the league that has grown the most over the last 10 to 15 years…. This was done on a very poor broadcast deal, but essentially it was their crowds kept them afloat… most season over 20K average per match….
Tis about tiem APL made crowds not broadcasters there key focus
A-League report card: Frustrated fans, crap scheduling, Socceroo mystery men and wasted money, but the brand is strong
Think we will win on Thursday

Victory bounce back in Original Rivalry, Mariners nab top spot, can Rudan turn it around?

A simple test can be done to support your case, take all the A-L teams from the start, and list the number of players who became Socceroos and break them into 3 groups,
Group 1, Started in A-L teams academy to first team to Socceroo
Group 2, Started in an A-L team as their contract to Socceroo
Group 3, Started in another team for a short while, moved to a new team and played their for quite a while to Socceroo… say like Rowles, joined the Mariners after a Roar i year contract were he saw little game time.
My guess would be
1] Mariners
2] Brisbane
3} Adelaide
4} Mel City
Does the A-League do enough to nurture creative players?
AA & Mike & Others
Interesting take on Australian, from a guy in the US talking about the MLS, and it could apply in Australia…… love how he expressed it…. its not word for word but as best I can remember…
To me Football in the US has not learnt to feel and play, to explain its like we know all the notes and all the keys to play the notes in…. we just don’t know how to turn the notes into a song… and as we try and learn tow to sing and play a tune… better musicians mock us for our inexperience, and those not interested in our songs attempt to stop us learning our songs and belittle our music.
However as time goes by we are slowly learning how to construct songs, and how to feel the notes and vary the keys into our tunes…. there used to be only four big bands we made up the fifth some time ago but the other four won’t admit it, that we are now the fourth biggest band and closing in on the third is still neither accepted nor recognised by the other bands.
We must keep practicing our music and learn the deep down meaning that better musicians in our field know and play deep within their souls. In time if we get better people will come to hear us play.
Does the A-League do enough to nurture creative players?
tanks I assume on 10 play
Violence is not 'passion': Wanderers fans chuck a wobbly again... why is it always them?
Off topic
My guess this is going to take some time to appear.

Violence is not 'passion': Wanderers fans chuck a wobbly again... why is it always them?
Gotta agree with the article, I think their support is more for what they represent and how they achieved it more than Football.
Have the Matildas eclipsed the Socceroos? Whatever you think, Australian football fans are in for some exciting times
My tho’s on Twiggy if it all falls over.
I think he will walk away, as the management Australia wide has been poor.
Both Basketball n Football are planning expansion teams with the NRL talking about adding 3 teams.
I can see him looking to a more stable competition
Rebels set to sue Rugby Australia as civil war erupts, Rugby Victoria President barred from summit

On this issue, maybe its time we listened to what the RBB are saying…. there are two sides to this and if the club and APL had any sense they would be calling in the RBB for a chat… my understanding is they had permission to hang the banner…. then an issue arose out of returning to their seats….
The police to will have their view, but hand on heart, of all the fans that come to the Coast WSW fans are close to if not the best behaved and they always have heaps of police present
Violence is not 'passion': Wanderers fans chuck a wobbly again... why is it always them?
was thinking the same today
How do A-League fans convince police that passion is not a crime?
Wondering aloud if at seasons end an a-league squad be assembled and play matches against say NZ, Singapore, Fiji.
Would help keep them match fit, add some revenue, but most all showcase their skills for selectors
