I have to admit, I’m a bit bemused by speculation about Ed Cowan’s place in the Australian test team. Throughout his second series, the…

Hard to tell, the ground looked a lot smaller than, say, the MCG.

Not yet. I do follow ‘football’ football, and I went to a Bundesliga match a couple of months ago, while based in Germany. Realy enjoyed it.
I’ve only really been in England two weeks, but I will get myself sorted to get to some matches. My plan is to do a match of each professional tier, including getting up north to watch my team, Leeds, at home.

Cheers. It was as a good, slightly surreal, afternoon.

I was alright with the Lloyd comments, because he was actually analysing the situation. He’s a bloke who kicked almost 1000 goals as a forward, looking at how GWS set up their forward line in the future. No such facts of insight in Sydney.
Agreed on Hunt. He’s certainly not an A-Grader, but at least the commentators have stopped being surprised when he gets a kick. He’s a ‘Gold Coast midfielder’, generally, rather than ‘Rugby League convert’.
Anyone else bored with the Folau follies?
I saw a brief mention of Matthew Johns’ comments on Fox Sports News, but didn’t know the full story so I didn’t mention it. Going from what Steve has said a bit later, sounds like they’re just throwing anything and everything they hear out into the open, pretending to be journalists.

I don’t think numbers were the major factor in Hughes’ demise.
It was more that he was really struggling, as you say, with that ball outside off-stump. Bowlers knew it and he was in strife, look at the job Chris Martin did on him. On a good day, he was great, but he needs to sort it out. Hopefully he can.
But I do think it’s too early to judge Cowan on numbers. He was good in the series against India (probably would’ve almost averaged 40) and none of the Australian top order had a good tour of the Windies. As such, the average isn’t looking too flash, but I don’t see it as a major problem.
There's a good case for Cowan

I’m based in Milton Keynes, 30-odd miles north of London, integrating myself with the locals. I was down in London on the weekend, catching up with a mate I met while traveling, who happens to be Australian. I’ve done the usual London things, footy was on, so I got along.
I haven’t spent enough time with Australians in London to make a comment on that front, but I ran into a lot of Australians on the continent. Other than one instance of a (completely separate) group chanting ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie’ inside a bar in Prague, I didn’t encounter anything cringeworthy. We’re not all all giving Australia a bad name abroad …
