The thing about the Gold Coast is that it is so close to Brisbane, they really should be targeting people from both areas.

In 2001, Fremantle were in a very similar situation both on and off the field. Yes, their market was easier to grow into, and fans easier to attract, but that did not stop them from coming very close to folding. The main difference is that the AFL was quite reluctant to have Fremantle join the competition- already knocking them back once, whereas they really want Gold Coast to succeed.

The weather is too out of sync for NT to have a side. They could only play home night matches which wouldn’t be great for TV. But them having a side would be great.

Freo were given a lot of shit during the trade due to them low balling Melbourne and delaying the transaction to do their due diligence…. I’d say they went through it all. But it will prove a good move freo, I think.

They were very happy to send Fremantle to play a final at the cattery in 2013. It should be up to the home team to dictate where they play their home games. Also, on the cigar shaped field- it’s the same shape and size as Subiaco Oval was, and only holds 5000 fewer people, and no one complained about that (except the pundits who had to go to the ground). So yeah, there’s definitely a double standard.
