My point is that its not just rugby league that is growing in FIJI and many other sports are growing as well. Touch rugby is the fastest growing sport in all three islands.

Freddy and Joey: The NRL’s Pacific solution

So you think everyone cares because the Warriors will get a crowd of over 20,000 in Wellington against the Bulldogs this year or in Christchurch where 22,000 fans wtach a NRL game in heavy snow and rain never seen on this earth before….
Over 10,000 fans watch a rugby union test match in PNG but I don’t think rugby union is popular over there.

Folau's move to rugby highlights NRL failings

Many sports are growing in Fiji, Samoa and Tonga and for sometimes its not just rugby league and AFL. There are more Fijians in high schools rugby skolarship in NZ alone than there are Fijians on professional rugby league contracts. The opportunity for rugby union kids is massive compared to any other sports for this Pacific Island kids. The biggest exports in Samoa, Tonga and Fiji are the rugby players and the money they sent back home from overseas contracts helps the economy.

Freddy and Joey: The NRL’s Pacific solution

Your right about the standing over tactics by Genia. I don’t know why many halfbacks after two great years of delivering the ball under pressure all of a sudden they stand over dictating play from behind a ruck or maul as if they were the chosen one. Kahn Fotualii did the same for Samoa in last years world cup and many more are did the same when they should just do their job and pass the ball. I ike that Japanese number 9 he was such a great player who made the ball available in every chance.

Has Quade Cooper made the right call for the right reasons?

For your information this thread degenerate after the third comments when the nz all blacks was mention.

Beware the defending champs: rugby league World Cup preview

So you disputing the RWC accumulative tv ratings yet you don’t dispute when other RL members on here bring in false figures or statements regarding rugby league & rugby. You mention that in over 100 years rugby union is only big in a dozen or so countries yet you hail the growth of your sport around the world and. I didn’t know rugby union set a goal 100 years ago to overtake football, American football, GAA, sumo, buzkashi or any other national sports out there. Over 100 years only a handful of countries were playing the sport now its more than 120 countries. Its that BIG in your eyes or not?

Rugby league is just a game like many other games it has its ups and downs but it will soldier on. Fans of sports are a different kinds, when it all goes well everything is fine but if its not they turn a blind eye makes excuses and pretend its allright.

The Highlanders were the first franchise to sign a Japanese player.

First Folau, Waratahs then his manager and now its the ARU fault all because some RL journos said so. Folau will be in Southern France having a bottle of wine if those journos were to be trusted.

This article today in the couriermail will sums up all membership of all professional football clubs in Queensland. Notice the only clubs giving out any free tickets as part of the membership deals are the Lions and Titans, The Broncos also counts our four-legged friends as membership as well.

NRL fans must embrace membership culture

I have a QLD Reds membership and there are no free kids membership. You paid for a family membership and the kids will get a special card that allow’s them to go to all home games for free.
At one stage the Reds had the biggest sponsorship deal in QLD out of the football codes awhile back with QLD Rails. I’m also a member of the Broncos league club along with my family and six months ago I signed up 10 members of my family who were here on holiday just so we can have cheap dinner and some drinks because its not far from our house and its usually the case for all rugby league clubs here with pokie machines and food.

Robinson was a good player but certainly didn’t played enough games to be consider a great of the game.

Manu Tuilagi is the only player killing it in English rugby.

You forgot Ryan McGoldrick, Nathan Blacklock, Clinton Toopi, Micheal Witt, Karl Pryce, Smith and many many more .

The English rugby league team are very unpredictable and if the right team turn up on the day I agree they will be hard for the Kiwis to beat but if they don’t turn up they can be very embarrass at times and I think Samoa, Tonga and Fiji can bounce on that if they ended up playing them.

There was some uproar from some section of Fijian rugby and supporters that Domoni wasn’t the best option and there were well qualified coaches in the running as well. He was chosen to coach Fiji well he was coaching some club in the Perth competition and might not have had a level three coaching cert at that stage. The way they got rid of former Wallabies Ili Tabua was disgraceful and the beginning of their downfall.

Fijian rugby no more after horrible 2012

Those previous Kiwi tours to the UK were mainly made of who was left after all the most of the top players pull out. The world cup will see the Kiwis and Kangaroos in full strengths and will be very hard to beat. The English performances were great against semi professional teams like Wales and a strong French side but the SH teams will be another story.

Where does it said those are membership tickets? And kids under the age of 3 have to sit on their parents laps so again its not a membership.

Fiji is having one of those bad days, Samoa and Tonga have been there before. As usual Fiji will bounce back ones they get their acts together while the other two countries will struggle at some stage. We have seen this many times. The current Fijian rugby problems comes from bad decision making when selecting coaches, players, CEO and other key appointments. Letting the military into having some saying and the decision to ban the historic cipi war dance because of the coaches religion background have also had an affect.

Fijian rugby no more after horrible 2012

Its already been done. There’s a Pacific Island based director who oversees every developments in the Pacific islands who reports back to his pay master (IRB) who then makes a decision on funding. Samoa was guilty of mis managements of funds a couple of years ago so were penalize and Tonga and Fiji got twice as much funds than Samoa. When Samoa got its house in order and the other two (Samoa, Fiji) were found guilty the IRB gave them the green light and the funds from the RWC to built a high performance unit, lands, gym, pool.

Those SOO games are shown on pay tv and some even need to have a sattelite put up in most countries. Your be lucky to have it on free to air tv in more than three countries.
Dunedin host more professional rugby union games from ITM cup, Highlanders super rugby and All Blacks test matches every year than most cities and towns outside of Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne in Australia or NZ with rugby league.
Looking forward to watching NRL games in Darwin, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Adelaide, Coffs Harbour and Hobart.

I remember back when some all blacks switch to rugby league in the 80’s and I remember the first question the league bloke who was writing for the NZ herald asked when they came back to visit families and friends. Which code is harder? Which code hits the most, Which this and that? I can still see some articles in some rugby league sections of the Brisbane and Sydney papers asking the same thing when Sailor, Tahu, Rogers, Gasnier, Thorn and Chambers return to rugby league from rugby. This is why in most RL forums the two question you get straight after a game whether its club or an international game is “Whats the crowd?” or What’s the TV ratings?”. This is so they can compare it to rugby union and lately AFL.

Why are we so angry at Izzy and the code jumpers?

The pacific islands don’t need to pay their players central contracts. Their professional clubs in NZ, Australia, Japan and in Europe do that for them. They only paid their sevens players because they are all locals and nothing wrong with that arrangements. They get money from fans, sponsors, business, governments and donations from all over the world to help for their tours, allowence. payments and world cup preparations.

Fijian rugby no more after horrible 2012

Its the victim mentality that rugby league picked up around the 1980’s to this day. No matter how rich, fancy and how great their professional competition was in Australia/Northern England in those days or that they think rugby league is the greatest game of all rugby union just seem to tick all the right box. It was an amateur game at club level watch by a man and his dog in some places and huge crowds in others but there was something special when international matches is played. Crowds will flock to see the all blacks, five nations, springbok & lions tours and bledisloe cup back into those days. International test matches was the secret and rugby league didn’t have any idea so they stick with their professional clubs and those professional clubs held back their sport. That is why we have many on here and other places try to blame rugby union, armed forces, Universities, Vichy and anything they can come up with because they have been beaten by rugby union world wide.
Two things hit them hard in the late 80’s and mid 90’s, first was the introduction of the rugby world cup in 1987 and second was when the game went professional in 1996. Having already had a strong present at international level for over 100 years it was just a matter of time before the grassroots (clubs, province) catch up with the professional rugby league clubs. It didn’t take long and the rest as they say is history.
That is the reason why rugby league fans, journos, administration former players such as Gordon Tallis, Mark Geyer Laurie Daley always go nuts whenever rugby union is mention or someone from their sport switch to rugby union.

Why are we so angry at Izzy and the code jumpers?

Easy Tiger, No one suggest that Toowoomba is a rugby union town. Do you have a problem with the QUEENSLAND REDS taking games to other QUEENSLAND towns? There is also a club rugby and schools comp in in the town. Toowoomba Grammar compete in the GPS schools rugby.
Many sports are shown in more than 120 countries. American football and AFL are also shown all over the world and so does handball, underwater hockey and gaelic football.
