He’s more than half a good shield season, he scored 3 100s in the second half of last season and was named in team of the season.

Are selectors prepared to go with their double standards?

I don’t think Finch can be picked given his current form, I’m still interested to see if Zampa can lock down his spot, he took 2 wickets in 51 overs during the 6 games he played in 2018 and went wicketless in the one game he played in January (although he was very economical.

I rate Fawad as the best wicket taker, but he’s a rubbish fielder, the other options would be Green, Lyon, O’Keefe, Boyce and Agar.

If I were picking the World Cup squad now I’d go:

Wade (wk)
Maxwell (c)

Wade and Short seem to have good chemistry and enjoy opening the batting together, while Stoinis could be should bat 3, Marsh and Smith are no brainers at 4&5 while having Warner, Maxwell and Christian at 6, 7 & 8 could be quite destructive.

Australia need a bowling all-rounder in ODIs

I see you’re point Ronan but given that we’ll be going into the World Cup with Maxwell, Stoinis and potentially Short in the top 7, you could probably afford to play Christian at 8.

Australia need a bowling all-rounder in ODIs

It might be left of field but I think Dan Christian might be a decent option at 8, he’s got plenty of experience playing in England.

Look at Vukovic, prior to his move to Belgium in 2017, he’d made 2 attempts to move overseas, he signed with a Turkish club in 2010 but had his contract terminated before the start of the seasons and came back to the a league. He also spent six month on loan in Japan in 2014.

Then at 32 he goes to Genk and is now the Socceroos 2nd choice.

Brisbane Roar deal Adam Taggart to Asia

The interesting thing about the Scorchers s that they’re got a lot of depth, meaning that they’ve got a lot of decent players who aren’t playing regularly.

Guys like Cartwright, Whitman, Bosisto, Inglis, Kelly and Paris have been in and out of the team over the last few years, and could probably get a game elsewhere.

Scorchers tortured: What went wrong for Perth?

I know Short’s fc record isn’t great but you’ve got to remember that when he first came into the WA shield team, he was batting at 7/8 as a spin bowling all-rounder because Agar was unavailable.

He’s been picked for his batting in 4 games (3 at the back end of last season, and 1 this season.)

It’s also worth noting that he made 74 in a tour match against India.

Oh and his first class bowling average (from a small sample size) is better than Swepson, Zampa, Agar or Pope, could be a decent number 8 if we want to play 2 spinners next time we go to Asia.

D'arcy Short: The pigeon-holed dasher

My Australian team:
D’Aracy Short
Josh Philippe (wk)
Marcus Stoinis
Glenn Maxwell (c)
Aaron Finch
Ashton Turner
Dan Christian
James Faulkner
Jhye Richardson
Steve O’Keefe
Adam Zampa

Cam Boyce
Kane Richardson
Jordan Silk

Spin bowling is the key for Australia’s Twenty20 success

Australia has 2 twenty20s and 10 ODIs scheduled to be played over February March and April, meaning Maxwell and Stoinis won’t get an opportunity to play any shield games.

How Maxwell and Stoinis can do Australian cricket - and themselves - a big favour

If Stoinis plays it’ll be because they want another fast bowler in case Starc is too eratic again.

Same thing happened in the 2009 ashes when Watson played because Johnson was too eratic.

Stoinis does not deserve a Test debut

I think Handscomb and Carey are competing for the same position and one will be squeezed out when Smith and Warner come back.

Peter Siddle named for first ODI in eight years as Finch reveals Australian XI

Marnus will also play in the CA XI game

Three changes confirmed in new-look Australian squad to play Sri Lanka

Maxwell might as well pack up and go on the Twenty20 circuit, he’s clearly wasting his time playing first class cricket.

Three changes confirmed in new-look Australian squad to play Sri Lanka

Has Pucovski ever played against the pink ball?

Reports: Will Pucovski set to be selected against Sri Lanka, both Marsh brothers dropped

There’s a three day tour match starting next week between the CA XI and Sri Lanka.

I assume the CA XI will be made up of players not playing big bash I’d imagine a team of:

Nevil (c/wk)

If Renshaw or Pucovski can score a hundred in the tour match I’d consider picking them for the test series.

VOTE: Pick your Australian XI to play Sri Lanka

I think the best way to deal with the extra games is to have double headers every day.

Play 1 game at 4pm and the other at 7pm.

I think 4pm games will be more appealing to families.

It's time to refresh the BBL

Marsh’s abysmal series against India was in 2011/12 he was dropped for the next series. He was recalled to play South Africa in 2014 and made a century, but was dropped 2 games later when Watson returned from injury.

Who’s most likely to get the Shaun Marsh Test call-up from the BBL?

If Maxwell isn’t selected for the Sri Lanka series, he might as well quit first class cricket and go on the T20 circuit. I’d hate to see it happen but I wouldn’t begrudge him for doing it.

Labuschagne's Test selection is a farce

Faulkner got injured playing in England and missed the JLT Cup

James Faulkner deserves an ODI recall

In Maxwell’s first test he batted 8 both innings
In his second test he batted at 7, but was pushed up to open in the second innings
In his third test he batted 3&4 and was given a licence to be aggressive.
In his fourth test he made a century in India
In his fifth test he made 45 in the second innings (incorrectly given out)
In his sixth test he went down fighting while batting with the teal
In his seventh test he hit the winning runs.

Time for Maxwell and Stoinis to realise their God-given natural talent

I’m more interested to see the teams for the Australia vs Australia A tour match

I’d guess

Paine (c)

Australia A

Khawaja (c)
(Could probably add another 10 bowlers to the discussion)

Bancroft's return adds to Ashes puzzle

Sayers played an Australia A game against Gloustershire in 2013 and took 8 wickets, he outbowled Harris and Bird in that game

But I think he’ll need to have a strong end to the shield season to push for a spot.

Bancroft's return adds to Ashes puzzle

I should point out that Maxwell has a higher fc average than all members of the test side except Khawaja.

The misconception of Glenn Maxwell

I’m interested to see which bowlers the Hurricanes use. I assume Faulkner and Joffra are automatic starters, while you’d have to think that Clive Rose and Johan Botha would make up the spin attack, which would leave Tom Rogers, Riley Merideth, Aaron Summers, David Moody and Tymal Mills competing for 1 spot (2 if you bat everyone up a spot)
