Five Ashes spots up for grabs tomorrow
Glenn Maxwell has scored more test centuries in India than Justin Langer and Darren Lehmann combined.
Glenn Maxwell's Test career cruelled by World Cup flop
I think the test match in 2017 was shown on the Cricket Australia website/app.

Is this the first time a woman’s test match has been shown on Australian tv?
New faces and experienced hands as Aussie Ashes defence goes red ball
Maxwell is currently playing for Lancashire:
Saturday he took 4/41
Sunday he made 59
Wade and Head make tons to press Ashes cases
I’m not sure if Siddle will play the ashes, he couldn’t get a game during the home summer, even when Starc and Hazlewood where struggling. Then Richardson leapfrogged him for the Sri Lanka series.
Neser and Tremain are both decent bats, while Holland has done fairly well.
Hazlewood is bowling himself out of the Ashes
I’m not quite sure where people are getting this stat that Maxwell only performs in 1 out of 10 games.
He’s played 99 ODI innings for 19 50’s and 1 century.
That means he passes 50 in 1 out of 5 innings, even then you’re not accounting for not outs, quickfire 30’s and 40’s when the team needs it or the times he gets run out by his teammates.
Dropping Glenn Maxwell against England would be a huge mistake
I can’t see the logic in picking either Patterson or Pucovski for the 50 over. Pucovski didn’t even make the Victorian one day team last year and Patterson was pretty mediocre for NSW.
McDermott was man of the tournament in the jlt Cup last year.
Weatherald averages 46 in list a cricket with a strike rate of 102
Philippe averages 39 with a strike rate of 120
Forgotten Aussie quicks ready to press for World Cup contention
He was in the original squad, but pulled out because he had surgery on his shoulder, hopefully he’ll be fit for the home summer.
Forgotten Aussie quicks ready to press for World Cup contention
I’m not suggesting Sams should bat top 6 for the World Cup, I’m saying that he would’ve been worth having a look at during the home summer as a number 8.
Particularly when Starc, Cummins and Hazlewood were rested and they picked Siddle.
Five reasons Australia shouldn't play five bowlers
Maybe not Valente, but Sams numbers look pretty good in 50 over cricket
Batting: 4 innings, 152 runs at 38, sr 116
Bowling: 5 innings, 9 wickets at 22.44 economy: 5.13
I know it’s a small sample size, but remember Cummins made his test debut after just 3 Shield games
Five reasons Australia shouldn't play five bowlers
They should’ve picked Marsh for the November ODIs vs South Africa but I suspect he was left out because they wanted him to focus on the Sheffield Shield.
I think the constant push to make Marsh a test player has hurt his ODI chances.
Five reasons Australia shouldn't play five bowlers
There were a few other players worth considering in addition to Faulkner, Daniel Sams made to 50’s for nsw last season in the jlt Cup and Cam Valente has 2 50 over 100’s.
Five reasons Australia shouldn't play five bowlers
The only other allrounder worth picking would be Dan Christian.
So, which Marsh should replace the injured Marcus Stoinis?
The selectors clearly like him, he was in the squad for the Sri Lanka test series
So, which Marsh should replace the injured Marcus Stoinis?
Assuming Stoinis is out for the World Cup, it might actually help his ashes chances.
The 4 Day games of the Australia A tour don’t start until July 7, more than 3 weeks from now.
If he’s fit for those games I assume he’ll play, meaning that he’ll get 3 first class matches in English conditions prior to the first test, a couple of decent knocks there could see him make the Ashes team. He’ll be able to bat slowly.
So, which Marsh should replace the injured Marcus Stoinis?
I see that the selectors have finally ended their obsession with Billy Stanlake
Joe Burns and Kurtis Patterson snubbed as Cricket Australia unveil 2019-20 contract list
Best XI for both teams:
1 Day team:
Short
Wade (wk)
Head (c)
Handscomb
MMarsh
Turner
Agar
Neser
Abbott
Hazlewood
Richardson
4 day team:
Harris
Handscomb
Patterson
Head
Pucovski
Wade
Paine (c/wk)
Neser
Pattinson
Hazlewood
Holland
Australia A squads headlined by Test regulars and Ashes hopefuls
If they’ve left Burns out because he’s playing country cricket, why did they pick Pattinson? He’s signed up to play for Nottinghamshire.
Pucovski and Patterson shouldn’t be in the one day squad, Pucovski averages 7.5 in list a cricket and couldn’t get a game for Victoria last season, while Patterson averaged 23 last season. Should’ve taken Philippe and McDermott.
Nesers one day record isn’t great either.
As for M.Marsh he’s a good one day player but I can’t see the logic in picking him in the 4 day squad, Wade’s a better allrounder anyway.
Holland will probably be the backup spinner for the ashes
Australia A squads headlined by Test regulars and Ashes hopefuls
I went and had a look at the stats:
Fc bowling average:
Ashton Agar: 39.11
Mitch Swepson: 36.38
Adam Zampa: 47.09
D’Arcy Short: 35
Ashes squad will be decided by Australia 'A' games
Marnus made a century for Glamorgan overnight, interesting to see how he does over the rest of the season.
Ashes squad will be decided by Australia 'A' games
They’ve had a reserve keeper in the squad for the last few ashes tours, Nevill in 2015, wade in 2013, manou 2009, Haddin 2005.
Chris Hartley played a tour match in 09 when Haddin and Manou where injured, he was playing club cricket in England and was called in.
Even if they don’t take another keeper they’ll probably have another keeper playing club cricket in the uk if they need him. Sam Harper and Sam Whiteman where playing club cricket in the uk last year
Who should be Australia’s back-up Ashes keeper?
There’s 3 tour matches
Aus vs Aus A prior to the ashes
Aus vs Worcestershire between 1st and 2nd test
Aus vs Derbyshire between 3rd and 4th test
CA is currently getting $200 million for the tv deal surely they can afford to have an extra player in the squad.
Who should be Australia’s back-up Ashes keeper?
Geez, that’s a bit harsh on Sayers, he took more wickets than Hazlewood in that test and he hadn’t played any cricket for nearly 2 months.
The only reason he hasn’t had any form this season is because of injury.
Given his record in the past, he should get a spot in the A series, to see how he does in English conditions.
Although I don’t know if he’d make the A team, given that Neser, Copeland, Bird, Boland and Tremain all had good shield seasons.
Neser bolts into Ashes contention
Even if you’re going off Shield stats Labuchagne is a better option
Career shield averages:
Labuchagne 33
Mitch Marsh
I’d definitely pick Labuchagne over Marsh if given the option, however if they want an allrounder surely Maxwell is a better option.
