I found that first game on tape last year. Even knowing the result I was stressing til the siren. The defense by Qld was desperate and pure heart. That series typified State of Origin , guts, grit and glory and the classic saying that a champion team will beat a team of champions. I can tell ya Its Great to be a Queenslander but that series proved it in spades.

Neville Nobodies become somebodies: Why Fatty's 1995 boilover will always be the greatest State of Origin heist

The difference between QUEENSLAND and nsw team selections is that Queensland teams are full of Queenslanders and nsw teams dont have any. The results speak for themselves.

Blues blunders: The selection mistakes NSW keep making at Origin time to the delight of the Maroons

What about Coaches? Id say a little later in the year Fittler might make the list….

Buyer’s remorse: Ten NRL contracts that may end in tears of disappointment

Burton doesnt play for the Roosters so hes no chance but Id have Josh Reynolds as the blues 6 anyday.

Luai clearly under pressure from Burton to be punted as Cleary’s Origin halves partner

I had the privilege of watching Locky in the 3rd Ashes in Huddersfield 2003 and in The Tri Nations final at Leeds in 2004. He was The Man but Wally was The King.

Darren Lockyer is the best big game player of all time

I agree , he shouldve taken the ball an led. Poor showing. Was at the game and even the locals were asking why he wasnt bowling.

I was there to and at Huddersfield in 03. Locky was the man

25 in 25: Best Kangaroos player of NRL era - Lockyer, Slater, Smith, Joey, Inglis?

I think its because we won despite of ourselves. Happy we made the final but I can still be disappointed in how we played. Kiwis played well , we did enough and that didnt equal cracking game to me. Its not a crime to want more from that team than tripping over the line.

Kangaroos Tops & Flops: Mal gets the big calls right, but Latrell and Nathan need to do more

Hunt goes well and sure Grant benefits from coming on late but I think the team is suffering overall from lack of cohesion/ direction and dropping to one hooker one voice and one style gets rid of one cause of that. We could just play Hunt but Grants my pick. We seem to be lost in what we are trying to do and then everyone wants to take charge to right the ship which compounds it. Players are running back across each other , fouling the play and blowing a tackle to avoid a shepherd because no ones bossing them into place.

Kangaroos Tops & Flops: Mal gets the big calls right, but Latrell and Nathan need to do more

I think the whole team would run smoother and with more cohesion with either , DCE , Cleary or Hunt at halfback but not with two out of three on the field and with Teddy chiming in every second play. Grant gives better service from dummy half and the halves start to work better when hes on. For me its a case of too many cooks spoil the broth. We need to stop trying to manufacture Teddy into the backline and earn our moments, let the ball find the centres with room to move , pick a hooker and stick with it for 80mins and let Cleary make every call except if Munster wants it. I feel we are trying to accommodate too many individual talents , at the expense of the overall team.

Kangaroos Tops & Flops: Mal gets the big calls right, but Latrell and Nathan need to do more

As good as Teddy is he needs to stay out of it more. Weve got two great halves but hes cramping their style. He needs to let them play and feed the backs without him taking up the time and space.
Jurbo out , Cotter in. RCG isnt doing it for me and Id be happy if Grant played 80mins.

Gutsy Kangaroos fight through to World Cup final after edging out Kiwis in bruising battle

Good showing but Id like to see less strips of the ball and more defending practise next game. Just seemed the lazy option to keep stealing the ball. I can see why Ado Carr didnt get a run for nsw. Hes far too good to be playing with that blue rabble…

'He feels like part of the team now': Cleary stars in halfback audition as Kangaroos savage sorry Scotland

Time for Cleary to partner Munster. I cant wait to see if they click. DCE can have a bench roll in one more pool game then he can be a tourist unless theres injuries. Its time to let the kid have the ball.
Hunt played well and has had an excellent season ( QUEENSLANDER) but we and especially Munster played better with Grant on. I think we will need an extra forward more than a second hooker in the big games. Tedesco needs to learn its a team game and stay out of the backline at least once during the set , hes running them into the sideline. Latrell needs to involve himself but could also be a victim of Teddy taking his time and space. Im looking forward to Aus v NZ and then England in the final… GO THE ROOS

RLWC News: Cheika leaves door open for NRL switch, Kangaroos unpopular in UK, Young gun to make debut

Bennett by a mile. Not just club but Origin and Internationals. He might not always get the trophy but hes always had a crack. Hes never hid behind one club success. His is the One.

25 in 25: Best coach in NRL era - Bellamy, Bennett or Robinson the king of clipboard carriers?

Dugan ? Your having a laugh arent you.
Locky would be my no 1 pick. Its tight but if I picked an all time QLD team Locky gets it, which of course means hes the best of all time… Inglis has to be in top 10 if not 5. Mini was awesome .

25 in 25: Who were best fullbacks of NRL era - Slater, Lockyer, Tedesco, Minichiello, Hayne, RTS, GI, Turbo?

So dont play and get a job. Nobdy is forcing them to play. Nobody owes them a career. Plenty of people get hurt playing park footy and change their jobs or adjust themselves to suit.

Salary capastrophes: The overpaid NRL players on bloated contracts short-changing their clubs

Come on mate , theyre not victims. Your making out like its a burden.
Lets be honest , what job would school had have prepared most of them for. They get training , investment strategies , contacts , mentorship in league. If they havent set themselves up with a future where they could live comfortable with a council or bartender salary then they have no one to blame but themselves and if they havent they can still strive like everyone else.

Salary capastrophes: The overpaid NRL players on bloated contracts short-changing their clubs

I dont blame the players for taking the cash either but they arent banned from earning normal money after they finish playing. They can still get a job and keep paying the bills like regular citizens for decades to come. Id swap places anyday.

Im not sure of the way out of this but I do know weve been going the wrong way.
Since my mates brother topped himself when we were just 18 the rate has nearly tripled in under 30yrs. There was panic stations when 3 people died of bird flu 20 odd years ago but not a peep while 20 people each week ended their own life. We cant even say the s word we have to polish it up to “died suddenly”. We constantly say men dont like to talk yet we base our whole stategy around getting men to talk , meanwhile the number each week grows almost as fast as the programs or ribbon days to combat it. I dont know the answer and what I feel about the causes of this sickness , after knowing so many is a rabbit hole too deep for social media and now Im just sad and rambling and Im going to have a few beers and remember some mates but Im almost certain a mental health round will do sweet F A .

NRL needs more than a 'mental health round' - systemic change required to prevent tragedies

Ill be right , me and god are mates. Shes a Queenslander and loves the beer . Good sort to.
