The problem is Heart have to work a lot harder than the Victory ever did to gain a strong foothold in Melbourne. I’m not necesarily suggesting they should’ve been located in Geelong I’m just saying that they haven’t really done anything to give themselves a true identity for fans to connect with beyond the “Support us if you hate Victory”. A championship win would go along way to help create that identity and I think Harry Kewel -provided he stays fit and lasts more than a season- can also help.

Kewell and Heart: a match made in heaven?

The results may not have been there but the performances were. We managed to outplay all three teams in out group, unfortunately naive defending let us down in then end agains El Salvador especially. Against Turkey we were beaten by two amazing goals.

The point the Young Socceroos were finally beginning to show the results of the national curriculum and despite being knocked out in the first round has put us in good stead for the future

Where are the results for Aussie youth football teams?

Exactly, remember Brazil are 22nd in the world at the moment. I think that shows how frivolous the rankings are. The system is very much in need of an overhaul

Why Holger Osieck deserves some praise

I disagree Kisel adds little to our attack. On form i beleive he adds more than corica. Did you see him against north QLD? he was unplayable, tore them apart. He just needs to be played on the wing more often

Who will save Sydney FC's season?

Id proudly welcome Simunic back to Australia if he decided to play in the A-league. He’s a good player and the League needs defenders like him

Time to spare a thought for Simunic

Germany and Serbia wont score that many against Australia. I honestly think we have just as good a chance at getting through as Ghana and Serbia do, tho I do have a suspicion Serbia will beat us to the second spot. Germany maybe will beat us by two goals and serbia if they do beat us will probably be by just the solitary goal.

2009 a year of continued development for football

I would like to see the A-league interacting with fans more, youd be surprised how much little things like Twitter could help slowly boost attendances

Football is twittless and worse off for it

The FFA does continuously seem to shoot itself in the foot in terms of how it treats current and prospective fans. desirably in the future I would love to see Football specific stadiums built with capacity somewhere between 25-40 000 however where funding would be found for this is the main problem. Also in a country of 21 million it may be less realistic than say for the US, however I would love to see a few made if possible

Lack of atmosphere stifles A-League games

I disagree entirely a very poor article in my opinion. What prroof is there that English football is falling from fame? sure the top four may not be as strong as they have been and the chase for fourth place is tightly contested this year doesnt mean anything. One ‘poor’ year for the top 4 doesnt mean a fall for english football

English football's fall from fame

I really doubt these new laws on the phoenix will be implemented. Sepp Blatter has made a strong staement on the matter and said that Wellington will still be in the A-league as it is in the future. Having said that its terrible the way the AFC is threating the Phoenix, they deserve their spot

Long dark cloud hangs over New Zealand football

It wouldnt work

Australia should bid with Indonesia for 2022

You’re right it wasnt a bumper crowd but it was a very large increase from their average which is promising. Hopefully it wont be a one of

Has Christmas come early for football?

Great news for football, and Chris I assure you the A-league will be around for a long long time yet

Has Christmas come early for football?

Ive always liked Reddy, though im not sure how much an opportunity He will get with Phoenix once Paston returns. It be considered sacrilege if he displaced New Zealands qualifying hero

Reddy released by Roar, eyes Phoenix

His damaged reputation also came from the fact he was caught for drink driving on the way to training. something tells me that made any contractual agreement a bit null and void

Farina suing Roar for more than $325,000

Can’t wait, Its going to be a cracker. And yeah it is a little worrying that this game may match the total crowd numbers of last week

Time to celebrate an A-League blockbuster

Its great to see a non football writer pen an intelligent non bias column for once. good work Spiro!

Australia will host the 2022 Football World Cup

I like the large majority of people are so sick of this argument about FIFa trying to force their will upon Australia and its other codes, its all been blown out of proportion, but what are you going to do? This type of over the top sensationalism style reporting will continue right up until when the host nation is decided and possibly (If we win the bidding rights) right up until the 2022 World Cup itself

Herald Sun reports FIFA poses threat to Melbourne's freedom

Ive got to say Bleiberg was surprisingly gracious

Jets on the rise but lose their marquee star

Yeah, I was at the Sydney FC North QLD game on saturday and while Fowler was starved of service you could just see he was a cut above. Players like these have to reamin in the A-league

Fury boss confident of keeping Fowler

It hardly dominates ours david. Muntari barely plays for inter, Opare playes for Real Madrid Castilla which is their reserves, Kingson is 3rd choice keeper at Wigan. If you look they also have players who play in Scotland, Switzerland, Holland and Sweden. Theyre good but theyre not that much better than us, and last time we played them we beat them

Picking the Ghana World Cup squad

I agree about reinaldo TomF, especially over the last few weeks he’s begining to look dangerous again and is putting together a nice partnership with Van Dijk. And Malcolm and Tiatto will be gone by the ned of the season which will free up space in the Salary Cap quite nicely.

Reddy joins Roar's player exodus

Mcbreen is important for the Fury and needs to keep his focus for the rest of the season if Fury want to make a late push for the finals. He is a good foil for Fowler and despite the teams performance he impressed me with his touch and workrate against Sydney last week

Fury issue warning to defector McBreen

Reinaldos 25 mate

Reddy joins Roar's player exodus

Archie is to inconsistent to make the aquad this time around i believe. Even at A-league level, for every 1 good game he has, he has another where he is completely anonomous. Granted on his good day he is one of the best in the league
