I am a big fan of Jock and have been since his 2019 season, but I don’t think he played that well on the weekend. Mind you, neither did jorgenson when I watched the tahs last week.

Five things we learned: Why Schmidt is in a better place than Rennie was, how Kiss has transformed Reds

Read the last sentence of my initial comment. I said im keeping my powder dry on whether the reds have improved or not… You keep disagreeing with me yet reinforcing my original comment.

The Wrap: The two massive power shifts shaping Australian and New Zealand rugby

No one said they were perfect mate. Execution and dropped passes let them down plenty, but at least they went into that game with a winning strategy, which you couldn’t always say with thorn (who I supported). Actually quite reminiscent of the wallabies under rennie in some respects. In my personal opinion, I actually think the reds stuck to that gameplan of running it a little too much, I would’ve liked to have seen a few more kicks in the 2nd half when they were starved of territory. Just like the one that led to their 3rd try…

The Wrap: The two massive power shifts shaping Australian and New Zealand rugby

And how does that negate my point exactly? I’d argue the reds beat the chiefs last year largely because of their fight, spirit, and passion…

The Wrap: The two massive power shifts shaping Australian and New Zealand rugby

People seem incredibly impatient with new franchises in Aus Geoff – titans, suns, GWS, etc. Fremantle joined the AFL in 1995 and still haven’t won a premiership, and that doesn’t mean they’ve failed… It seems ridiculous to me to think that a new team can establish itself and be competitive in a comp that is well established in such a short time frame. If the rebels won super rugby in the first 2-3 years what would that say about the much vaunted quality and foundations of the crusaders, brumbies etc. Would be a real egg on face moment. Re: the costs – well i bet the rebels could’ve used that $2.6 million more than hamish needed it for another cocktail party for his mates. Why is there no talk of seeking reparations/damages etc? Someone at woolies would get sacked/go to court for taking a $20 note out of the till.

The Wrap: The two massive power shifts shaping Australian and New Zealand rugby

I’d argue that under Thorn the reds very much played with fight, spirit and passion, but not always with smarts and nous. That, in my opinion, is what Kiss has brought along with a couple of key recruits (Thorn’s other weakness – player recruitment). The reds clearly went into that game with a specific gameplan for the chiefs and it worked. They ran the ball back in open play rather than kicked it back to dangerous counter attackers like Dmac and they shifted the ball to the edges liberally, both blind and open side. In defence, they put numbers into the tackle to slow and disrupt chiefs ball. Both tactics worked. They’re start to the season is encouraging but ill keep my powder dry on who the movers and shakers are for another couple of weeks, the cynic in me says that maybe some of the kiwi teams are having slow starts/shifted back to the pack rather than the aus teams improving.

Moore was one of the few who questioned the ‘captain’s pick’ of Eddie back in Jan so have to give him credit. And he is absolutely right, we need systems in place rather than jumping from one messiah to the next. This is what Raelene did with the hiring of rennie and co, lets see if we can’t go back to something similar.

'Cast a wide net': Ex-Wallabies skipper urges RA to pick best coach regardless of where they're from

But Gordon wasn’t playing that badly. The problem was Eddie kept asking him to do things he isn’t good at and doesn’t do that often. He doesn’t place kick for the rebels but was asked to by eddie. He was put at the back to field high balls when it clearly isn’t a strength. His skill and why he was picked is his ability to run an attack, make attacking kicks, and defend in the line – problem is he didn’t get to do much of it. If Eddie wanted a 10 that place kicked and hung out the back, why did he pick carter in the first place!?!

Jones to return to Australia as Japanese reports link Wallabies coach as favourite to take over Brave Blossoms

No no, remember the code war with league and signing of sualii earnt the game zillions, we are flush with cash from those 3 headlines we got back in March.

The Wallabies' World Cup campaign was a disaster from start to finish - but sacking Eddie Jones isn't the answer

Let’s not get personal, Phil was a quality player and I think he is doing what he thinks is best. But, yes I thought about this a couple of weeks ago. Most of the commentators and decision makers in Aus rugby have an existing relationship with Eddie and I think that meant they had a bit of a blind spot with him knowingly or not over the last 9 months, now some are questioning their initial positions. giteau, turinui and drew? all commentators who played under him I think. Roff and Waugh both on the board also played under him.

You’re right change for the sake of change is bad. We need to id the problem and then find a solution that’ll fix it. I was against change for changes sake with Eddie and Rennie because the head coach wasn’t the problem, or solution. Same goes for paying overs on league players. A lack of alignment and cohesion is one of the major issues in Aus rugby as has been identified by numerous reviews now for over 10 years. One way to address that problem is centralisation. Problem –> solution. Now, should we worry that Hamish is the one driving it? Yes, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it or that it’s a bad idea, it just means we need the right people in the right rooms to make sure he doesn’t sign himself up as Kim Jong McLennan, supreme leader for eternity.

To Phil’s defence, he wasn’t the boss then. But for that reason he should be able to look on it with fresh eyes and call a spade a spade rather than cover for Hamish. He doesn’t even seem to like him, he said his most endearing trait was ambition on the roar pod!

We have a bad system now! Centralisation if done well (see Ireland) will be an improvement. Problem is we won’t know for the better part of 10 years if it works tbh.

I’d rather have a good system with bad leaders then a bad system with bad leaders. If the system is set up right it should run itself and not be so driven by individuals. I wonder who is drawing up the paperwork…

I’d imagine they simply can’t afford to sack him, but they can’t really come out and say that. Which only goes to prove how poor a decision it was by Hamish not only to swap coaches so close to the rwc, but to sign Eddie for 5 years!?! Apparently they’re going to do a review, but won’t surprise me if it’s in house and confidential.

The bit that grinds my gears is that Waugh says that changing coaches won’t fix things (correct to a degree) but says this with no hint of reflection or irony on the fact that they sacked Rennie not 10 months ago and parroted Eddie as the saviour this entire time!?! Andy Marinos has never looked so wise. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cx-7aGIoyI4/?igshid=NzZhOTFlYzFmZQ==

Don’t waste a good crisis is another saying often floated around.

Hamish, Eddie and co can all be as wrong and useless as described above AND centralisation can still be the right way forward. Both things can be true. Clock right twice a day etx. Now, do we want Hamish to be the one with the remote in his hand is another question…

Not many bigger then Maloney…

SPIRO ZAVOS: Eddie Jones' coaching flaw is his belief that rugby is the same game as league

It’s pretty clear Hamish had eyes for only one person and would’ve done anything to get him. He had been wining and dining Eddie for 2 years prior. Very different to the approach castle applied when picking up Rennie that was thorough, thought out, and assessed the whole coaching team not just head coach. Also read the resume of more than one bloke.

SPIRO ZAVOS: Eddie Jones' coaching flaw is his belief that rugby is the same game as league

“I think this is not so much around chopping and changing coaches as it is around actually just fixing the system. It’s pretty evident when we lose a couple of players, the depth of the player that we’re bringing through is not necessarily up to it.” Where was this view 10 months ago!?!!!?!!! It is spot on and although I’m far from eddies biggest fan, I don’t know if sacking him is the right answer. But it is infuriating that this is said just 10 months after Rennie has been sacked and just 1 month ago when apparently changing the coach was gonna mean we sky rocket from 9th to 1st 😡. Gosh I’d love to see some self reflection from some of these people!!!

RA 'committed' to Eddie despite 'bitterly disappointing' RWC campaign, in talks with NZR over northern threat

I’d like to think there is a solution that achieves both but I appreciate that you have weighed up your options and actually made a clear decision on what’s important to you. There will always be tradeoffs and I think getting our priorities straight will be key 👍.

The Wrap: Wallabies scrape a win but the team, and the code, have entered Chinese water torture territory

Still doesn’t reject the point though. I’d find it hard to believe any overseas club, most of which have export player caps, are going to carry 10 Aussies. It also isn’t a model I’d want to follow anyway as it’s less likely to lead to cohesion. How can cohesion be built into your proposal? Ireland, crusaders, storm, Panthers, Leinster etc all now have had sustained success built off a similarly cohesive structure. I don’t see why we should work away from those structures that are so proven. Noting that the current structures don’t do that well either. But I don’t see how scattering our best players to the wind, and the rest in a semi pro club comp is the answer I’m afraid.

The Wrap: Wallabies scrape a win but the team, and the code, have entered Chinese water torture territory

France still rely on two club teams for the bulk of their national players. If Aus have their players scattered across a dozen or more euro teams, how exactly do you build that cohesion???

The Wrap: Wallabies scrape a win but the team, and the code, have entered Chinese water torture territory

The only thing good signing cleary would do is probably put the final nail in the coffin of Hamish’s tenure as the states would finally have enough evidence for a coup and to put Hamish into an asylum for being mentally unfit to tie his shoelaces let alone run a sports admin. Christy, this makes me question your sanity given where the game is at right now that you think this is a good move in substance and/or purely in optics especially considering you have read and included Ben Darwin’s pretty clear hole in your argument.

Why the Wallabies shouldn't miss out on the next Joey and try to lure Cleary for 2027 World Cup
