Katz. World Cups are won by teams of 15 on the field, 7 on the bench and the wider player group pushing hard to make the grade. If the best 15 could beat anyone, but he next 15 struggle against everyone, then things don’t really bode well for the next few months…..

Samoa defeat Wallabies in shock upset

I think its fair to say the ref in the previous encounter between these to sides wasn’t exactly neutral. Having said that, I don’t think this guy would be the first pick for most kiwis.
I just hope the players on the field determine the result and not the officials.

Crusaders show why Kiwis are a cut above

I wrote an article last year saying that rugby was dying in Australia. Well 48300 noisy Queensland and Crusader fans proved that was wrong. And it was great to see. And the game a was a great advert for the game. Congratulations to both teams on a sensational game.
Lesson 1 – ARU – note that there were a lot of father/son – family combinations at the game. Timing is everything!!

Pity as mentioned above the final result comes down to an incorrect call. I do not unsubscribe to the “biased ref” call from above comments, more the inaccurate and incompetency of all 3 officials. Highlighted already is the forward pass for the first try, then the knock on by Digby on halfway and the obvious clean out and counter rucking by the crusader forwards to leave the ball out of any ruck that may have previously formed.
Other decisions in the crusaders favour may have happened during the game, however like all good sports fans, I didn’t see anything that the crusaders did wrong, as the reds supporters didn’t see anything the reds did wrong.

Lesson 2 – ARU/SANZAR (or whomever appoints the officials) Appoint someone competent for a big game such as this. whether from NZ, OZ or SA should not matter, I do not think that most referees are biased at this level of play. I just think that maybe Stu is past his best, and that he should stop looking for numbers 6, 7, and 8 at each breakdown.

Player of the day for me – Beau Robinson. He was everywhere until he went off. Massive shame for him as he has probably played his way into the Wallaby run on side. I hope he has a speedy recovery from the injury and he is just as exciting to watch as our own Ritchie. As for Quade Spencer….oops Cooper i still haven’t got it yet with him. Can be sensational, but certainly not consistent. Must cause the coach and players around him all sorts of headaches not knowing what might happen next!

Lets hope the ARU can schedule more games to allow bigger crowds to come and watch exciting open play by those wanting to play that style, and that the officials can allow the game to be played.
