Well I may be the only one but I reckon it’s fair enough.
He’s out of pocket $7k which let’s be frank he’s never going to see.
Rebels can’t legally pay him.
RA don’t want to create a precedent and pay him that $7k so he gets $7k from RA by having a week off while they pay him wages. He’s still out $7k but has a holiday for a week. Money for nothing and your chicks for free.
The interesting thing would be if RA docked his pay.
In that case I think they’d be in dispute and he’d probably not play again.
Anyway, whatever will be will be regardless of how we bang on in an opinion site.
Exclusive: Wallaby refused to play for Rebels against Reds over outstanding debt
Blues,
“Thought there was a scheme in Oz where redundancy/Super payments were covered in the event of a firm falling over?”
There is but it is clearly going to take a while to wash through.

Leroy,
I reckon he’s decided that $7k is worth about one game (although in truth he’d be paid more than that before tax) and he’ll take payment in kind, ie: being paid for doing nothing for a week.
He was at training today so my guess is he feels the debt is clear.

“He needs to consider how he wants to play also. Do the skills of the player suit how he wants to play the game.”
True oz, there is a bit of “chicken and egg” in this isn’t there?
He may lean to or want to play a certain style as a preference but the players available can’t play that style, so he has to look at the skills he has or can quickly attain and chose a style that will work.

could you please not use that expression?

Sav,
I noticed a lot of North – South rolling and less East – West rolling which has been officiated so strictly by the rest of the Refs (AU & NZ) resulting in very quick ruck ball.
I think I commentated in the blog that JW seemed to have a different interpretation from the others.
I think ruck speed has been a feature of SRPac generally so far this season.

It’s a big pie even allowing for AFL and Football.

Good post Cam.
This wasn’t planned to coincide with Rebs troubles, they have been ramping up the pathways for a little while now but Storm taking local development seriously is good news for RL and unfortunately bad timing for RU.

RH,
“Melbourne Storm have tried and no doubt are trying again”
This is not talking about the past, it’s talking about the future.
One of the best administrators in Australian sport has acknowledged they haven’t done enough and committed his organisation to development in the future. An organisation that has succeeded at everything else they’ve put their effort into.
To be honest they’ve really only done the minimum to date but if you think they aren’t serious about this you’re dreaming.

Hi GP,
“This is a meeting that should have taken place in December where, in more cordial and constructive circumstances, a less damaging outcome might have been achievable”
It’s not going to get any easier in retain and develop Rugby talent in Melbourne.
From Nine NRL;
“”In two and a half decades since entering the NRL, 195 different players have pulled on a Melbourne Storm jersey.
Just five of those have been Victorian born and bred.
“That’s not really something we’re proud of,” football manager Frank Ponissi tells Wide World of Sports.
The unveiling of a new rugby league institute in Broadmeadows is the start of what Ponissi calls a five-year plan.
“We’ve made a conscious decision and commitment now to having more Victorian players come through the system and play for the Storm, that’s the aim,” Ponissi explains.
“While we’re really proud of the five Victorians who have played for the Melbourne Storm in the last 26 or so years, that’s not really something we’re proud of.
“So the aim certainly in the next five years is to set the foundations and at least double that in that period of time. Then from there the sky’s the limit.
“We genuinely believe the talent is here in Melbourne, it just hasn’t been nurtured properly. We’ve got some big plans over the next three to five years to really set those foundations.”
The Storm joined forces with the Victorian government, NRL Victoria, and Touch Football Australia to fund the new facility in the Hume City Council area.
It includes four playing fields, a centre of excellence equipped with multiple change rooms, a gym, offices, as well as a pavilion and car park.
The site will remain the home of the Northern Thunder – the junior club that produced Melbourne’s latest rising NRL superstar Sua Fa’alogo – while the Storm will also use it as a part-time training base due to its proximity to the airport.”
Victoria’s NRL age group teams are now all aligned under the Storm banner from U16 up (all played curtain raisers to the Auckland Warriors game on Friday night) and soon might be the only pathway to a national professional competition for junior Victorian Rugby players.
In terms of junior development Storm have been a sleeping giant and now they are awake and will be the only game in town.

He was back at training so I’m leaning the other way. To be honest he probably could get out anyway as TWAS suggests.
