West Coast Eagles season review: West is not best

Horrific season given the state of the list, albeit injuries and a stale game plan didn’t help. They’ll need a good pre season and plenty of tackling practice… and perhaps not walk under so many ladders. Hopefully the end of the credits in the bank selection policy and bringing back underdone seniors when the youngsters were doing ok. Shame to see brander go though.

What it really shows is that Adam Goodes was a heck of a player given the position he played.

Lol well if we get a new pitch out of it I won’t complain. Enjoy the buildup! Must be good to have something to get through lockdowns

Hawthorn season review: A remarkable reverse tank

It would be good to see Melbourne win for sentimental reasons though – Gawn and Jones have been excellent players.

But not to WA. He’s not welcome by the premier 😂

Is Cameron off the list? Thought it was just a yearlong injury this season.

Flying high? Not likely, as the West Coast Eagles might be headed straight down

Needed a good midfield coach after Mitchell left – real sliding doors moment there

The same one the dockers play on 😛

Premierships aren’t necessarily won by the side with the most stars but how players 16-22 perform on the day I feel. Eg schache had a blinder in the Prelim. Hutchings and Schofield shut out Sidebottom and De Goey in 2018. Richmond’s last 3 premierships – the back end of the list was critical (as was dusty and houli)

Tahlia is not the worst player around and can be gotten relatively cheaply?

Tbh I don’t know much about Knights other than that ill-fated stint at the Bombers. Any gossip?

Don’t think anyone on the list bar Yeo/Kelly/Allen maybe would be worth a top 10 pick due to age profile.

You cherry picked my comments to imply I had a chip on my shoulder so what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. We are probably at cross purposes. My point is simply that evaluating home ground advantage can’t be done in isolation ignoring travel impacts and I have given an eg (nic nat & time on ground to make my point). In my view the last 2 years does not really prove anything given it is such a small data set. After all 2 cold days in summer doesn’t disprove climate change does it (and here we go again)? Anw i am happy to agree to disagree on this.

They’ll come good eventually the dockers. Probably need everyone on the park.

Ahh well. You already know what the response will be to that…

Lol no. It’s a lot of cash and I have a baby otw.

In an ideal world the line-up at seasons end will be: backs: witherden, 2 from McGovern/barrass/H Edwards, rotham, Cole and duggan. Mids: yeo, redden, L Edwards, Nic Nat, Gaff, Kelly. Forwards: Allen, Darling, Ryan, Cripps, Rioli, Cameron. Interchange: Nelson, West, waterman/brander, bailey Williams. I’m anticipating lots of injuries for schuey hurn and Kennedy unfortunately. Also I can’t count and I forgot sheed.

Yes but the moment that ball hits the ground or they start asking players to tackle properly….

Obsessed I did read what you said. You said home ground advantage and travel are “separate issues” didn’t you? I’m making the observation that they are interrelated in assessing whether it is a factor and the level to which it affects performance. After all if you went by hitout/clearance/contested ball statistics Nic Nat is probably the premier ruck in the game but there are people who legitimately point out that his time on ground is low. I agree – you can’t assess nic nats quality as a ruck compared with Gawn etc without looking at time on ground. Likewise it is a bit of a strange analysis to assess cumulative home ground advantage without taking into account cumulative travel. Funnily enough did you read the part where I said it is a pointless argument given there are 10 Victorian teams? Maybe you are too busy looking for an interstate travel chip straw man to argue about? 😛

Yeah agreed, but Clarkson will never go west and is unlikely to surface at Geelong unless he feels like giving Kennett a giant V. Not sure re the hardwick system being dead given it is kind of replicated by the two GF finalists…. all this run and carry is so unseemly. Let the ball do the work
