They went into the match with no backup 10. What happen to Patchell and the other former NZ U20 player whose name escapes me?

The Wrap: Crusaders' shot clock fiasco and shhh, don’t put the moz on Darby

Do they have big injury list? Felt like the line up was missing a lot players.

Darcy Swain headbutt was 2 weeks, that was handed down by World Rugby.

They need to go into more detail when it comes to mitigating factors.

Yep will be hugely embarrassing if European teams don’t win the CWC, with so much money spent.

'I'm a big fan': Kiss throws weight behind Club World Cup as Europe and Super Rugby agree to new tournament

Yep those European clubs who spend lots of money recruitment and stacking rosters, they will have pressure to win.

That would be great if the Drua made it. But they need to figure out how to win games outside of Fiji first. MP are not looking good, but let’s see.

I’m sure atleast couple of Aus side make it. The last couple of years of SRP there have been 2 Aus sides in the top 6.

I read somewhere that teams will be selected on merit, so in the case of SRP the top 6 on the table

I’m surprised that this is going ahead. The euro clubs must be really in need for new cash flows as they are the ones who are compromising most with domestic league changes and champions league changes. Those competitions were untouchable in the past.

NZ men went undefeated, the NZ women lost the France in pool play.

The Wrap: 'Take them to a dark place' - A quiet round grabs eyeballs for all the wrong reasons

Have to sort out their strategy and priorities. All that cash influx will burn out fast.
They really need to devise a new strategy for professional rugby and pathways to professional rugby. Having a super rugby team in a city is not the only way to grow the sport in that city.

There were pro rugby league clubs in Adelaide and Perth but they didn’t survive long after the Super league war. Rugby league focused on core market professionally, built it up their pro comp from there. I am not saying this is the best approach.

The Tahs have it better, they have RA equity

'It can be something great': Schmidt turns to 'scrum doctor' as next step in Wallabies rebuild

He’s was more successful at the Reds during his tenure than NSW have over the same tenure. Both teams are considered to have the same depth of talent and resources.

Brad Thorn with the right set of assistants can be good coaching team. He was thrust into SR coaching when he probably should have been understudy to other good coaches and build up his CV. I’m sure Thorn will grow as a coach.

Five things we learnt: Why Cheika could be the man to resurrect Tahs, Thor is the new Quade, value of sevens

What about Brad Thorn?

Compared to Sualii, this is reasonable.

Wonder kid offered 3-yr, $1.6m deal to stay in Aussie rugby - and why it could see Wallabies stars leave Ballymore

Guess they shouldn’t sign any players then and close up shop

500k per year for 3 years in RU vs 900k per year for 2 years in RL…If the RA do manage to sign him then it’s a win right?
I doubt roosters are going to pay him 900k per year though.

Along with locking inexperience, there is leadership void as well. Sam Cane on sabbatical will return back to NZ, but he is dealing with his own injury problems from last I heard.
There’s plenty of young and exciting players, but need a Gandalf to guide them. When are 35 year old is putting in man of the match performances less than 12 months ago, you don’t say no based on age.

Razor's pursuit of 'hard bastard' Sam Whitelock reveals the ugly truth about the modern All Blacks

I’m assuming he is eligible for Scotland straight away, only because there was a report that Scotland wanted to sign him to Glasgow. The 5 year residency has slowed down players moving mid career to represent another country. Unless Scotland were desperate.

The Wrap: Wallaby's brain fade that cost the Tahs, con job worthy of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

I think Fergus Burke is eligible for Scotland so I don’t think it’s a simple money move.
But agree, the quality has dropped a bit.

The only players on sabbatical are Savea and Cane. Beaudie just signed a new contract with NZR whilst he was in Japan. The rest are not contracted to NZR. Frizell I’m sure has a multi year contract with his club.

I think it’s great that Razor has gone to Japan. It’s good to keep in touch with players who have left NZ shores, sabbatical or otherwise, something that hasn’t been done well in the past.

'It's time we grew up': The jarring hypocrisy that proves All Blacks are getting key call all wrong

The RnR is part of package that keeps the players in NZ. Agree it devalues the product, but it would be further devalued if those players are no longer playing in SRP.

Clear line of sight and no sudden change in height/direction – that’s what the framework says, not bent hips/legs. There is always some sort of dip in most tackles, especially in the forwards as they brace for impact so that is not considered mitigation when clear line of sight and no sudden change in height/direction. Note that the ball carrier was looking up to the tackler not ducking his head into contact.

Anyway, it seems the onus is always on the tackler to get it right. Get it wrong – risk card and head injury to ball carrier/tackler, or risk head injury to tackler by going low.

All these cards debate etc. is always about the tackler, I don’t know how much holistic thinking is going on with regards to making the game safer overall. So many aspects of the game can be reviewed/changed -but that may change the fabric of the game. Need some smart rugby people involved. I think its all in the ‘too hard basket’ for WR.

The Wrap: Reds light up Melbourne, while it's lights out for TV over Lienert-Brown concussion

Yellow card if clear and obvious, followed by strict post match citing process to ensure all head contacts are reviewed, players suspended and teams fined.
They can also change to nipple height law. Players are coached to tackle high so they can wrap and prevent offloads. The nipple height would make most up right tackles illegal, head contact or not, makes it easier to adjudicate the game but also reducing the risk of head injury in tackles. Plus more offloads as a bonus.
The Sef case is a tackle gone wrong. The onus is on tackler to get lower, we see it often especially in the NH the chop tackle that happens very low.
I’m sure some solutions lie within NFL that could be incorporated in rugby, they the most professional contact sport with a history or head injury issues.
