So Phil Waugh became CEO and immediately proposed the idea of merging Rebels and Moana Pasifika….yeah right!
This is Hamish McLennan’s idea.
What’s Pasifikia?

Leaked document says RA out to 'destroy Super Rugby' and 'turn members against each other' as Rebels' pain comes to light

They played at Leichhardt. I don’t know who paid for it. On top of that accomodation relocation expenses etc.

Parochialism and denial runs rampant as Australia's rugby states are hunted by debt, one by one

The question that should be asked why RA hasn’t distributed the $7-8mil per year they receive from NZR for SRP to their SR sides?
That’s atleast 1.15mil per AU SR team every year from 2023 to 2025.
McLennan and Marino’s brokered the deal, hailed as a win for RA, but then went on to use that money to sack Dave Rennie, hire EJ, sign up Sualii.

They had no intention of being at their peak for the Boks and France matches. They planned their campaign to peak from the Italy match onwards. Even the French coach said that whilst NZ pool match is a big game, it’s the Italy match which is the critical match for the pool.

It almost worked out. The Irish reckon their squad should have been managed better instead of rolling out their best team for all pool matches. However SA managed the toughest pool and toughest pathway to final to win it all. I think ultimately that’s what irked most NZ fans about Fozzie, accepting losses along the way for the greater good.

'Something we needed': Coles says ABs would not have made RWC final without Schmidt - and why Wallabies stand to benefit

This Fiji vs ABs is to fill the calender for both teams as the NH teams want to lessen their load.
Same for SA vs Portugal, and likely Australia vs Georgia (althought not confirmed). These are not blockbuster matches and won’t fill stadiums.

Yes the NZ public want to see more of ABs but they want to see them playing top opposition i.e. SA France Ire Eng etc.. France will play in NZ in ’25, those games will be in NZ and will sell out easily. However most of NZ public consume ABs via tv, so playing in USA west coast Saturday night, sunday afternoon NZ/Fiji/Aus time is a favourable time + experiment for future opportunities i.e. super rugby.

Ultimately USA rugby has to decide their roadmap to 2031. How they plan to be competitive. Since the inception of MLR, this hasn’t correlated positively for USA national team. The Drua have been a success..similarly Jaguares were a success in terms of providing local players professional opportunities and translating in test arena. Sunwolves were not a success on the field but the cohesion helped the Japan national team in 2019 world cup. Sunwolves departure also resulted in declining Japan performance.
So there is benefits of joining SRP if done right. USA will have no problems funding wise, they can get backers sponsors on board. The only problem is they don’t have a pipeline of rugby talent that Fiji/Argentina have. Maybe that’s where the MLR competition helps. The SRA is promising but may not align with USAs 2031 ambitions in terms of performance hit.

Rugby News: Four English clubs in talks with Saudis, All Blacks to meet Fiji in San Diego as fixtures CONFIRMED

Fiji playing in NZ is no longer a novelty with the Drua travelling playing 2-3 games every year in NZ. Sure Fiji vs ABs in NZ will get a decent crowd 30k. ABs going to Fiji will be big deal for Fiji but both parties may be financially worse off if not arranged properly.
There is no point n ABs playing USA, they did 2 years and put plenty of points on them. Then people complain about that too. I’m sure the ABxv or NZ Maori will play against USA soon. The ABs v Fiji in USA is an experiment in a new time zone where potentially a new Super Rugby franchise could be based. The west coast of USA is more accessible from NZ/Aus/Fiji with regular direct flights.

Maybe if England agreed to play 3 tests instead of just 2 then there would not be a need to go all the way to USA this year. Yet SH teams are expected to play minimum of 3 tests in Europe in end of year tours.

No doubt, but plenty of NRL AFL clubs use that money to fund their teams (first grade and below). Not every club has a sugar daddy bank rolling them.

The Wrap: Unity, integrity and the other casualties of shameful leaks aimed at the Rebels

That’s was because they distributed around $40mil to provinces from the $200mil they received from equity sale. Equity sale isn’t classed as income. Still a $10mil loss in 2022 but it was very much a covid affected year with super rugby bubble and introduction of women’s rugby SR aupiki. They were spending, investing, whilst RA were cutting costs and now risk cutting a team.

I wonder that too. It doesn’t cost anything but adds so much interest.

No talk of pokies huh. Whilst rebels stance against gambling sponsorship is commendable, that money would probably prove to be the difference.
The NRL clubs feed off pokies income. Not sure of AFL- but I guess its similar.

500k doesn’t sound much. Have the rebels handed their reigns over to RA yet? Or is that part of the conjecture – that Rebels hand over reigns thus increasing risk of getting chopped. Waratahs handed reigns but they are never getting cut.

Rugby Australia is back where they hoped they would never return - and their next move could make or break the game

If I am not mistaken, the ABs in the past normally don’t do training camps in January or mid Super Rugby, at least not with media presence. On the other hand Wallabies are far more known for holding camps which gets publicized.

COMMENT: Rugby Australia given wake-up call by All Blacks ... AGAIN

I think it was this article. But I saw snapshot of the article on social media. I cannot find the social media post though and the article you have to pay.. https://www.codesports.com.au/rugby-union/rugby-australia-faces-financial-crisis-dan-mckellar-being-eyed-as-replacement-for-eddie-jones/news-story/23785938c47640c3a1201b095727136e

Why News Corp and Foxtel are set to go after rugby broadcast rights despite Wallabies' World Cup flop

Conveniently leave out that Ch9 have stated they won’t pay more than their current deal. Plus Lions tour is already part of current Ch9 deal (cheap) so News won’t be getting that.

Why News Corp and Foxtel are set to go after rugby broadcast rights despite Wallabies' World Cup flop

I don’t know what vision Eddie sold to RA about 2023 aspirations but it’s just so amateur and naive from RA side… Did they not ask Eddie what assistants he will bring? Borthwick brought assistants from Leciester tigers. Gatland was familiar with the Welsh setup as he was coach until last RWC and Lions tour. Eddie has been away from the Australian game – a Kiwi Super Rugby coach would know more the Aussie players than Eddie. The coach heart transplant that RA had hoped for has gone wrong and backwards.

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

DENIED (sort of): Jones finally addresses Japan job report but a big question still remains

Won’t happen. South Africa won’t allow it citing too much travel player welfare etc.
The only way Japan and Fiji get in is if SA moves to 6 nations (that’s if Europe wants them).
But the new nations league will mean Japan and Fiji will get more Tier 1 games?

The Wrap: Group C fast becoming everyone’s favourite - except for the Wallabies as early flight home looms large

Yes years. The W league was formed in 2008 as opposed to Super W in 2018. That’s domestic competition alone. The Matildas have gotten close to equal treatment as Socceroos in terms of pay and high performance environment.

Yep 100% the WAG stuff burst the dam

Cattle class-flying Wallaroos blow up at RA's double standards, question big money Suaalii move

Football Australia has been investing in Matildas and women’s soccer for years, including marketing them as much as socceroos. If RA invested in the wallaroos with and women’s rugby by the time Aus hosts the women’s world cup in 2029 they can definitely get a lot of support and with that raise money. The talent is there, they just don’t have anywhere to play and get paid except NRLW.

For a journo who has all the inside scoops, interestingly no mention of possibly RA pulling Wallabies out of next weekends match against France over commercial terms.

Is Leicester going to be the ‘utility’ player that EJ talks about?
Seems like wingers gonna be running amok in the pool matches. I’m sure the ABs coaches will have a plan to minimise the effort for numbers 4-8 against the likes of Namibia and Uruguay. The front row and backline can take the load. Will be interesting to see how locks and backrow is managed.
There are no short turn around matches in pool play. The shortest is 6 days, the longest is 14 days. So plenty of time to rest and recover. Come knockouts it will the tried and trusted to climb Everest, to climb Everest again and climb Everest for the final time.

All Blacks CONFIRMED: Fozzie's HUGE Rugby World Cup gamble, Retallick to miss France opener

Specialist 12? He has the skillset to execute the same plan that the ABs been using with Jordie at 12. Plus also combination with Mo’unga.

All Blacks CONFIRMED: Fozzie's HUGE Rugby World Cup gamble, Retallick to miss France opener

Play crap and still win. That’s how McCaw’s team used to eek out victories.
Wallabies were good but could have been great if they managed to convert more points from all the first half pressure.

Bledisloe heartbreak: Eddie's Wallabies denied by last minute Mo'unga penalty as ABs seal stunning comeback
