Nearly Immortals: The best of the rest

We have a HOF that never gets promoted. The 110 names there should be given greater recognition, and the stupid Immortals concept prevents that

Canberra conquer Canterbury to snap losing streak but concerns for Croker after comeback cut short

I don’t think the Bunnies will suffer from the Bennett curse. With Bennett leaving they knew their window was closing. They let Reynolds go, Gagai go, they are giving the young guys game time. I know the fans have issues with some of the selections, but its easier to manage blooding these players and building their confidence a couple at a time. Not every team is Melbourne, you can’t compete every year.

Look at the guys under 27 getting a run this year, think where these guys will be in 2024 and 2025.

And I don’t get the criticism of the Reynolds non-signing. Worry about how it looks after his 3 years in Brisbane, not 9 rounds into the first year

Are the Rabbitohs going to make the eight?

No, the NRL are on the side of the stonewallers – the ones who held everything up so that they can get their numbers so they can give to the NRL clubs.

NSWRL is getting extra funding due to their cut from SOO broadcast rights and corporate support of the SOO team. Half the NSWRL board want to use the extra funding to support grass roots and country, the other half want the funds passed onto the NRL clubs. V’Landys is siding with the latter

And instead of Brisbane working it off their own goal line they get the penalty, pressure eased and they score that possession

Gutherson needs to follow Paulo every time he gets the ball. Not just this week but every week. Often this is left to Mahoney to do, which doesn’t have the impact from the offload it should and stifles their next play

They will be more experienced come finals time, but it may be too late by then. After the Titans this week, they have Parra, Penrith, Cronulla, Canberra, Melbourne, Parra, Penrith. They may be looking up at those in the 8 by time their bye comes around

(now watch them win 6 of them)

Halves are just out of form, they’ll improve. What they are missing is a big go forward prop

I’m sure they are banking on the talent in the young players, but some of their retention and signing decisions leave a lot to be desired. At the end of last season they lost Joey Lussick, Blake Ferguson, Michael Oldfied, Sam Hughes, Will Smith and Keegan Hipgrave. They didn’t add to the squad. Obviously some of the money was used to upgrade some players, but where is the rest going?

This year they have already lost Reed Mahoney, Marata Niukore and Isaiah Papali’i, and havent signed anyone? Again, who are they recruiting, and where is the money being spent? It’s baffling
