My thoughts exactly. Take away stump mics and this was all a funny cameo to watch on tv and then never spoken of again.

They are just young blokes. I thought smith actually handled it pretty well and walked off. Hazlewood, whatever give him a fine and he’ll laugh about it.

I can barely hear you from that high horse your on mate. They acted like frustrated cricket players in a test match.
The whole fiasco is just exasperated by the stump mics and us all saying disgraceful and unacceptable.
Please, they are young men playing cricket for their country not saints sent to appease old mate on his couch.

That’s a ridiculous thing to say before DRS like it was some magical time with chivalrous cricket players. Ricky Ponting blew up at the umpire if he had lost a few bets at the TAB the night before.
They just got frustrated. Nothing wrong with that.

Honestly I think it was nothing Steve acted like a captain should just asked him and then obviously frustrated walked off, hazlewood acted just as any other human would.
The real shame was that the whole ordeal was once again caught on the stump mics. Now players are being put under scrutiny for what they say in the field and we all sit on our high horse and say oh that’s foul language or that’s not a very nice thing to say.
It’s a game of cricket, the players were frustrated and expressed it. I don’t think they stepped over any lines, I think that umpire will chuckle over hazlewood acting tough and smith looking sad at him.
You might say he disrespected the third umpire but the fact that we can hear and judge what he’s said in a split second of frustration in a 5 day test match nearly finished is ridiculous. it places unrealistic expectations of people playin the game they love for their country.
Get over it, move past it. Great test match by both teams!!!

Love the article Ronan! I haven’t really looked at our teams experience in that detail before but it highlights how well they have done, especially with this win. Plundering runs at home is all well and good but they have proved their worth overseas.

Agree that ODIs need to be changed and given more actual direction. The real problem as people have pointed out, the roads that Australia keep producing are just plain boring.
We crucify India and England for doctoring pitches but we are just as bad if not worse. In the ashes we had two roads, two seaming pitch and a green bastard straight from the foul pits of hell.
In the Australian we had a bouncy WACA(maybe) then a whole bunch of roads that maybe cracked up on day 5. Adelaide hasn’t seen green on it in years, The latest WACA pitches have been a joke and a man without thumbs could make a ton at the Gabba on a sunny day.
Ca needs to get serious about changing its tactics and making the game more competitive at home for all teams.

I think every foul is a bit much though and there is no need to change it to 5 minutes I just believe the refs need to start actually using it. I can’t remember the last time I saw a sin bin, but I can remember all the sin binning offences every year that were “put on report” like that was some sort of punishment.
I think they should get rid of the ref putting people on report : it’s not his job and he shouldn’t worry about the effects of the dangerous tackle/foul play beyond the effect that they have on the game he is currently refereeing e.g he should sent them for ten if it is a repeat or serious offence.
The lack of respect for refs comes down to how much rubbish they let everyone get away with, they wouldnt even send Reynolds after had head higher someone then tripped another, I mean if you aren’t gunna send someone off for that you never will.

To be honest I don’t know them from a bar of soap so I’ll have to do some homework.
Paris bowled Pretty good I thought especially at the start, Boland just missed most of his Yorkers at the death so got punished, maybe it was nerves whatever .
Wish we had Lyon to throw in the mix though in those middle overs! He would have got a five fa and blown the game wide open.

That’s fair enough I just wanna see him bowl more! Any of those guys I reckon are better than Borland and Paris but I guess they are rolling the dice a bit this series.

Yea disagree with this one. Maxy has been killing it in ODIs and Marsh is a better choice than Watson ( wish he would retire from everything but 20/20).
As soon as our front line quicks are back we will have Starc, Pattinson (hopefully) , hazlewood and Lyon with Faulkner marsh and Maxy all backing up with their bowling combine that with a starting line up of Finch, Warner , khawaja smith that’s looking like a team of world beaters to me!

Pretty much I get from this comment that you just really like Gayle and maybes he’s your hero or something. But the fact is that he’s the goose and if your doubting Rogers who’s probably the best bloke in Aus let alone the cricket arena well you need to take down the posters of Gayle in your room and have a good hard look at yourself in the mirror.

Even writing those words you should have realised how good of a test match this has been! What more do you want? Glenn McGrath and Curtly Ambrose to spring back into test cricket with Warney fresh from the island and looking tan?
These bowlers are starting their careers as confident test bowlers ( for the Australians ). And for the kiwis if your telling me bout didn’t have venom or Southee didn’t bowl a tight line and Wagner didnt rattle the Aussies with his short ball foray?
