The only other nation I can think of is New Zealand. Eden Park in Auckland and The Cake Tin in Wellington both have drop in pitches for cricket. However the Cake Tin is only used for ODI’s and T20’s with the Basin Reserve the test ground in Wellington. I remember Lancaster Park which was badly damaged by the earthquake in Christchurch may have had a drop in pitch.

NZ’s grounds are mainly set up for rugby and they have smaller grounds for their test cricket which are cricket dedicated grounds unlike Australia’s grounds which are also AFL grounds in winter. The English are also lucky to have dedicated cricket grounds as with the English winter if they were used for football or league/Union the surface would be destroyed without undersoil heating.

The double standard of subcontinent pitch complaints

Leichhardt Oval in Balmain would be the prefect size and shape for Sydney FC. Not the best facility in the world but would certainly suit their needs. It holds 22k and has a great surface.

Might be something to think about………….

What about the Cronulla Sharks home ground once it has been redeveloped this year?

Why Kogarah is perfect for the A-League

As a Kings fan it was a tough defeat on Monday night. United will be there at seasons end with the Kings and Wildcats

Melbourne United are legitimate NBL title contenders

Tassie certainly punch above their weight in terms of population. It was great to see Punter win a SS!

As an Aussie Ex-Pat it makes me want to cry the level of coverage that Rugby League receives in the UK. However I will also add that most locals in London probably couldn’t name an English Rugby Club so to mention Rugby League certainly bring blank looks.

With a population of over 10 million London does have a market for Rugby League but it needs a permanent home and team!

London calling for the Wolfpack to boost rugby league

Great article. As i’m getting older (Only 34) you do realise that life isn’t fair and sport is a great reflection of that. The frustration in my cricketing career of never making semi finals made it all the more sweeter to finally win a premiership. It is a reflection on life, you will have good times and bad, learning how the handle the set backs is a big part of it.

Nobody is going to give you your dream job and you will miss out on plenty of jobs and dream partners in your life. Coming last in a school swimmer carnival is just a small but important piece of humble pie and the sooner people are exposed to a bit of ‘defeat’ the better off they will be!

The ‘everyone wins a prize’ mentality is killing kids sport

Are we playing any mid-year tests this year?

2017 Wallabies Rugby Championship draw: Australia to host two Bledisloe Cup games

If the kings can get up in both games they are starting to look the goods!

Need to win on the road though!

Loving the NBL articles.

NBL Round 8: Newley for MVP, last chance saloon for some clubs

2005 is my favorite because i’m a tigers fan. 89 my least favourite because i’m a tigers man.

In all honesty I didnt see 2015 so i can comment, but I would have to say 97 (ARL) should be the top one!

Top eight grand finals of the last four decades

Tomorrow is another day. I hope both Warner and Marsh can push on for triple figures!

Warner, Starc flex muscle at WACA

I don’t have kids of my own yet but my early memories of cricket are the best! I was obsessed with Dean Jones, I don’t know how many time i read his books and all the 89 ashes diaries! I was always deano in the backyard.

Playing under 9’s/10’s cricket was some of the best times of my life. My Dad still talks about me being under my first high ball. ‘Please god let him catch it’ was going through his head. Thank god I did. Playing with your mates and the first four or first wicket was the greatest!

The best thing in those days with the under 10’s was the fact that you batted in a pair and you had four overs. At the end of the game the number of wickets lost was put against the number of runs scored. Waiting for the parents to do the maths to determine the winner was heart breaking!

Greatest game of all.

The joy of cricket

How are the crowd numbers looking? Are they getting a good response from the Sydney public?
