Also, only 5 out of the 34 named in the NSW Waratahs 2024 side aren’t nominally from NSW. With the Blues and Maroons fielding players who don’t even represent Australia internationally. The NSW Waratahs are a rep team. Sorry had to do reply like this because it was blending it into one big paragraph.

It’s time to re-emphasise the ‘NSW’ in the NSW Waratahs

No one doubts that Sheffield Shield sides are state-representative teams when they have the same cross-state player movement as Australian Super Rugby sides. With both these structures having the purpose of feeding into a national side, selected based on ‘origin’.

It’s a bit different because the State of Origin series are the most important representative games, superseding the Kangaroos. And it’s only three games. So you select the state sides as if they were national ones; keeping in mind that when the Kangaroos were the eminent rugby league team, NSWRL and QLDRL were selected the same as the Waratahs or Reds (the majority of inter-state rugby league played under these conditions (since 1982)). Look at Steve Rogers’s career. t

Cheers Scott, thanks for the comment.

Note when I regard to New South Wales, it’s cognisant of and without the ACT Brumbies supporting regions.

Gotta be unlikely he goes, surely him and his agent are just trying to improve their position when they go to negotiate with RA during the year.

NRL powerhouse target Wallabies young gun as replacement for Suaalii

Representing the vacillating tendencies of sports fans and supposed gurus, this article espouses views that are indicative of the current form swings of the Roosters and Souths- where Souths are playing well and the Roosters are not. Sua’ali’i was the eminent rugby union schoolboy talent in a group that now consists of near-Wallabies and Wallabies, he will adjust fine and be a great player for the Tahs and hopefully Wallabies.

He is not an ‘average young player’ as is spitefully claimed, with all indications saying he’ll be playing Origin this year. Also, continuing the precedent set of using the Rl World Cup as a justification (which is a nonsense tournament), Sua’ali’i was regarded as being the best player in that most recent comp.

Evidently, Mitchell is also a good player but this article fails to mention Mitchell’s massive disciplinary record, inexperience playing union, and frankly his overweight nature. And I imagine Mitchell is not content to finish his career not winning a premiership for Souths.

Further, the contract of Sua’ali’i is for 2025, meaning that the 1.6m appraisal is for the player that he’ll be in 2025 (plus media and McLennan etc). Think about appraising the value of Marky Mark/Carter Gordon/Kellaway/Foketi/Flook two years ago compared to now. Players tend to improve over time.

If RA are happy to pay an average Joe $1.6m, how much would they pay for an actual rugby league star?
