What a contrast that was! The Roosters-Sea Eagles game was your typical 2021 blowout, while the Panthers-Eels match was a good old-fashioned 1980s slugfest.…

I think you are right that it may come down to these two Danielle. You know what you are going to get with Reynolds, and if he has a shot in golden point he’ll rarely miss. But I like your idea of a Hollywood-style ending, and for me, that says that Cleary’s time has come. If he takes control it won’t go to extra time.
Which halfback will guide their team to NRL glory?
You have analyzed that well Tony, and it is fascinating just how evenly matched the two sides are across so many positions. The media this week has all been about the ‘fairytales’ as you say, for the departing Souths legends. But they have all tasted glory before, something most players never do. For me the fairytale is the Panthers winning. There are many stories to write there, but being arguably the best side over two seasons and losing it last year wins them my endorsement.
Will the pink Panthers strike again in the grand final?
All the numbers you have crunched make for a pretty reasonable argument Tim. I agree the 50 point losses mean little now. Taking in all variables, I’m surprised Souths aren’t slight favorites.
The 50-point hoodoo is bollocks – the Rabbitohs are a red hot chance
“But they won’t. We will all be watching and that is what keeps the game alive, healthy and expanding.” True. But the expanding bit is questionable. Expanding the number of teams maybe, but when they can figure out how to really grow the game I’ll call that expansion.
Most Sydney fans dislike Souffs and Penriff, but they'll still be watching the grand final
By the way, I was referring to the fans who are choosing to follow Penrith. IMO your assessment of Souths fans is somewhat harsh. And Gagai, Walker & Mitchell are some of my favourite players. Just hoping 2 of the three don’t show us much on the weekend.
All the love for Souths: Can Bunnies claim first premiership since 2014?
Sure, but only if that is a guarantee of their resolve on the field going forward
Wests Tigers: Time for a knock-down rebuild

I know what you mean. My idea of clarity & the true reality is unsettling sometimes
Of mousetraps, the Man and David Manson: St George’s unlikely run to the 1996 grand final
There are some good ideas there DP. And this topic needs to be brought up because it seems to fall on deaf ears.
My plan to let NRL legends finish their careers at home
I really enjoyed reading that Andrew. Well done. As for solutions, it’s all too much for me. My brain hurts enough every time I think about my Dragons joint-venture
Wests Tigers: Time for a knock-down rebuild
You must mix in more illustrious and discerning company than I do. I admit from the people I speak to it’s split around 50:50. Maybe it’s just that the Souths backers vent so much more vehemently that it seems they are a majority.

A good look at both sides Joe. For me “The sheer joy on their faces when they score tries and win games is impossible to fake and it’s a wonderful advertisement for the game of rugby league” sums it up pretty well. And taunting Felise Kaufusi on the ground should be a rite of passage for all League players.
Stuck in neutral: Reasons to support – or boo – the Panthers and Souths in the NRL grand final
Thanks for the great descriptions MD. You make me want to go back and watch those semi-final victories. I wish my memory was as good as yours
Of mousetraps, the Man and David Manson: St George’s unlikely run to the 1996 grand final
You might be right. It was my guess, but I don’t have a survey to back it up.

Suli seems to be one of those players who may never live up to his potential. Good on his day but not consistent. If Des couldn’t get the best out of him I doubt Griffin will. If the cap squeeze gets tight there’re plenty of others we’d be happy to have at the Dragons.

I’m a tormented Dragons fan
All the love for Souths: Can Bunnies claim first premiership since 2014?
Correct. It’s not where my love lies. Truth be known it’s a win-win. I like both teams. But I’ll be going for Penrith.

Go the Panthers. I’ve got no problem with their approach. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

Yeah, you got me on the shoe thing

Definitely not a wooden spoon squad. But the spine isn’t brilliant. Maybe scrape into the 8. The next couple of seasons might tell us what Barrett is like as a coach. We haven’t had a chance to find out yet.
Could 2022 be the year of the Dogs?
Thanks for the read Gibbo. I still reckon JT is the hardest working player I have ever seen. He was everywhere. I’m not old enough to remember Johnny Raper but they reckon he was the same. The best cover defender of his era. JT was everywhere in defence and attack. And not a bad in the skills department either
Producing excellence (Part 2): The role of the players
Some great history retold. Well done. And the conversation about injuries, stoppages, and player welfare is bound to be big post-season.
Coaches will always bend the rules when it comes to injuries
Good tip. I hope you’re right. They deserve it
