Absolutely agree. I’d have copped Khawaja ahead of Harris – and we may yet see that if Harris fails badly this summer in the first few, but Head is the best choice at 5 now and into the future.

BREAKING: Starc survives, Head edges Khawaja as Australian Ashes XI revealed

I can only speak for myself but this is the most un-anticipated home ashes in ages

In 2006-07 I saw the swansong of the greatest team of our era
In 2010-11 I was devastated
in 2013-14 I saw 74/75 for our generation
in 2017/18 I was bored

I just hope the cricket is good, we get some pitches that do a bit and some close contests. If the series is wrapped up by game 3 it’s gonna be a long old summer.

Personally I loved the Gabba test last year. I thought it was a great game of cricket and a well deserved win for India. Our boys absolutely had that coming.

'Most talked-about series in 15 years': My Ashes preview

My candidate for best first slip would either be Mark Taylor or Bob Simpson.

Mark Waugh wouldn’t make it anywhere near a best XI no matter how many flies he caught with chopsticks

Steve Smith over Mark Waugh? Pick your best catcher – runs are a bonus!

Vote against McGowan if you don’t like it.

'Back to 50-50': Even WA Cricket CEO is now admitting Perth could lose Ashes Test

I always thought it was the voters that were the breaking point for arrogant politicians.

Either Andrews will be voted back in, or he won’t be. Your ideological guff and bias is laughable.

'Back to 50-50': Even WA Cricket CEO is now admitting Perth could lose Ashes Test

I’m inclined to agree – the thing slowing down WA is it’s laggardly vaccination rate, although I note QLD isn’t yet at 80% and doesn’t have an issue with hosting a cricket test.

If McGowan thinks there’s more votes in cricket than STRONG BORDERS then the test will be on, if not, it will be in Canberra or Hobart.

If Stokes wants advice on the best way to walk out on your teammates halfway through a tour Trott should be able to help him there as well.

Phil is just sore that no other organisation would ever want to hire him so he’d never have the chance to have this sort of conversation.

BREAKING: Furious Storm consider cutting the Cheese after controversial podcast comments

In a BBC interview shown on Saturday, Vaughan was asked if he ever made any racist comments during his time at Yorkshire. He replied: “No I didn’t, no.”

What you can take from Vaughan’s commentary on this is that either he’s saying all 3 players of Asian ethnicity who are saying he made the comment are lying, or that he doesn’t consider “There are too many of you lot; we need to do something about it” to be a racist comment.

Love to see him try and clarify this.

He’s in the squad, that is as far as we have gotten. Team gets named morning of the test mate, surely you know that

'He should not be vice captain': Warne opposes Smith call as Cummins confirmed as skipper

The only reason Head hasn’t been selected yet is because they haven’t announced the squad yet.

'He should not be vice captain': Warne opposes Smith call as Cummins confirmed as skipper

Surely not making Travis Head VC is a huge missed opportunity. Agree Smith is a retrograde step.

I wouldn’t make Labs leader of anything, dude has the temperament of a small yapping dog

The Herald Sun already killed all their grandmothers by convincing them not to get vacced or wear masks

'Extremely concerned': Paine takes 'mental health break' putting him OUT of first Test with career in doubt

Honestly, what an absolute waste of time you must be on a cricket field. I’d never write up a player for throwing a piece of equipment and hitting no-one. Umpires looking desperately for a reason to throw their authority around are the worst kind of people.

If a batsman did throw his helmet and hit a child, sure there would be consequences – for the batsman who threw his helmet! Not sure why you need to be involved in the first place.

Strange moment as SA opener's furious response to unusual Qld act earns him a talking-to

The correct view is that the result of a shield game is meaningless and as such has no decisive point – the only purpose of them is to be a testbed for players who might go onto play test cricket. In that context, both hundreds from Labs and Head are vitally important, because both players are going to be playing in the test match in 2 weeks and have some form under their belt.

Richie always said captaincy is 90% luck and 10% skill – but don’t try it without the 10%. I’m not sure Watto is all that lucky though.

Australia needs a captain who's handsome (but not too handsome): Step forward, Watto

How the ump could be certain that’s out is absolutely beyond me

NSW opener 'filthy' after copping rough decision that even Vics keeper hardly appealed for

Not a fan of bowlers bowling ten overs – you would absolutely see a game where it’s just one spinner operating non-stop from one end and possibly the same at the other, or a few bits and pieces bowlers.

I’d prefer maximum of 8 overs per bowler.

Don’t like the 2nd one, I don’t think other teams should be able to influence that sort of thing.

Don’t mind the 3rd, makes sense.

Re: the fourth

“So each team should be able to nominate two fielding substitutes that can come on at any time but are able to bat, bowl or keep.”

Should this be “aren’t” – I assume it makes more sense with that.

“Imagine allowing a fresh Jordan Silk to replace Mitch Marsh in the field with six overs to go.”

Do I have to? I don’t think it’s as riveting as it sounds. The sub rule is already being faffed around with in BBL and honestly I don’t think it makes a rats backside worth of difference to anyone’s viewing experience.

'Chaos and T20 cricket go hand in hand': Four changes T20 needs to make

1. No idea. Cummins? Smith? Head? I can’t see it being anyone other than one of those 3.
2. Paine? No.
3. Probably Wade, they’ll go for the safe choice. Carey otherwise.
4. Australian cricket has been in crisis for years, they just pretend they aren’t. Grassroots numbers have plunged off a cliff and the game is increasingly removed from everyday people.
5. Who cares. They’ll come out and get stuffed regardless.

What does the Tim Paine scandal mean for Australia? Five burning questions after captain's bombshell

100K vaccinated people will be most welcome at the MCG – it’s just the unvaccinated ones that have to stay out. What covid restrictions? Anyone who’s had a vaccine won’t have to worry about them.

I think Vas is saying the sexting is the criminal thing – not that ball tampering is a criminal matter. It’s not particularly well worded.

It’s only just landed for heaven’s sake Vas, give them some time to work out how they’re gonna spin it 😂

CA knew about this back in 2018 and still picked him as skipper anyway. What a fiasco.

Anyone else feeling like the Gabba test can just watch itself without them? I think I’ll find it hard to give a stuff about the elite level this summer. Between the money grubbing, the BBL bloating for 2 months and now this it’s hard to care much anymore.
