David’s a 35 off 15 finisher. In fact his last 4 innings total 140 runs from 60 deliveries. Just hope we don’t get all cranky when he screws it up a few times.

'Special to watch': David's demolition propels Australia to last-ball cliffhanger win after bowlers earn unwanted record

I think one of core tenets of Bazball (stupid name) is simply not being afraid to lose. You saw that in the way England and India approached their second innings. India bottled it. There’s luck involved too of course. Maybe the expectation of the Australian and Indian public on their teams is higher than the English team get from their public as well, which makes it easier to play that way. Maybe.

Bazball won’t save Test cricket - but it’s time to give ‘whingeing Poms’ overdue credit for dramatic turnaround

I understand both sides. I’m saying he should be dropped. Just asking the question. And also wondering who the next few batters in line are. Just like Marnus was selected out of the blue, they’re not always the obvious ones.

Test Mortem: Green’s golden status fading as batting unit becomes fragile, Windies need help to kick on from Gabba glory

I know it’s un-Australian not to bag Bazball but Stokes and co do allow players the freedom to fail without getting stuck into them too much. And England’s recent Test record is pretty good. It was a great Test and I don’t feel like being too harsh on Oz. Although the fact that the only change this entire series was one enforced by a retirement sort of makes me worry about depth, and India next summer. When does an out of form Marnus become a return to the Shield (a la Clarke, Punter, Tugga etc) Marnus? Probably after the 3rd Test next summer. I want to see The Wild Thing and The Rooster play a Test. Yeah I know JFM averages 22, I’m not sure I’m being entirely serious about him.

As patronising at it sounds it was genuinely really good that the West Indies won. If Australia squeaked through the emotion would have been just relief. Although if Smudge got his debut opening ton hitting the winning runs it would have been nice.

Shamar's a superstar: Windies rookie destroys Australia with all-time great spell to break 27-year drought in cliffhanger

We had a two tiered scone as our wedding cake.

West Indies playing for their future as a legitimate Test nation with memory fading of long lost Calypso glory days

You mean like Warner told Bancroft to rub sandpaper on the ball and Smith pretended not to know?

Smith's time is up: Selectors miss golden chance to look to the future with short-sighted leadership decision

Bazball mate. We gotta bazball it. We need to be 3/150 at lunch on the first day. None of this 1/85 nonsense.

Smith's time is up: Selectors miss golden chance to look to the future with short-sighted leadership decision

Problem is the Shield has been sidelined. The big gap between the halves of the season make it difficult to pile on the runs and demand selection.

Four sight: Callous critics need to realise 'something special' factor can turn Green into Australia's Jacques Kallis

Great pair of hands too Watto, just like Green.

I reckon we should have gone with Litchfield for opener.
Alternatively, a Test by Test round-robin system, comprising Smith, Marnus, Renshaw, Bancroft, Head, Mitch Marsh, Green.

'Best six batters in the country': Smith will open and Green returns as Bailey denies Bancroft rift over Sandpaper saga

Now that the Shield is squeezed in at the start and end of the season, going back to the Shield to make runs, feels a bit different to how it did in the recent past. It’s not like you can be making runs and putting pressure on the Australian XI while they’re playing Tests. You have an early bit and then either T20 or Grade Cricket. And then everyone forgets what you did in the last 4 games of the Shield season.

Test Mortem: Smith to opener an act of convenience, team shows signs of fatigue, Pakistan selectors' costly blunder

I’d like to see a punchy high strike rate player somewhere in the top 4 once Warner’s gone. It’s not essential but that’s what we’ll miss without Warner. Like for like for the sake of it can be a dangerous path to follow though. The selectors may see Harris as that kind of player, but there are doubts over whether he can consistent at the highest level.

Mitch Marsh is thriving as a Test No.6 - the selectors must leave him there

Just a headline to get us worked up.

From Bazball to Snoozeball: Aussies toil despite monster first-innings total as gritty Pakistan fight back with the bat

I don’t think Bancroft or whomever playing a few more Tests this summer will make much of a difference as to how we perform against India next year.

COMMENT: David Warner defied his critics - but he didn't prove them wrong

Warner got the big runs today whereas none of his partners did. He has basically set up Australia for victory. Yes, against a weakish bowling attack. But none of the other batters did what he did today. He both anchored the innings and had the highest strike rate.

COMMENT: David Warner defied his critics - but he didn't prove them wrong

If we could guarantee, say, 35% of our games at Junction Road I’d be all for Marcus Harris. Whomever the selectors pick from the obvious 3, they’ll end up being criticised.

Opening contenders botch golden chance to press Test selection claims but Harris bullish about replacing Warner

I find it hard to determine exactly what the establishment view is here. It seems like either side’s view can be seen as establishment here.

Johnson 'low act' branded 'un-Australian' as Triple M reinstate fast bowler despite Warner brouhaha

Long run off. Spraying it about.

‘Quite disgusting, childish, condescending’: Johnson blasts Bailey over mental health comment as Warner feud gets nastier

Us nuffies will always watch the cricket whomever is commentating. The opinion of the average, moderately interested viewer, is probably more important for the networks. And so if Haydos and JL appeal to those viewers (they’ve heard of them and they like big Queenslander and/or the nuggety Western Australian) they’ll keep commentating. Well, this is all just a guess from me.

Teflon Bailey: Johnson right about selectors being too close to players but Warner won’t be denied fairytale farewell

He’s going to give the opposition Lance in their pants. I’m here all day.

Australia Test squad: Why Morris should be rushed in for injured star, Warner gets his wish, Marsh nudges out Green

I don’t think there’s going to be many young players nowadays wanting to just focus on red ball cricket anymore, as much as we’d like them to. Maybe some will have no choice. But I can’t imagine a guy like Green being happy to be considered a Test player only.

The best thing the selectors can do for Cameron Green is to drop him from Test team … for now

Nope, sorry.

Yeah Andre Borovec is coaching.

Most people have known how good Head was. But he’s now fully lived up to that potential. Just needs to be managed a bit through all the formats. You’d think he’d eventually get a captaincy gig in at least one of those formats.
