Thanks for destroying my illusions 😂

The Australian cricket all-time great alphabet teams: Letter T

Peter Toohey was my first cricketing hero. He may have had a more storied career had an Andy Roberts bouncer not broken his jaw. He could have excelled in age where there were more ODIs, or even T20s. Coulda shoulda woulda. Anyhow, huge soft spot for Toohey here.

The Australian cricket all-time great alphabet teams: Letter T

Can only hope they’re building up to some form, as they’ve been fairly unconvincing so far.

Scrappy Aussies on the board, but questions remain with the bat

NSW, with our Australian regulars not playing (Lyon aside), wouldn’t mind a bit of Maddo right now.

Maddinson is a Test option but not in the top order

I think we need to try a bunch of different spinners over the next few years in preparation for India in 2023. That’s one of our clear weaknesses to me, Agar’s OK, he’s a really good fielder as well. But I’d like to see others, particularly some more wristies. We have to imagine that Zampa could get an injury. Then who would we pick?

Three players Australia must select to tour South Africa

It must be pretty hard coming in during the late overs in India, and having to deal with bowlers like Bumrah though. Easier said than done.

Five things we learnt from India vs Australia

Not a fan of this so-and-so can keep thinking. You’ve got to have a specialist keeper, especially in India.

Five things we learnt from India vs Australia

Handcomb’s a good call. He was very good during the last ODI series against India at home. But then Smith came back and he was out. And then Labuschagne came onto the scene.

India thump Australia to claim ODI series

Not too fussed about this loss. Thought we did reasonably well,. We’re really in the early phase of finding the right players for the next ODI World Cup in India. I’m OK with them not taking Maxwell to this series, but there was a Maxwell shaped hole in the side nevertheless. He would have given them an extra bowling option and would have been more likely to get the run rate going along. The spinners went reasonably well, but it doesn’t seem that Labu is going to offer that useful extra option, although who knows where he’ll be in 3 years time with his ODI bowling.

India thump Australia to claim ODI series

It’s about this time every season that I get a bit bored of the Big Bash. The player skills seem to dip a bit, maybe from playing too many games (maybe I’m imagining all that). The format’s weaknesses start to show and I end up switching channels as the result of a game seems inevitable. This year switching over to the Under 19 World Cup has been a great option, as you can see players of the future.

The Big Bash has big problems

It’s only meaningless if we lose. Otherwise, yeah oof defeating India away! But yes to Maxwell and Marsh for me, both give us useful bowling options as well. The next ODI World Cup will be India though so we need to have useful spin options. Wish there were a left arm wrist spinning all rounder …

Impressive India set up ODI series decider against Australia

Yeah no

Warner and Finch becoming all-time great combo

That was dominant. Even when India were 1 for 130 I never really felt they were dominating. But 5 bowlers is a risk. The Renegades will be thinking wtf Aaron.

Australia smash India in record-breaking win

Kyle Jamieson, the replacement for Lockie Ferguson, is over 2 metres tall.

Australia have no clear plan against NZ bouncer barrage

Wagner’s just great. What fitness he showed. Labuschagne looked pretty tired in the second and third sessions. After Smith fell, Wade and Head faced most of the balls and scored most of the runs. If Baby Smith scores some decent runs again today that’ll have proven valuable.

Labuschagne shines against impressive NZ attack

Yeah but will those tactics work in the second Test at Junction Road?

Wagner will use Bodyline tactics against Australia

He really needs a mentor at the moment. Someone like Chris Stuart Broad.

Jofra Archer is not the quick fix England crave

India will be over next year champ. That will be a real test.

Lyon resurgence has Australia ready for Kiwi threat

Reckon it’s a mistake trying to manufacturer a 5th bowler from a batsman or turn a bowler who can bat fairly well into a top 7 batsman. Genuine all rounders are extremely rare. They tried to do that with Watto and it never quite worked. Same with Mitchell Marsh so far. Stoinis doesn’t convince me. Ben Stokes is one of those genuines. Who knows what will happen with Cameron Green. Often bowlers who start off as really good bats end up with their batting fading away over time (Flintoff, Hadlee, the other Imran Khan). For me, KISS principle – 6 bats, a keeper, 4 bowlers. And yeah, Steve Smith was originally selected primarily for his leggies.

Australia are two middle order batsmen away from balance

I reckon we should look at Pavel Florin.

Whisper it, but Australia finally have Test XI again which picks itself

A lot of people have ago at the 6 over spells 15 overs a day (or whatever it is) for young bowlers. But it seems about right for someone like Naseem.

Leaving out Abbas cruelled Pakistan in 1st Test

Good on him. He may well have dodged a bullet by not being selected for the Ashes. Let the others stumble and then waltz right in.

Burns must finally be respected by Test selectors

One of my earliest cricket memories is that nightwatchman ton.

A tribute to Tony Mann

So Steve mate, can you give us 5 centuries thus summer? Thanks mate.

Australian Test candidates flop against Pakistan

In a year or 2 it’ll be all about Daniel Solway.

Five-way battle for two Test batting spots
