Thanks Geoff, Razor vs whoever replaces Jacques is going to be intense! Keep well and thanks to you and the other Roar writers for keeping the articles flowing, all in between different time zones. I’m sure you’ll be able to take some comfort in a great NZ campaign and have a lot to look fwd to next year.

The World Cup Wrap: France 2023 got a final befitting the host nation - imperfect, baffling and historic

Totally agree, cards are killing Union when it can least afford it, especially in Aus.. It was always going to happen in the biggest game, wasn’t it! There has to be a better solution, not exactly sure what, but I’d go with the 20min red at this point until they can come up with something more sensical.. Yep the ABs where in it up to the last second! For some reason I felt more sorry for Savea than Cane, he left it all out there..

Wow there’s a thought, wonder what pay he’s on. But outsiders struggle in Aus camp..

Exclusive: Path clear for McKellar to return as Wallabies coach despite Leicester job, Cheika's update on future

Cheers Piru, hard one for ABs and their fans, looking fwd to RC next year. New coaches and some new players all round. Hoping WR has sorted out the card system (and TMO) by then, so it doesn’t rob us of very capable players on both sides showing their stuff..

Not sure Aus rugby needs Cheika at this point, having similar personality traits as Jones. After the Arg loss the old Cheika was back, blaming the ref blah blah. Time to move on.

Commiserations Geoff and Kiwi friends on a hard fought match. So many thoughts about the WC that is doing my head in. So I’ll leave topics such as TMO vs NRL Bunker system, Union vs Soccer clock system, better protective headgear in lieu of less red cards, 20min red cards as in Super rugby, Divine intervention and disadvantaged communities, etc etc for another time. My only 2 comments then: Many of us SA supporters didn’t give Jacques Nienaber enough credit for his management, planning and being a personality foil for Rassie. Their marriage was a productive one in the end.. I was also heartened to see that on Youtube most SA fans gave proper respect to the ABs and acknowledgement that the cup was won by a cat’s whisker. The only other social media I use is Vero for photography, I’ve never used X, Twitter etc, sparing myself psychological damage from the species that hang out there! A good Christmas break to one and all.

Continuous TMO interference is a real pain for a viewer like myself. I find the NRL bunker much better, short and sweet and only when needed. But of course they have different rules. I sometimes prefer watching the RWC mini game replays, as I don’t have to sit through all the non played minutes and listen to the TMO and referee’s rehashed conversations, which is like slowly drawing nails over a chalk board. They keep restating the issue instead of getting it over and done with..

The Wrap: Wallabies are on their way home - can they please take the TMOs with them?

Hi Geoff (sorry for the late reply) , I would thought some head padding would reduce the impact force transmitted to the skull, thereby reducing the severity of the vibration? May need to add a few mm of foam to the cap. We dont want bicycle helmets on players, but new high density foams could definitely reduce transmission of knocks to the brain, and would work for the whole duration of the game. Face clashes would still be unprotected, but at least it’s something. It would reduce poster opportunities though for some of those handsome (backline) players 😊 I must say all the cards in the RWC is really annoying, in many cases purely accidental contact is being punished, influencing game flow and outcome.

Race to the bottom: Which football code can dive deepest into concussion black hole?

Re Foster’s comments about the type of game he’d like to watch and Rassie’s reply:
That’s why I enjoy watching France as well as Ireland the past 2 years. Their style lies somewhere in between NZ at full flight (albeit against lesser opposition) and SA’s grind out style at times.

Mamma Mia! All Blacks almost hit a ton against Italy to make World Cup statement as Smith scores hat-trick

No all good, I appreciate your support in the online realm 👍

World Cup quarterfinal scenarios: The Ireland vs Scotland result that would send home South Africa

The sad thing Bliksem, is that I’ll now have to give back the English prize I won in primary school 😂

World Cup quarterfinal scenarios: The Ireland vs Scotland result that would send home South Africa

I’ve just noticed that “proofread” is written as one word.. I also probably shouldn’t have used a shorthand/shortened internet style comment for a topic such as this 😂 I was referring more to some words/paragraphs that seemed out of place. I’m just sometimes surprised by errors in the headlines of even mainstream media sites etc. I suppose the articles just need to go to air, not like in the old days where an editor caught mistakes before it’s commited to paper.. No need for me to be too critical though, I’m grateful for the content that answered some of my questions 😊 I’m also curious about the rise of AI content and something in this article triggered me into questioning some of the writing.

Just wondering if anyone proof read this article for grammar etc. or if it was written by Chatgpt?

I was annoyed by Curry’s red card etc and the variance in TMO/referee decisions. Maybe the whole issue is being approached from the wrong angle. Rather prevent injury in the first place by making protective headgear compulsory for everyone, but don’t red card accidental head clashes. Some players would need a haircut though to fit a scrumcap, not sure if Faf would be keen 🙂

Nice one Harry.
BTW, I see over on foxsports.com.au, that Rugby is now listed on the drop down menu between NHL and Cycling.. Talk about being slighted and punting your existing sports roster 😂

OPINION: Four reasons Eddie's long-term deal is a bad idea for Australian rugby - and two why it makes perfect sense

Hope you had a good time Harry. Utah was a very unexpected/unplanned highlight of my 2004 US sightseeing trip. Would love to revisit Arches National Park, having recently gotten into photography.

Autumn Series Team of the Week: Four Wallabies, four All Blacks and a '1980s bouncer on ecstasy' makes the bench

Thanks Geoff. I’d stay away from Twitter boards discussing Rassie’s comments and how the ref has once again done SA in. People who’s self worth and life purpose are based on their sports team’s performance, tend to turn a blind eye to the other side of the story in question. The perpetrators (in this case Rassie) tends to succumb to “the end justifies the means”, when they are under intense pressure to deliver for their country. I once made the mistake of making some comments on an Aus cricket forum (Newscorp) which I thought were fair, reasonable and unpartisan (soon after Sandpapergate). What I said was completely misread and people told me in no uncertain terms what their feelings were about me and my origin. If one ventures into bottom feeder territory, it unfortunately turns nasty very quickly.

The Wrap: Wallabies’ inability to win the big moments a real pain in the neck

I really like Josh van der Flier, seems like a guy who just gets on with the job without drama, and is always focused. Maybe a bit like the Irish team as a whole.

All Blacks claim TRC title as Boks fall short of target against clock-killing Pumas

Hahaha 😂 Love your humour Harry, good for the heart and blood circulation 👍

Seven All Blacks, six Boks and just one Wallaby and Puma make our TRC team of the tournament so far

TWAS, can’t you just let people have their own opinion, that may be slightly different from yours, without picking their post to shreds?? I agree with the post re involving younger referees. When my son was playing AFL, a number of Saturday referees were teenagers who did a good job. To be blunt, I stopped visiting the Roar website 3 years ago, solely because I couldn’t stand your neverending criticism on people’s posts, many of whom I agreed with. PLEASE STOP! You may be correct on many things, but you are not the sole purveyor of wisdom in this universe, there are many sides to any issue, all of which should have the opportunity to be heard on the Roar. And you haven’t let up in 3 years, I came back to the Roar at the beginning of this year, but now it may be cheerio for another 3 years! I’ve just had a gutful of your incessant bickering. This blog could have been an enjoyable and informative hangout, but I just don’t have the time and energy for this type of person. Cheers…

The problem with Australian rugby

Hahaha 🙂

0-20min SA advances to Aus goal line and get scrumming.
scrum gets reset 5 times and SA get a penalty, Jantjies narrowly converts it.
20-40min PSDT almost get yellow carded for a fracas with Coleman, but Jackson wisely refrains from ruining the game
Foley kicks the penalty
Haltime score: 3-3
40-60 min: Beale puts one up for Folau who regathers and scores by out jumping Rhule and Coetzee.
60-80 min: SA gets penalty try after Aus keeps collapsing the scrum close to their line
Etzebeth runs through some fwds, offloads to Kolisi who gives back flip to Serfontein who scores.
Full Time score: SA 17-10 Aus

Wallabies name team to face South Africa: Cheika rings the changes for Springboks clash

Can’t wait for the game, may be close, even a draw!

I came across a Youtube channel with some interesting analysis of the teams and games in the RC.
I really like the 2 blokes’ tone, very respectful and fair.

I thought The Roar wouldn’t mind me posting here, if you’re reading Roar articles you’re probably a rugby fanatic and already scouring many sources for insight 🙂

Lay those decisions at Coetzee’s feet… EE dong OK and Im glad hes being forced to set an example on discipline, rather than always being involved in off the ball scuffles. WW is being missed. Talking about discipline I hope PSDT (not PTSD) keeps cool when facing Coleman, we dont need a yellow card..
