The Wrap: Devious New Zealand plot to destroy Australian rugby exposed

The Wrap: Devious New Zealand plot to destroy Australian rugby exposed

Congratulations Australia, the Wallabies were by far the better team last night. I predict the Wallabies will take home the Bledisloe Cup next week. Now leave me to cry into my Weetbix a little longer.

Nine talking points from Wallabies vs All Blacks

PeterK, Champion teams with a good culture and great coaching win more often.

Why the Wallabies were caught short in Johannesburg

Folau, a person who is paid millions of dollars per year to play rugby, wants the public to fund his legal case? I’m getting more and more annoyed as this case drags on. Australian Rugby is getting so much world media attention and publicity for all the wrong reasons. I’m over it.

Folau hoping to crowd-fund legal case against Rugby Australia

@craig dear friend, cheap shot? Please, with the utmost of respect, let me tell you that victim hood is not a virtue. Why are you so offended? Hansen also said Cheika is a good guy, everyone knows he’s a good guy, it was a joke mate, move on. As a kiwi, I would love to have Cheika around for a beer and a bbq, why? Because he is passionate about Rugby and he wears his heart on his sleeve. As a coach, this trait my not endear him to the media, but it means he is an honest man, I would love to meet him, so would all of my Aussie mates. I respect Check’s for everything he has achieved, and let me tell you he is not done yet! It seems everyone has written him off, you included, not me, not for one moment. Don’t give up on your national coach, we as a nation of Kiwis know what he is capable of, hence why we respect him, but just like all mates, he is not immune to copping some stick.

Haha what happened there? those are meant to be exclamation marks not question marks lol.

Cheers Riccardo????

C’mon fellas, it’s the Aussie way to have a dig at your mates. Aussie’s love to have a dig at the Kiwis and vice versa. My mates try to take the piss outa me every day but rest assured I can give as good as I get, we have a laugh and move on. Drew’s virtue signalling is a little bit much in my view, he should have just retorted with his own joke, have a laugh and move on.

Shag is an absolutely outstanding coach, but he’s not done yet ladies and gentleman. Bring on 2019!

Hansen to quit All Blacks after World Cup

100% agreed on this Nick, thank you.

The biter bit: Ireland wrong-foot the All Blacks in Dublin

Great analysis as always Nick. If I’m honest it wasn’t the result I wanted but a result I have accepted. We All Blacks supporters are not used to the pain of a loss, but I strangely I wasn’t upset. It was an epic test match, the best I’ve seen in such a long time, I’m sure you and many other Roarers enjoyed it as much as I did. I remember an article you posted last year just after the lions series. I think you asked the question then or propositioned “what would happen when the best attacking side from the Southern Hemisphere meets the best defensive side from the northern hemisphere” or something to that affect. You correctly pointed this out on this forum and well……. we know the answer now. Even though we were thoroughly beaten by Ireland the beater team on the night, I am not panicking. This is exactly the type of game we need to gauge our opponents, and I am glad we are not taking an unbeaten run into the RWC because any match would then be a potential banana skin. This loss was great for us in my humble opinion, now the question is; can our brains trust come up with a attacking strategy to counter the north’s defensive systems? We shall see. Oh, I have already said this on many rugby forums, but let me say again, congratulations Ireland, thoroughly deserved win.

The biter bit: Ireland wrong-foot the All Blacks in Dublin

Congratulations Ireland, you are very deserving winners today, what a great performance. Irish fans will be singing in the streets tonight. Dust yourself off All Blacks we will always be proud of you.

Coming for the cup? Irish knock off New Zealand 16-9

You a very welcome Tim.

I'm totally over the Haka

Great article Tim,
I am a Maori currently living in Queensland, my wife is Australian and I have few good Aussie mates. I love Australia and I have been here living here for the past 25 years. However, growing up in New Zealand gave me an excellent grounding in my Maori culture and it’s something that is still very dear to me and runs “bone deep” so I just want to share my perspective on the matter you raised. Is the Haka overused? It kind of seems that way doesn’t it? I do get where you’re coming from, but please allow me to weigh in on this. Please allow me to put to bed the notion that Kiwi’s perform that Haka at every single opportunity, that is a myth and is simply not true. I performed the Haka at my Fathers tangi (funeral) when I was 13 years old, at my sister’s graduation “by myself” in front of hundreds or other strangers twelve years ago. I can tell you it took me all the courage I could muster because I am a very reserved person, but there was no way I was letting my sister walk off that podium without acknowledging her outstanding achievement and letting her know how proud I was of her. Tears streamed down her face the entire time as we locked eyes “she received my message loud and clear”, it was my privilege to honour her in that moment. I also performed the Haka along with many other family members when I buried my brother last year. I am 45 years old now, that accounts for the “impromptu Haka” I have performed in my entire life. The people I mentioned above are so very important to me and have helped shape my life, not doing the Haka to celebrate the significance of the person and occasion would have been an insult.
Performing the Haka at weddings, funerals, send off’s, graduations and family gatherings isn’t a new thing, I grew up seeing this as normal, I guess with social media added to the mix and video’s uploaded to YouTube etc, we are now seeing the Haka now more than ever before. The All Blacks perform the traditional “Ka Mate” Haka before they start each rugby match which is used to lay down a challenge to their opponent which has greatly increased world awareness and appreciation. Conversely the Haka is also looked upon with disdain by some, but that’s ok, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. I must say I love it when the challenge is accepted by the other team, remember the arrow head formation by the French in the RWC final 2011 as they marched up to the All Blacks? I absolutely loved the fierceness in their eyes and pride they showed that day, they came to play and very nearly rolled us.
Another hotly debated topic last week was the English crowd at Twickenham singing Swing-Low to drown out the Haka. Steve Hansen, Kieran Read and myself share a common view on the matter, “we don’t have a problem with it, go for it”. If you are a spectator, go ahead and dance, sing, wave your flag or do the Mexican wave if you wish. Celebrate however you want to support your team because you have paid good money to be there and if singing adds to your enjoyment of the game then please do so. The challenge laid down by the All Blacks during the Haka is issued to their opponents who they are directly facing on the field, it doesn’t matter what the crowed are doing in that moment. I thought the English fans were outstanding and showed a lot of passion during that match, it certainly added to the occasion, long may it continue.

I'm totally over the Haka

Great Article Tim,

I'm totally over the Haka

Hi Nick,
I read your article in between work meetings today, such is the importance and priority I place on reading your rugby analysis whenever the opportunity arises. My apologies for not commenting on the various breakdowns you have provided of late but sometimes work and family life gets in the way. When I watched the game in the weekend, I must admit to being shell shocked as to how well England started that game, and hats off to the players and Eddie for not only formulating, but implementing an excellent game plan to counter our strengths. After the final whistle, I felt disappointed in the All Blacks performance because I had expected them to totally dominate England. However, upon the second viewing and watching intently, I realised (after the fact) what the All Blacks did to counter the many many threats that England presented. The tactical decision making in the second half by the All Blacks was truly remarkable, your analysis provided the intricate insight as to what I was seeing. Other Roarers more educated than myself pointed out the tactical adjustments the All Blacks made after half time which helped me to understand how the All Blacks adjusted to England’s game plan. So thank you Nick, and thank you roarer’s for sharing your knowledge with me about our beautiful game.

Sir Brodie takes Prince Maro off his high horse at Twickenham

Where were the Spingboks who showed power, pace, passion and pride when they defeated the All Blacks in Wellington? You can’t just be focused and switched on when playing the AB’s. The inconsistency of the Springboks performances must be very frustrating for their supporters. They really missed Faf for this match up. Congratulations England on the win.

New-look England side does Jones proud

This just isn’t funny anymore, Kearnsy is a high profile sports figure, he shouldn’t be spouting such pure and utter rubbish. Someone should sit him down to set him straight, his credentials must be taking one a hell of a beating.

Phil Kearns believes All Blacks get a 'free ride' from refs

Nothing wrong with that at all….. mind boggling decision from the red to penalise BB. “I removed my eye patch as well” for those who disagree.

Beauden Barrett proves he can do everything

Hi Geoff,
Great review, I was as shocked as any other All Blacks fan on Saturday, but our old foe stepped up on the night and brought such intensity to their tackles and defensive line speed it pressured us into making mistakes so they thoroughly deserve the win. The game kind of reminded me of Chicago, where the history between the two teams pointed to another All Black victory. But as we know, the Irish had other plans and really took it to us and created their own bit of history. After the Springbok / All Blacks game, seeing one of the players crying after that match, it tugged on my heart strings a bit because it summed up how much passion and effort they put into the match, it meant so much to them and you have to respect that. I hope the South African people are still celebrating. They have every right to be proud.

The Wrap: Dyantyi and Lavanini ‘slide the doors’ for the All Blacks and Wallabies

Good morning Geoff,
Excellent summation of the game as usual. I read on sport24 over the weekend that Rassie Erasmus has sent an SOS to the god of thunder (Vermeulen) by sending his Japanese club a formal request for Thor to be released for the Springboks upcoming fixture against the All blacks. Rassie now views this match up as a “must win” for the Springboks due to injuries and their RC campaign being derailed by the Pumas. Thor was a world breaker during the England series, he really was immense, so I am certainly looking forward to this clash, I have goosebumps thing about it, but will Thor’s inclusion be enough to stop the All Blacks juggernaut? Another thing worth a mention is that I think that the performance by the All Blacks both on the field and on the score board during the past 2 Bledisloe cup matches puts the Ireland vs Australia series into perspective. It was a great series, a great tussle between the two, and being so close made for very enjoyable viewing. I think it was you who pointed out that the series could have gone either way, so the question is; has number 2 ranked Ireland closed the gab on this current version of the All Blacks?

The Wrap: Bonus point Barrett a class above the Wallabies

@Paulo and their set up is looking a lot more polished these days.

The Wrap: Aretha, Sam, Winx and the Wallabies (spot the odd man out)

Ahoy there Nick me hearty!!!

“The flag which flutters highest on the masthead of world rugby is still black in colour. It does not have a skull-and-crossbones on it, but when it hoves into view everyone knows it’s meaning”.

Ye be a master with words Nick, any seadog worth their salt knows that when ye be talken, we pay heed.
