I’m just shocked. Shocked, I tell you. If you can’t trust Eddie Jones’ word, then who can you?

Eddie Jones set to be appointed Japan coach six weeks after walking out on Wallabies

Ding-dong.

'What a shame': McLennan GONE as Rugby Australia name World Cup-winner chairman to bookend wild year

Whoomp, there it is!

NRL powerhouse target Wallabies young gun as replacement for Suaalii

It could be noise, or it could be real. RA could have given him a contract extension like he asked (being one of the only world-class players in the Wallabies at the RWC), but they didn’t. Also, no one wants to be part of a sinking ship. RA may right itself, but the current situation looks dire. DIRE. If they put in a performance against the BIL like they did at the RWC, no one would want to be part of that.

… Aaaaaaand we may have lost Mark Nawaqanitawase for the 2025 season. Fabulous.

I watched this whole game. It was a great advertisement for the women’s game and rugby in general. There was a straight red to the Wallaroos (no bunker system) fairly early on and they played as if it didn’t happen. They even had a winger on the flank and smashed Wales in the scrum. There was good play all round, tension (it was a close match pretty much the whole way) and even a bit of biff at the end. Who could ask for more than that?

Just a bunch of hilarious chicken sandwiches.

'I'm so pissed off': Eddie open to walking away from Wallabies if it suits RA, sticks knife into Hoops, Quade

Wouldn’t Afrikaans speakers pronounce “W” as English speakers would “V”? In that case, “wit” would be pronounced like “vit” or “veet” by an English speaker, right?

England's Curry accused Bongi Mbonambi of vile racial insult - but Boks fans have alternative explanation

A agree with most of this, but I do believe there are other coaching options. The world cup means a lot of coaches are switching roles. I’m aware of the contractual side and I’m still holding out a little hope that Japan will take Eddie and RA won’t have to pay him out. But… yeah… Heaps of coaches. Problem is… I don’t think that’s the major problem. We need the system and administration to improve.

Is Eddie the enigma still the right man to lead Wallabies?

Sounds like someone we could really use. Give him a year to do his thing and make him another offer. I don’t care what level.

Raiwalui leaves Fiji job to head 'home'- but RA or Super gig not on the cards

“Watching a different code?” Seriously? If you’re going to dump on football or league, at least have the courage to call them out directly. I don’t think rugby can afford to be too smug right now anyway, given how things are going in Australia, Wales and England. OMG, rugby fans fighting. Never happened before…

Then why did Japan get eliminated?

'Heartbroken': Springboks knock France out of RWC in dramatic, controversial QF as 'key moment' highlighted

I don’t know if I’ve heard a commentator criticise a ref so harshly. For the record, I thought the final penalty was 50/50ish but I’m OK with it. It ignores a more major problem: That Fiji were denied a really obvious scrum penalty a couple of minutes prior.

'He froze': Raynal leaves Fiji skipper fuming at 'unconscious bias' but coach delivers classy response to key calls

He’d never accept it, but we’d be fools not to at least pursue Rassie Erasmus. Potentially as a DoR, if not a coach.

The three contenders to take over the Wallabies if Eddie Jones walks

Yeah I never said it was a good hypothesis. Despite all that, Japan would be smart to put in some performance clauses.

Eddie digs in as he flies home - AGAIN denying he wants to quit to coach Japan, while revealing next step

That’s also what’s baffling me. He’s ruined England, and now Australia. He’s now also openly wedging RA and daring them to fire him to collect on the severance. (As an aside: someone really needs to talk to RA about how to write up a contract). Why would anyone want him? The only thing I can think of is that Eddie had Japan on the line (or they had him) the whole time. This way he can tell them “I’m just doing this to get paid and then I’ll be coming to Japan to do a proper job.” I’m purely speculating, but that’s literally the best I can come up with. Everything else makes Japan look even dumber than RA and I’ve not seen any proof that such a thing is even logistically possible.

Eddie digs in as he flies home - AGAIN denying he wants to quit to coach Japan, while revealing next step

Maybe, I couldn’t say. I was more implying that Japan may have been aware of Eddie’s plans for a while. That he told them beforehand that he was just doing this to get paid and that’s why they should not be concerned with the results. Something to that effect. I have no evidence, I’m speculating.

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

Whether or not if was that plan from the start, at some point Eddie Jones clearly decided to hit the “eject and get paid” button. The fact the Japan took him after his performance (England, Australia, on field and off), leads me to suspect that it was at least on his mind from the start.

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

This was amazing. I’ve never seen something so blatant in my life. Eddie Jones was actually daring (effectively blackmailing) RA into firing him to because they were morons when they signed his contract. This then gave him all of the time and leverage he needed to set up another job (probably better paid) and leave on his own terms. RA are just relieved they don’t have to pay his contract out.

Now that he’s gone, I’d be interested in what people in RA and other coaches (apart from Broncan) as they no longer have the Sword of Damocles hanging over them…

REPORT: Eddie Jones to quit Wallabies and join Japan as head coach

Holy crap! How are England dropping Ford? He’s been basically their best player.

Yes, you’re right, I forgot about that. My other points still stand though.

'How much does Australian rugby want to learn from the world?': Why you've got to stay tuned into World Cup

I’m certainly not against a team in western Sydney.

'How much does Australian rugby want to learn from the world?': Why you've got to stay tuned into World Cup

It’s because RA (ARU, at the time) just lobbed a team into Perth and hoped for the best. They needed to spend heaps of cash on development (which is now, belatedly, happening) and promotion. They didn’t. Same with the Rebels. They literally made the same mistake twice. With the money coming into the game at the moment, RA has a once-in-a-lifetime chance to fix those mistakes.

This is not to say they need to neglect SYD/BNE/CAN. They need to do both of those things. Yes, it will be difficult. No, dropping them now would be a mistake. If that means that RA go under, then so be it. If they can’t manage 5 teams (NZ has 5 teams with the population of Sydney or Melbourne), they are just not fit for purpose.

Just to underline a point here. I’m not actually married to the idea of the Force and Rebels. They can stay or go. What I want is SOME TEAM(S) from non-heartland areas. It can be a club comp, the Super Rugby comp, or something else and the team names can be whatever you want.
