“Rugby gave up on that amateur ethos back in 1996. As such, paying spectators and those watching on TV have a right to expect a contest whereby the teams are matched up evenly in numbers”

Why no comment about the yellow card? The numbers are uneven then. What do you suggest as an alternative punishment. There HAS to be something significant.

So are you advocating that teams be not severely punished for breaking the laws. I say again there HAS to be a significant penalty.
Maybe 20 minutes before a replacement is allowed onto the field.

Perhaps a penalty kick in the opponents 22, regardless of where the offence was committed ? Then the non-offending team can take the three points, or go for a 5m lineout?

It's time to revamp the rugby red card ruling

I often wonder if there are any stats about how many league players, and who, come to union and made a long term success of the change. Not just a few seasons

Greg Inglis, rugby wants you

+ lots BBA and The Sherif

Greg Inglis, rugby wants you

He’s got 3 to 4 years left in him!

I know nothing about his playing days, so has he played Union before – ever. If so, how long ago was it.

Imo it looks like he knows his playing days are limited, and is just looking for the highest paid offer he can get, no matter where it is or if he is able to play and understand the game

Greg Inglis, rugby wants you

Didn’t Frisby stand in as 10 last year? And didn’t he do more than a good enough job?

KH did NOT do ok, Peter, imo. It’s no use blaming those around him, he (KH) didn’t even know what to do next, so the others can have no idea what’s coming.

As others have said, No. 9 can’t do much behind a pack like that, plus imo, the ref was somewhat biased against the Reds at times.
I doubt that Horwill is so stupid as to behave the way the ref was interpreting his actions. There was one occasion when Horwill was struggling to get out of the ruck when being held down by at least 2 Brums forwards, yet was pinged for not rolling away.

Hunt needs more time for the Reds

The ref penalised Horwill in the first half when he was so obviously trying to get out from under at least two Brumbies.
His playing of advantage was sooo one sided as well. If the Reds had one, he called it over if they got to the “line”, yet the Brums were allowed to go several metres and still no “Advantage over”. Most blatantly late in the second half when the Brums were inside the 22

Totally agree Harry, especially who was penalised and who not

Brumbies thump Reds 47-3

“Rare talent when a 5/8 can still make something out of the quality of ball he was getting.”

When KH was getting quality ball in the warm-up matches, it doesn’t take much talent to make something. Hell, even I could do it at schoolboy level in the UK

Brumbies thump Reds 47-3

Of course teams in lower divisions get smaller crowds – it’s the way of the world.

A really true fan will support their team no matter what the elevation, or not. The Reds still had reasonable crowds last year despite their lowly position.

The biggest worry is that the lower teams may not be able to afford the salaries that higher teams pay. And that, imo, is why and where salary caps become so important.

An alternate format for Super Rugby

Sick and tired of all the speculative post we’re getting these days.

This is the last one for me!

Will Genia may join Sam Burgess at Bath

Shouldn’t be after an injury enforced rest, and then some NRC game time.

Likely to be in top spirits, and hopefully form

Genia hopes to get back on track under Cheika

Now let me see, what was that word that Pauline Hanson didn’t know it’s meaning?

Could that be you TT?

What a fatuous post. Is there any team in any sport in the world that has 100% home grown teams.

OH, and “Rugby league is a gentleman’s game played by thugs, ” is wrong as well.

It’s thugs game devised by and for, and played by thugs

Who will save the ARU?

I can’t understand why the grub wasn’t sent packing straght away, just like JOC was, and for a far less offensive issue than this latest one from KB who is not half the player that JOC is when he’s played in his best position.
IMO, KB doesn’t have a “best position” these days

Heaven only knows why Cheika want’s to keep him either, although I have ot admit to only seeing Tahs play v the Reds.

The whole afair has been so badly handled by the ARU, that it wouldn’t be surprising if the IRB had words with them. But then we would never hear about that would we.

Beale: I feared for my future

” The only real interest was the novelty of seeing Mat Rogers in his first Rugby Union match after switching from league”

Jeez it must have been bad if that was the only interest.

The Barbarians: One of rugby's great traditions deserve respect

FFS, more rumour and inuendo that results from “Well it was in the paper, so it must be true. I mean, there’s no smoke without fire is there.

Fed up with looking at headlines designed to sell papers.

Twist in the Beale-Patston saga: reports of evidence manipulation

Sounds like “player power” is too powerful these days.
Primadonnas who have an over exagerated idea of their own importance and an “emtitlement” attitude.

Wallabies fixer ends as broken man

No one can make firm opinions on rumour and inuendo.

Until the inquiry is held, everything else is guesswork, and assumption.

What is Bill Pulver's role in the Beale debacle?

Typical zavos character asassination for the sake of creating controversy.

McKenzie's nationality was the only Link to the Wallabies gig

imHo, some of the main issues with RU are (in no particular order)
a) you need an IQ of more than 100 to understand the game, or be brought up into the ethos of the game – shame that NZ is the only place where this happens.
b) have an attitude that does not start with “biff rules”
c) adminstrators that understand how to market a product
d) since professionalism came in, cheats prospered too easily. Honour went out of the window when money came in the door.
I well recall an incident in the 60s when the goal post were considered out of play, and a try being denied when the ball was grounded over the line, but also touching the post. Not a murmour of protest about the denial, as the ref’s decision was respected in those days.

Good rugby folk: pull your fingers out, help save the game

It seems like QC and JOC have apparently grown up, now it’s KB’s turn.

Kurtley's 'indiscretions' a self-fulfilling prophesy

While a draw may be an empty feeling for the teams, – hell it leaves a huge amount of anticipation for the next match.

Instead of a “dead” match for the 3rd match, this second one becomes soooooo much more an excitement machine (well, for me anyway)

Stick the crap point up your jacksey – if the match is tryless, to me. that is an indication of how well and determinedly both sides were in defence.
Sooner 12-12 than 45-0 to either side.

Golden point a no-no in international rugby

NO to the so called golden point.
IMO RL is an abomination of a game, and a blight on our game.

The only thing we need from RL is their promotional “nouce”.

Golden point a no-no in international rugby

“Israel Folau was the only true standout in the backline, purely due to the amount of metres he ran (59) ”

Most of those metres were in getting up to the advantage line, because he was so far away at the back.

Wallabies forward line report cards

🙂 I’ll be supporting the ‘Saders, out of jealousy 🙂

Ode to those brave rugby souls

” McKenzie, in his first year as National Coach, predicted what they would do to the ABs that year?!”

I’m pretty sure he didn’t say in that year John W, just that they were beatable

Wallabies to cure foot-in-mouth disease

Go the Brumbies!
