On the subject of keepers… Very cheering to see a batsman/keeper having a nightmare in this Test.

Marnus Labuschagne could be the player Australia have waited for

And to recycle an old Eric Morcombe gag; “Ahhh. Cricket in England. The sound of ball on Marnus Labuschagne.”

Speaking of gags… Did anyone notice Ian Healys’ unintentional pearler last night on Australia’s bowling? “Australia has a three-speed prong attack.”. He may have been thinking of Helen…

Australia's new 'Big Three' demolish England

Frankly m’dear, I’m getting a tad bored and disillusioned by this series. Batters’ averages are close to a Darwin breathalyzer reading and team totals are more like an AFL score. This Duke ball has tilted the balance too far to the bowlers. Much as I dislike batsmen, preening, pampered sooks that they are, the Duke has reduced batting to a bit of a lottery and the event of ball beating bat to being expected.

You *still* going on about Warners’ “bad luck”?
The only “bad luck” related to Warner this series has been with the Oz bowlers.

Warner's ugly but crucial Ashes innings

lol!
The only thing you’ve got right is that I’ve definitely “learned something” from your efforts…

Australia should not fight Jofra Archer with fire

Warner's ugly but crucial Ashes innings

Not lately, and not so much him. When he was first selected the media gave the selectors a bit of a battering.

Warner's ugly but crucial Ashes innings

“Warner had played a false shot to 16 of his first 30 balls faced last night…”

As stats go, that one is somewhere between ‘grossly unfair’ and ‘pointless’, unless the definition of “false shot” is simply ‘played and missed’. Bradman himself wouldn’t have hit some of those things that Broad delivered.

And those things that the quicks delivered were interesting too. In the first two Tests they were all bowling scrambled seam and it was going everywhere. In this innings they bowled seam up and it went in the direction intended. Extravagantly sometimes. My conclusion is that the seam is *too* big on these Dukes. Maybe their construction is part of the ICCs Cunning Plan to introduce 4 day Tests?

Dan in Devon said: “Australia need to play Starc if only because he is so good at mopping up the tail.”

Please supply some evidence to support that.

Hint: If Starc is “so good at mopping up the tail” then having a career average of 28 must mean that he’s pretty ordinary against everyone else.

Archer can exploit Paine's short-ball issues

“insults”? What “insults”?
Opining that your statement is “pretty silly” is a gentle fact. Stokes *is* averaging 61.3 and your ‘ifs & buts’ method of arriving at 18 *is* “pretty silly”. What’s next? “If Burns had nicked that one he played and missed at when he was on nought he’d be averaging 7.2”.

England gathering steam, and not just via Archer

Speaking of umpiring errors… He’s bacccccccccck. Joel ‘Big Blurred’ Wilson is standing in this Test. Until he has to go for a concussion test at least…

England gathering steam, and not just via Archer

These two teams are too volatile for me to get excited over, or even interested, in ‘momentum’. Either side has the ability to lose a Test in a session.

England gathering steam, and not just via Archer

“The Pom’s only changed the rules AFTER they won the series and the Ashes.”

Possibly *well* after. I think the ‘No more than 2 fielders behind square leg’ Law wasn’t actually introduced until the 1950s.

Australia should not fight Jofra Archer with fire

Aside from that… Given that Team Oz appears to believe that Pattinson requires a long R & R break after a Test, then if he doesn’t play in T3 that’ll mean that our best quick from T1 will only play 2/5 Tests.

Australia should not fight Jofra Archer with fire

Another thing on The Emergence of Archer (TEoA):

It may, in a way, be a good thing for Oz. For some time Oz have been strutting about the world stage, poking people in the chest saying; “We’ve got the best fast attack in the world!”. Well now, with TEoA, we clearly haven’t and certain bowlers who have possibly let all this propaganda go to their heads, will now have to fully focus on their bowling to try and get some of that limelight back. Not to mention sponsors…

“bit like haddin for oz in johnno’s series in oz?”

I’ll never forget or forgive MA Taylors’ first comment to MJ seconds after MJ was announced as MotS. “But what about Brad Haddin hey?”

Australia should not fight Jofra Archer with fire

“I had a logical and well constructed answer. But you totally lost me on the ‘But let’s ignore that hey.'”

That’s an unusual method you have of drafting a reply. Composing “a logical and well constructed [sic] answer” before you’ve finished reading the post you’re responding to. Possibly even a ‘unique’ method.

Anyway, I hope that you’ve learned to add some fact to your future fanboi fictions. You know, make them well-constructed…

Australia should not fight Jofra Archer with fire

The one factual “Because” you’ve provided is; “Because when he wasn’t there for the first 2 tests their tail scored heavily?”. And this is pretty sketchy. In Engs T1I1 the last 4 wickets took the score from 6/296 to 374. Hardly record-setting. In T1E2 the last 4 took the score from 6/97 to 146. Nope, not “heavily” at all. In T2I1 the stats were 6/138 to 258. Yep, they got away there, still, one could say that with Starc they may have got to 6/258. And in the second innings of that game, no pom beyond #7 batted so the tail definitely didn’t score heavily. So *at best* the tail “scored heavily” in one out of four innings. Then there’s the small matter that of recent seasons the pom side of have batted very deep. But let’s ignore that hey. You certainly have.

And I note in your subsequent post you claim that; “…Starc also has a good reputation of getting a wicket early.”. He may have a “good reputation” for this, amongst a certain group of people anyway, but then there are other people who like to see proof of unsupported claims.

Australia should not fight Jofra Archer with fire

“Who’s our best bowler at the tail? Starc.”

Really? Could you please explain the rationale behind that assertion?

Why is it that the righties can never come up with a decent analogy or metaphor?

Rugby league dispatches from a heretic in exile

Yeah. The QCA literally went beyond the pale by allowing Usman to don the Baggy Maroon. It’s perfectly ok to let Saffers like Kepler & Marnus in, but they absolutely should have drawn the line at Usman. Didn’t they know that he’s one of ‘them’? You know. A Blue bagger. [fx: spit]

Australia must drop David Warner

Crikey! Players today are such sooks. Warwick Todd never played a Test without dizziness and headaches.

Actually, the last time it happened was the 1st Test in this series. I forgot Usman K.
