What are the reasons behind Australia's loss against India?

Kopa Shamsu said: Terrible fast bowling by a typical fast bowling cartel

Absolutely.
And it’s (almost) curious the way that 95% of the blame for the loss has been aimed at the m-o of Carey, Turner & Agar while less than 5% has been accredited to two “superstar” fast bowlers whose contributions in the last two games were; 10/53/0, 7/64/0, 10/78/0 & 9/56/0. I can’t imagine why there’s such a disparity…

anon,

Are aware that Langer *isn’t* a sole selector?

And yet you expect other countries to tour Oz. Interesting.

@Chris Kettlewell:

Well and good. But it’d be disingenuous to omit that Sharma’s partner was going at 97.8 while Marnus was @ 84.4.

@Mickey

If CA didn’t think it was important why should anyone else?

I’d have Agar or Swepson ahead of Zampa as they’re better all-round packages. (a)

(a) Zampa has yet to win a BoG in his 51 ODIs

Five things we learnt from India vs Australia

I don’t think we learned anything from this series. How could you from a ‘tour’ which consisted of three entirely meaningless ODIs played in a week and where the Oz players cricket preparation consisted of either playing 5 Test series or some BBL tedium? I suppose their acclimatisation consisted of eating Indian and watching Slumdog Millionaire on the flight over.

The only thing I have learned is that there’s a Murdochian Climate Change-genre campaign currently on. ‘MAXI WOULD HAVE WON IT!’ type nonsense put forward as a distraction from the possibility that certain Oz players aren’t as great as we are continually told they are.

Speaking of going slowly… How many games in a row is it now that Smith has absolutely crawled out of the blocks? (Iirc, it may well be since he got sconed in the Ashes. Will research.)

Impressive India set up ODI series decider against Australia

Hopefully now I have explained myself, I’m not the one that looks silly

Yairs, well if your opinion is that Zampa “has the wood on Kohli (78)” then why didn’t he get him out cheaply?

And of course, it is unprecedented in the history of cricket that a player praises an ordinary opposition in the hope that they continue to get picked. It is this type of honesty that makes our game so special.

Impressive India set up ODI series decider against Australia

“Zampa looms as a fine option for the next World Cup, although the same cannot be said of Agar at this stage. After doing a good job in the first match, the left arm spinner was a weak link for Australia last night as he took 0-63 from eight overs.

With career figures of nine wickets at 59 from his 11 ODIs, Agar is yet to find his feet in this format. “

Curious how sometimes a players’ other skills, ie batting & fielding, are included in some people’s selection formula and other times they’re not.

@Sgt Pepperoni.

re “spin early on” next game. I wonder what the chances are of a bunsen with an Ashwin + 1 recall?

Hmmm. That’s a new one. What’s the umpires signal for virtue?

You’re not very bright are you. It was precisely for doing nothing that he got suspended.

Yep. He hit a Bumrah outswinger so well that even the bowler applauded.

Quickies:

* Finch’s captaincy was excellent. India could have run away with it but he kept calm, put fielders in the right spots and made his bowlers moving targets by constant switching them.

* Every time that BJ, Skull & MEW spoke, they weren’t shown. Is this something to do with the BCCI contracts? Or did BJ have an embarrassing cold sore?

* The comms from the ground were terrible. Worse even than the old Nein brigade. Endless discussion amongst the locals about who should be in and who should be batting where, while the imports, the babbling Slater and the dull Hayden, may well have had electrodes attatched to their wobbly bits which were activated unless they regularly told everyone how wonderful India is.

* The bowlers: Thought Cummins and Agar were the pick, with Agar doing a reasonable GoaT impersonation by relying more on the vertical plane than the horizontal. Starc was his usual Rocks and Diamonds, Richardson did well enough as did Zampa, although as the worst batter & fielder in the XI on this form Agar is the far better option.

* Carey kept unobtrusively and looked tidier than I recalled.

* Kohli remains a combination of ham actor and spoilt brat. His performances over some umps decisions were hilarious.

* Marnus is a complete waste of time as an ODI player.

The majority isn’t always right you know.

Australia smash India in record-breaking win

The Big Question about this series is; Is this the most meaningless DOI series that Oz has ever played against a major country? Given the preparation for it, I’d vote Yes.

Indian rookies ready to take on Australia

Good piece Dane. And you’ve got a decent memory; “and gully fieldsmen for Shane Bond as he bowls at Damien Martyn…”. lol.

Australia playing somewhere else in summer is a constitutional breach

What did you expect after Sutherland decided to fill the Board with business types?

Australia playing somewhere else in summer is a constitutional breach

“This is a very perceptive piece…”

Others may opine that it’s a desperate piece of fanboism.
Anyway, it is an indisputable fact that Smith is now under real pressure. Another series like Pakistan and he’ll fall behind Adam Voges as Oz’s highest averaging non-Bradman…

In Marnus' shadow, struggling Smith has still contributed

“Anyone suggesting that is reading the play with a suburban 5th grade cricket mind.”

Australia and India are clearly the two best Test teams

“and India is bullying Australia?”

Monkeygate
Refusal to play at the WACA
Refusal to play at the Gabba
Refusal to play d/n Tests
Refusal to use DRS

hth

Australia and India are clearly the two best Test teams

And next summer looks like India will bully CA once more. There are 4 Tests v India and one v Afghanistan (Which apparently doesn’t count for the WTC), so I’ll fearlessly predict that India will refuse to play at the Gabba, again, leaving Qlders to pack the Gabba to watch mighty Afghanistan. Bah.
