I don’t know whose mob is in worse shape. King Charlie or King Gutho…

Speaking of The Guth… I noticed that when he was lying down and clutching his leg, not one team-mate went over to see him. Hmmmm

'We gave up': Under pressure Arthur rages at 'part-time footy team' Parra as undermanned Dolphins run riot

The refs are auditioning for SoO…

'Both were really clear': Roosters in a rage over ref's contentious calls as Storm win on the back of two dubious tries

…if the bunker can’t see an infringement at real speed then it’s not one.

Ahhh! I remember when Gould used to routinely bray this… So you’re in pretty ordinary company 😁 I’m afraid that technology has killed this silly pov stone dead. Can you imagine the volume of wailing, squealing and gnashing of teeth if a match-winning try against the Chooks was later found to have been incorrectly awarded? The Eastern suburbs gutters would be overflowing with coffee spilled from outraged cafe table-banging.

Moral: If it can be seen to be an error than it is an error.

'Both were really clear': Roosters in a rage over ref's contentious calls as Storm win on the back of two dubious tries

Over reliance on the cross field kicks. Jeez it got boring.

Amongst a pile of other negatives. Aside from all of last nights’ tries coming from kicks, there were about half a million bombs as well. Borrrring. Let’s drop the value of tries scored from any kick to two points. Get more skill into the game and less two metre wingers.

Q. Would Kerry Boustead get a first grade wing spot now?

'Both were really clear': Roosters in a rage over ref's contentious calls as Storm win on the back of two dubious tries

The Chooks could lose 60-0 and they’d *still* whinge about the ref…

the NRL needs to get tough and simply ban any public comments about the refs by any members of a Club.

Go to the root of the problem and get a permanent solution. Get the decisions right.

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

I always got the feeling that Broncos had powerful media support.

As *all* of ‘our’ TV networks, and Foxtel, are HQ’d in Sinney, *and* just about all of our print media is owned by the Murdochs (including the enfeebled, ‘local’ cage-liner, the Courier-Mail for about 40 years), I don’t know why you have that feeling.

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

I agree with you DPS. There is definitely a bias towards “big clubs”, but only big Sinney clubs. The Broncs get as much sympathy in ‘our’ media as Clive Palmer does in Townsville.

I find the whole obsession with run metres a bit too American/NFL

Agreed. And it’s open to abuse. Who doesn’t recall wondering why a certain slow Sharks forward used to position himself to return kick-offs?

One thing that I would like to see pinched from the NFL is the “roughing the passer” rule. Yes, the Yanks really only have one passer in their variant, but our game can only be improved by not having skilled players taken out by ‘accidents’ (sneer) like the Walsh/May episode.

Oh. And the other thing we should pinch is their commentary formula. The Fox crew are bellowing and biased buffoons who are solidly stuck in the 1980s.

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

“…say Broncos and cop a hiding”. Really? And exactly who is handing out this “hiding” DPS?

I think you mean “whinged flight” Tony…

NRL Round 6 Talking Points: Concussion sub needs a fix, learning about 'disruption', why does everyone hate Gutho?

Re Gutherson… I’d opine that the *dislike*, not “visceral hate”, is because he’s an ordinary player but a 1st class figjammer. Nobody has that many hairstyles without being a fair way up themself.

The only criticism I’ve ever seen on Jurbo and rep teams is when he’s overlooked

The same criticism that was heard whenever Mitchell Pearce wasn’t picked? ie Maroon-flavoured…

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

You don’t think that, “…as a Manly fan…” you can be wholly subjective on this?

Anyhoo, I’m upset at all this angst and disagreement coming my way, so I have a confession to make. Stuart T was desperate to take some heat off himself for his ridiculous choice of Kikau as ‘Most Over-rated’ (Did he get MoM last night?) and so he offered me some coke & Thai ‘masseuses’ to nominate Jurbo. Well, what could one do? In truth, I actually believe Jurbo is a fine player and would have little trouble in getting picked in a Qld Cup side.

…that’s about half the comp then?

Yep. I’m trying to counterbalance the Fox comms profligate use of “He’s a superstar of our game…” et al.

The Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, a drunk & a universally loved Manly player find a $100 note…

Don't believe the hype: Why did Bulldogs fork out big bucks for the most overrated player in the NRL?

Kikau the most over-rated player in the comp?

That’s a big call given there’s such a sizeable field of contenders. Tedesco (esp last season), Brooks, The Fox, Wests Tigers and a shedload more. My vote goes to Jake Trbojevic. That he’s played a dozen or so Tests is indicative of the alarming shortage of Oz eligible props.

Browned off?

Oh come on TB! There hasn’t been a “Rookie Journo” pecking out RL stories since AI stopped wearing nappies…

NRL News: Wighton says 'sorry' Latrell has burning desire after Gus raises retirement call, Annesley refutes hip-drop critics

If Mitchell doesn’t get serious and Souths eventually decide to punt him, even though League loves a redemption story, what other club would sign him?

Incidentally… I read in today’s ESRL Newsletter, (aka The Sydney Morning Herald), that Mitchell and Radley are now joint record holders of the ‘Most Sin-binned Player in NRL History’ title.

NRL News: Wighton says 'sorry' Latrell has burning desire after Gus raises retirement call, Annesley refutes hip-drop critics

NsS. There’s a reason, well, several shedloads of reason actually, why it’s been known as the Jokediciary for decades.

NRL News: Wighton says 'sorry' Latrell has burning desire after Gus raises retirement call, Annesley refutes hip-drop critics

It’s been nauseating watching ‘our’ media trying to present Mitchell as a future Beetson while it’s been blatantly obvious to some that he’s a spoilt & lazy grub.

For the uninitiated, ‘Bazball’ is the nickname given to England’s approach of ultra-aggressive batting at all times…

Didn’t the Walker brothers (the ex-NRL players, not the singers), win a QRL premiership with Ipswich(?) by playing an attack-at-all-times policy?

Why desperate Rabbitohs need to adopt NRL's version of Bazball - it's a guaranteed win-win situation

Yep. They like doing things in reverse down there. Their footy umpires frinstance…
