This would have to be the most stupid decision the APL has made in their short history. Even trumps the APL signing with Paramount + for the next 5 years.
The goons running this competition have no regards for the integrity of the APL
All it does is demonstrate the greed of the APL who are selling their souls, they must be desperately looking to increase revenue.

'No one wants this s---': Backlash to Barca coming Down Under as A-League clubs hijack their OWN Grand Final

Simple reason for the ” lack of people watching”!
– The AL has 5 of 6 games stuck behind a paywall, that is sub standard as a viewing experience
– Paramount has a (Aust) streaming market share that is so low it will never grow the game or engage new fans
– Ch 10, they’re effort in promoting the game is laughable.
– If Keep Up is a replacement for the original AL website as the “primary” go to site, again laughable.
It’s not Rocket Science!

The A-Leagues are on fire, so how do we get more people to watch?

Great night of Football, well done to MV.
Victory is once again propping up the A League in terms crowd support and viewers. If the other teams don’t start getting the numbers at games and eye balls on Ch 10 ……… it will be all for nought.

The FFA Cup final was a powerful reminder of what makes football so unique

Hard to find news about the weekend results……. multiple news outlets not reporting ALeague in their sports section.

The A-League Men's teething problems are nothing that can't be fixed

In case you missed it or choose to ignore it…………..the F in AFL is Football. Soccer is soccer.

What my mother taught me about football

Fox is run by a bunch of clueless, AFL, league, cricket tragic’s who are as insular as the sports they promote. They have let football and rugby die on the vine.

Chris, blaming a pay TV provider for football’s challenges does not cut it………..get real.
Pay TV partnerships are very successful all over the world in many sport & codes.
Football in Australia has had a 15 year deal with Fox that has run its course – that footballs fault for not delivering the ROI, its a 2 way deal ie Win/Win or move on..

Simon Hill's departure from Fox Sports leaves a gaping hole

“and they certainly don’t control ACT government decisions on arrivals from Melbourne (the cause of their second delay).”……………..
1 phone call would have alerted them of this outcome.

Three A-League clubs stuck in Victoria after border closes

Well written piece Vic MVFC………………Football needs more walk less talk to realise its potential. There’s enough intelligent people throughout the codes corporate ranks, however the biggest impediment is so obvious ……………. everyone of them need to park their egos and start to develop a unified approach in governing the code.

The football community is its own worst enemy – but it doesn't have to be

Jamesb…….. An in-house subscription service will not work. A League/FFA would have to buy/rent equipment and cameramen, allocate national transport for each game, have access to studios and pay commentors to work at each game. etc etc. The whole production is a massive excercise which would just not be feasible.

Goodbye A-League. It was fun while it lasted

No wonder you have an alias identity……….you attack me ( and others) because I “ridicule, attack or sneer”………..and you’re response to me is to “ridicule, attack & sneer’……….. You’re not a deep thinker are you?
No contribution to Mike’s article “Should the A-League still be on tonight?”
I guess you have an opinion but maybe its not popular, so better to deflect.

Should the A-League still be on tonight?

As sad as it is, the game is up for everyone, end of story.

If either the A league or the NRL play anymore games, they’re morale and safety obligations will be viewed poorly.

Shut it down now or it will be shut down by government.

Should the A-League still be on tonight?

What about the arrogance of the NRL & A League?

AFL season suspended due to coronavirus

Just breaking……. Wellington will not travel to Australia this week.

Stuck inside watching Australian football: A coronavirus diary

Glad you take such comfort from that information Chris……….doesn’t change anything, A League is still a basket case.

How much trouble is the A-League seriously in?

Totally agree Winnie..
The appetite for A LEAGUE is minimal except for the rusted on fans. Their allegiance is more about their love of soccer.

How much trouble is the A-League seriously in?

The soccer folk are too busy banging on about code wars rather than actually watch a World Cup qualifier. Says it all.

The code wars are here, so let's have at it

Chris, good point, I concur. One does not ignore important & relevant issues or news.

But yes, ignore Code War rubbish if you can, not an issue and not relevant unless you listen to Simon Hill.

Have a good day.

The code wars are here, so let's have at it

Tuckerman’s gone fishing again……………and he’s caught plenty ( football tab fish )
You guys take the bait every time, you’re a genius Mike……………… I can hear you laughing from here.
The only code wars happen on the Roar football tab, a total old, tired non event any where else!

The code wars are here, so let's have at it

4 FIFA WORLD cups…….apart from 2006 – Socceroos were making up the numbers.

Where to next for football in Australia?

Sydney is the city of big wallets and no heart – when it’s measured in the depth of cultural maturity, Sydney is childish and has no idea. it even had to lock out people from bars early morning to save them from themselves – seriously??
If you come to Melbourne Punter you wouldn’t last 1 day – too diverse and culturally mature for you Sydney folk.

Have we all just given up on the A-League?

Agree, seems like the right man for the job. A long haul though given the state of play in the commercial sense.

When football, Thomas Deng and sports rorts collide

No good whinging about soccer’s lack of financial clout, the administration of it and the whole soccer fraternity have to lift its game – way behind in “sports business acumen” department compared to most other codes.

To be fair though, soccer does not deliver the ROI to business and advertisers ……………… so it gets what is can, not much.

When football, Thomas Deng and sports rorts collide

Winter football…………….
It would be a huge decision but one that is necessary. Football would not lose or even increase its attendances – Status Quo in my opinion, might even reverse the downward spiral .
However the alignment to winter football with the NPL and other competitions is a good thing and makes the pathway to Pro Rel easier ( if it ever eventuates?)
I’ve always said ……….football looked to get clear air by going to summer – a total misnomer an a stupid idea, there is no clear air on the sporting landscape in Australia.

Caceres backs A-League winter switch

It’s a race to the bottom between football and rugby.

The Melbourne derby showcased the best and worst of the A-League

Why do A League clubs aspire to owning a stadium, sheer madness! Its not like they’re rolling in money and nor will they fill them.
All that is needed is a collaborative arrangement with existing infrastructure………… i.e. AAMI

All quiet on the Western (United) front
