The Boyd contract is front loaded too, which will only help the Dogs.
The Western Bulldogs are finished for 2017, but are still the best-buy low candidate in the AFL
Good comment, Darren.
The endurance aspect is something Mick Malthouse raised this season, Jones always had the burst of speed, just struggled for long periods.
Jones has always been a chest mark first type player, often it gets him into trouble where a use of outstretched arms would be the better option.
Liam Jones is the best story of the 2017 AFL season
Although they wanted Jones to stay, I’d say the Bulldogs would be happy with a cup in the cabinet while still working out key position posts.
Liam Jones is the best story of the 2017 AFL season
While Jones’ story pales in comparison with Hogan and Roughead, which can never be matched.
I was purely looking at it from an on field football career sense, where both Hogan and Roughead have already established themselves. Jones hasn’t, maybe that was lost in the piece.
Liam Jones is the best story of the 2017 AFL season
It was the right result the first time around and the right result the second time.

Good read, Chris.
Agree with a lot of it, problem you have is that Origin is rated more highly than the NRL competition. Players – and you hear them talking about it – would rather rep their state than win a NRL Grand Final.
Changing the mindset among players and fans is a different beast all together.
Time for a State of Origin rethink
I would suspend Hill for the season. Disgraceful.
Canadian Football League 2017: Week 3 talking points
Unfortunately, professional athletes need to block this stuff out and continue with the game. It isn’t the country leagues.
Saying that, does depend on what was said to Oliver, which might have raised the reaction.

Tigers are in the best position they have been in for a long time. Won’t be going anywhere.
Here's my take on NRL expansion
Still not sure if Bucks is truly to blame, the players like him and they play for him. First job for a coach is to find that in a playing group.
Some games you watch and notice how well setup the Pies are, then it falls in a heap. Bucks is a great talker and communicator. Seems like a decent enough coach, but you can’t coach basic skill errors and poor decision making. In saying all that, Bucks and the selection committee have made some questionable choices week to week. Bucks I suppose is partly to blame, but I think there is a lot more to it than that. But it all does stop with the coach.
Pies have talent, and in my opinion shouldn’t be as low as they are.
Six quick takes from AFL Round 16
Won contested ball, won clearances, lacked any real polish going inside 50. Once it was in there, wasted chances all night, where the Crows punished the Dogs.
Makes one wonder how much the reshuffle of assistant coaches has hurt the Dogs? Smith now in development role, where he had the defence one of the best in the comp last season. Gia not a forwards coach anymore, the list goes on.
There are a lot of issues with the Dogs, and with some older players most likely to move on, their structure will be tested also.
Time to question Bulldogs: coach Beveridge
Always an interesting discussion, probably never a true definitive answer.
Personally, I would throw Rod Laver well and truly into the mix considering his major tournament achievements.

Interesting stats there, Cats.
Melbourne needs a second stadium, or teams need to revert back to there home grounds, even though that might seem a big stretch.
If North or any other team was pulling 28k to a game in a smaller boutique stadium crowd size wouldn’t be an issue. Teams would be making money, stadium would look full and the media would be saying how great a crowd of 28-30k is. Much like the setup in Geelong.
A lot of teams would be envious of Geelong, as a supporter of the Dogs living in the region, I know I am.
Why Kangaroos shouldn't make the hop to Tassie
19 wins for the season, the same as many other premiers in seasons past. Four straight finals wins and two of them interstate, but yep, they did a Bradbury.
Such lazy analysis of a terrific season for the Dogs. But oh, it was the umpires…
The 'hangover' Dogs can still save their season
Another post involving the CFL, love it!
Glad to know there are more CFL fans out there.
There are rivalries and then there’s Calgary-Ottawa…
Good piece again.
Only had the chance to watch the game at Mosaic Stadium, glad Winnipeg won, they got shafted from the command centre.
Canadian Football League 2017: Week 2 talking points
Football needs to stop looking at overtaking AFL, and instead focus on becoming the best league it possibly can.
Five things football needs to achieve in order to take over AFL
“Ever since Italia 90’, stadiums across the league have remained the same, resulting them into being very old and decay. This has resulted in attendance numbers plummeting to new lows which harms clubs financially.”
The biggest issue to dropping attendances across Italy are not due to stadiums, but more to the fact attending a game became untenable.
Case in point being the introduction of ID cards.
England? Spain? Italy? Germany? What really is the best league in the world?
