Favourite Son 23 man squad

For a bit of fun and to create some discussion, I have put together a list of 23 recent players who were blessed with the opportunity of donning the candy stripes of the greatest district rugby club in the combined Sutherland and St George area, the Southern Districts Rebels.

Essentially two new sides makes it 2 Mitre 10 sides each which sits well. Financially it could be difficult though. Could look like this.
Northland and North Harbour
Auckland and Counties Manukau
Waikato and BOP
Hawkes Bay and Manawatu (The old Central Vikings)
Taranaki and Wellington
Tasman and Canterbury
Otago and Southland

Agree that one new side would be feasible though. Maybe between Taranaki, Manawatu and Hawkes Bay

Momentum clearly building behind trans-Tasman solution

Watched this match on a small TV on Melville Island and missed the first 5mins, thought I had missed the first half when I saw the score. Was peak Bledisloe era.

Looks like someone’s had one heck of a shotgun breakfast. That looks like someone just emptied the scrabble tile bag.

Australian rugby successfully self-quarantines against the Kiwi success virus

It was a pretty sarcastic thumbs up mate.

Australian rugby has its problems, but Raelene Castle was not one of them

Agree, especially after admonishing others one paragraph earlier.

Australian rugby has its problems, but Raelene Castle was not one of them

“Unfortunately I suspect that few of the respondents on this site have little if any information about what has really been happening at RA headquarters. But in typical Roar fashion don’t let any facts interfere with what we ‘know’.”

“Without knowing the facts of the matter I think it is entirely possible that Ms Castle was asked to apply for the job, on the basis that appointing a woman would raise the profile of the sport and further the ARU’s credentials as an inclusive organisation.”

Not sure what a new CEO will achieve differently from the positive steps that were already occurring.
The ‘clear air’ might just see the next person benefit from these foundations and take all the credit.
Very disappointed with how this has panned out, but it’s done now and the game has to move forward, it can’t wallow any longer.
I cannot see a new CEO being appointed any time soon though when there is no money for them. Plus they still have to negotiate a broadcast deal. What a mess.

Raelene Castle resigns as Rugby Australia CEO

A lot of angst at the governing body of Cricket and other sports at the moment also. Plenty of self interest around.

Raelene Castle resigns as Rugby Australia CEO

Joe Roff, Mark Gerrard, Joel Wilson, Matt Giteau, Clyde Rathbone, Stephen Larkham, George Gregan, Mose Tuiali’i, Richie McCaw (c), Kieran Read, Victor Matfield (c), Bakkies Botha, Werner Kruger, Derick Kuün, Gurthrö Steenkamp.

I want that Blues front row, but could not leave out a back row containing Read and McCaw, so the Bull front row got the gig over their back row. Bakkies and Victor was the best and most balanced second row pairing I’ve seen. That Brumbies backline was class.

The Super Rugby Championship XV challenge: Now we’re all in

Not sure, was just clarifying who went bust. Agree many organizations are having a tough time. I hope everyone gets through it.

How rugby can make ground on self-imploding NRL and AFL

Rugby USA has filed for bankruptcy, not the Major League comp. They are different entities.

Yes you and Ben are both lazy generalists. Glad you agree.

Rethinking Super Rugby in Australia

No it says a lot about you. Instead of addressing Ben’s comments, you extrapolate it to a whole nation. Again.

Rethinking Super Rugby in Australia

Congrats on your article, of all the national club models proposed, this is the best one I’ve seen for including non Bris/Syd areas. However it’s a no from me for all the reasons Jez has pointed out. The NRC is the best national model and NSW appears to have finally got their structure right.

Give Super Club Rugby a crack?

😂

How the Kiwis ruined rugby for Australians

All good Geoff, I just read it differently. Rightly or wrongly, looks like most of his anger is to RC’s predecessor and Clyne, but doesn’t see there would be any discernable difference between RC and PK to change their situation. Hence they wouldn’t be cheering on PK’s appointment from the sidelines.
Your two points may be how he feels, but it’s not what he said in this case. Anyway, that’s too many points.

The Wrap: Rugby’s ugly in-fighting just got uglier

Yes you are correct, that is Geoff’s point. It is not EFF’s, which is my point.

The Wrap: Rugby’s ugly in-fighting just got uglier

Geoff, EFF didn’t make either of those assertions. My take was that it doesn’t matter who the jockey is, they would be in the same situation.

The chicken of the cave.

Is the time now right for the reunification of the rugby codes?

I’m sure it probably would if that ever was to happen.

It’s like he had his eyes closed as he scrolled past a few of the earlier comments.

So it’s not only your name you can’t get right. 👍
