Dave Rennie has come out and said the the group unanimously decided against doing it. Not to fussed with DHPs comments as he just answered a reporter’s question without notice.
Would love to see the Wallabies do some publicised clinics in remote communities. I believe it is not only more symbolic, but also productive.
The Wallabies taking a knee is a matter of conscience
A good account here:

The Wallabies taking a knee is a matter of conscience
I know, that’s why I questioned it. 👍

That’s one interpretation, then there’s the actual history of it. You’re also doing plenty of wielding yourself.

I think he’s talking about this, but I don’t see where BLM were involved:

I’ve already suggested the Seekers song as an inclusive option, but agree we can do better than the status quo.
As for white men, according to my detailed poll, doing someone elses work for them, with fully disclosed results, they rank very low in the discussion. Turns out to be a lazy cliche.

You think the term “identity politics” is a right wing creation, seriously?

ok

Some do

Same as reverse racism, can’t stand that term.

Ok finished my straw poll. You have a view, I have a view, others have a different view and different reasons. I’m not here to convince anyone of anything as it is evidently clear that social media is not a productive place for these discussions, already I’ve seen a lot of one sided, incorrect statements in this thread. Obviously some people use news as confirmation of their bias.
However like I’ve said from the start, it is a complex issue and to simply write it off as mediocre, middle aged white guys is embarrassing.

No idea, which is why I thought it was a complex issue. Can be interpreted many ways and many have different views on it.
As BennO points out, this isn’t Wallabies driven, just a reply by DHP to a question from a reporter.
This has just been an unnecessary distraction as I’ve seen opinion pieces from both sides proclaiming why it is wrong or right.
The wallabies have made it quite clear they are inclusive and the jersey is another positive step. As I mentioned elsewhere, the reporter has created an issue when there wasn’t one.

I didn’t know that was the default assumption of taking a knee. I thought it would be more a protest about something specific.

Not on board with the harassment but yes people can express their opinion, as long as they keep it at that.
Well done to the ABC journo, creating a story that didn’t exist. In that case I have no issue with DHPs response.

Fair enough, can’t stand those leading questions by media.
As for the criticism, as far as I can recall it was across the board.
I’m all for positive change, unfortunately since the rise of social media, the levels of divisiveness has risen also. It’s honestly depressing.

Agree that they will still be criticised, most likely unfairly, but at this stage I’ve got no idea why they are proposing it. As for the ‘opponents’ I agree there is a great number that are disingeneous, however there are a number of valid reasons also. I supported Kap, but felt uncomfortable when it evolved into black players coping criticism for not doing it. Unfortunately there are not enough people mature enough to discuss these issues productively and the social media sewer takes over.

That’s the thing about taking a knee, unless you communicate what you are doing it for, it can be interpreted incorrectly. All that has been said so far is that they haven’t ruled out taking a knee. We don’t know the why yet.
When the indigenous League players didn’t sing the national anthem, they did it for personal beliefs that it didn’t represent them. I supported them and believe they were unfairly targeted for criticism. Especially since they didn’t advertise it, only answered questions when asked.

Was more talking individuals, but agree in general. Many other actions don’t appear to attract as much criticism. Maybe it is a bit more complex than some think.

Something like this maybe:

That you get criticised if you don’t do it.

Maybe expand your intake. I’ve read plenty of those also but disagree with them as they are also simplistic embarrassing takes.

I actually agree that the national anthem should permanently have some first nations language in it, doesn’t mean that I agree with the kneeling. It’s a complex issue with many valid viewpoints from a lot of angles. To simply write it off as mediocre, middle aged white guys is embarrassing.

Against Aus yes. Against teams like England no, they have better breakdown exponents.
As long as we get consistency I’m relatively happy.
How Dave Rennie’s words came back to haunt him at Eden Park
Fitzy has done a similar story. I think the make up of the Wallabies players and coaching staff is evidence of the stance against racism.
More needs to be done to interact with first nations people, but that says more about RAs inability to interact with the greater Australian population.
