Christine Doran, interested to know your reason for selecting Carter over Noah. Carter played well, but Noah ticked almost all the boxes. Cheers.

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

that would be interesting to know.

Brumbies shut down talk of following Rebels into voluntary administration

WHY are ex-players running the business side of the game? I don’t think they have the skills, knowledge, expertise and connections to negotiate broadcasting partnership or any other major business endeavour. What they should be doing is hire a proper cooporate people and focus on selling tickets and merchandise!

Leaked document says RA out to 'destroy Super Rugby' and 'turn members against each other' as Rebels' pain comes to light

While Caberra market is small, I believe it offers much more than what the larger unions can. It has a successful production program that likely is cheaper to run. Their operation costs must be much smaller than NSW, QLD & MLB but their output is higher and of better quality (players & staff). So if you get rid of a quality component of Australia’s rugby production, it could have a bigger impact than trying to merge for the sake of saving $$$.

RA should go with someone else as HC and add some of our current SRP coaches as assistants and specialists. We need to develop coaching too.

'Everyone's in the hunt': RA won't rule out stunning Wallabies return after Cheika departs Argentina role

Christy Doran, it must be a slow news day if you’re still sharing updates on Eddie Jones. Can we stop hearing about the guy!?! 🙂

'Not good enough': England in disarray as Fiji pull off historic win to emerge as World Cup's darkest horse

100% agree – give the next generation a chance.

WILL GENIA: Players, not Rennie, at fault for Bok shocker but time for KB and Foley to restore spark and composure

David, I recall those two occasions and was wondering the same thing. I think the first incident led to a try? All I can think of was the intensity and speed of the counter-ruck probably confused the ref and the second may have been borderline, hence he let go. Anyway, Brumbies were in control last night but against Crusaders, Blues, full strength Reds and rising Waratahs, every advantage counts.

REACTION: 'It sucks, quite frankly'- Sam Cane laments home loss to strong, clinical Brumbies

…well….maybe Prof. Cheung can test the tackle intesity of Barry (trans rugby player) and Bernice (female rugby player), both of similar build, weight, height etc and share the experience.

What we learnt from Super W this season

Vinaka Tia.

Act like a lady play like a beast: The Tamarra Morriss story

Marika has given plenty for Australia, the fact he is paid top $$ is a testament to his performance and ability – don’t try to knock a guy who came from humble beginnings and wants to set himself and his family up for life.

One Wallaby on rugby rich list top 10 as Bok, ex-All Black share No.1 spot

Brett, I’m glad Rennie is sticking with the same team for test 2. I feel Australia’s lack of depth is also made worse by lack of opportunity. SR sides and Wallabies don’t offer enough chances to the younger talent – Look at Simone from Brumbies who never got much chance at Tahs. Thorn making gutsy call to blood next gen is reaping rewards in SR AU. There’s a tendency to fall back on established players with plenty of test cap BUT many of which has been in losses.

The rugby two-up: 'It's not rust, Australia lacks depth in every position'

Thanks Nic. Would you say this is a problem of all the Australian teams and not only the Reds? That is, are tight fives more focussed on scrums, set piece and close contact (both attack & defence) rather than being able to range around the field as the NZ forwards?

Why there are more Townsville twists and turns to come for the Reds in Super Rugby Trans-Tasman

@Brett Mckay – where would you have Seru Uru or Naisarani if they were ready for Wallabies?

2021 has been the making of Brumbies back-rower Rob Valetini

agree. I totally forgot about him!

Get your questions in for Issue 9 of Coach's Corner

Hi Nick. I have the following questions:

Is Tupou’s scrumming legal? He is always angling in toward the hooker and doesn’t appear to disguise it either.

If you were Wallabies coach, who would you select as your #8 now and for the RWC and why?

Is Noah Lolesio in a form slump and if so what does he need to improve?

Thank you for taking the time to write your articles and host this blog.

i agree. I watched his game against the Brumbies in SRAU where the tahs lost in the last minute. He was decent. Unfortunately Ned Hannigan might have started his international career prematurely OR Chieka didn’t send him away with a list of things to work on and improve. Like Samu and a lot of other green wallabies, it’s easy for us to critique their performance but the problem is they were selected, not ready to perform and the coach/selectors persisted. In this case, Rennie has the guts to drop and change players rather than persist. If anything I want Hannigan to prove Rennie right in picking him and give wallaby supporters comfort that there is growing depth in our #6 and locking stocks. GO THE WALLABIES!

agree with you on Valetini’s contact and defence. For this game we need line breakers and line benders, not a drop on contact selection.

Trying to keep an open mind here with some of these selections. Let’s wait and see.

I hope the Wallabies back it up at “Coopers Catch Park” with another excellent performance and a win…then it’s safe to say we could be turning a corner. Great article as always Nick. Thanks.

Thanks PeterK for pointing that out. I still think he was reliable for an inexperienced international.

Wallabies Bledisloe 1 DIY player ratings vs New Zealand: The results

Pete Samu was reliable for the Wallabies. From memory I don’t think he conceded any penalties, made his tackles, was reliable at the break-down in terms of entry, technique etc (hence no penalties conceded) and covered ground pretty good. I don’t think he lost any possession in contact either. That’s why Rennie let him play 80+ minutes. He is also “new” to test rugby so we can’t expect him to light it up but with the limited international experience he performed well imo.

If Paisami struggles then JOC may move to 13 and Lolesio brought on at #10. JOC played pretty good at 13 imo when Chieka put him there last year. This is a balanced team. Good backrow selection with an attacking prop in Tupou. Could be a fire-cracker side.
