He has been very unlucky (Pierson) his first few years (batting) were disappointing which cost him, since then he has been excellent and a good keeper. Being made state captain sometimes seems a mixed blessing if you are looking for higher honours too.

i dont think they will change but Carey has shown he can perform in big games in the past, Inglis high point 40-odd against Sri Lanka, and an average of less than 20 after 14 ODI’s is longer than some careers at this level. Phillipe not making runs again, Pierson still is, he could be next after this series.

Mccullums (2 of 3 thank you very much) were after players had completed runs and were then wandering down the pitch to shake their opponents hand, not much room for doubt there, doing it twice make’s subsequent ( post retirement) remorse pretty dubious. Careys throw was immediate. If you cant see a distinction you aren’t trying.

have to say when I saw Starc’s “catch” all I thought was “wtf are you doing putting the ball on the ground?’ who does that at any level of cricket , even Aussie rules if you take a mark you will suffer any pain or injury to try to keep the ball off the ground, let alone a test match on manicured lawn

Where is our coach in all this? Hypocrisy and rubbish from McCullum who has done it twice (the one of Muralitharan outrageous) but no defence or in fact anything from McDonald. Really weak.

Agree, a “bad miss” which serious commentators ( ex test players) called Warners “every day of the week”.
