NRL Week 1 finals match-ups: Playoff fixtures LOCKED IN

OK.

NRL Week 1 finals match-ups: Playoff fixtures LOCKED IN

And thanks for proving my point – again.
Cheers.

NRL Week 1 finals match-ups: Playoff fixtures LOCKED IN

Look, there’s some fun to be had on here – but not with you clearly.
Not interested in wasting my time.
Sorry.

NRL Week 1 finals match-ups: Playoff fixtures LOCKED IN

What I mean is – stop making Cronulla play the last game of the round.
It happened last year as well.
It means they have less time before they play their final than the other teams.
I can’t make this any clearer.

ANALYSIS: Cronulla kick clear to seal home final after horror Kris tackle spears Raiders' chances

It’s irrelevant when the draw was done.
My point is simple – share around the last game of the last round, in fact both games on Sunday.
That’s all.

I know it’s a tough concept to grasp but give it a try – what I want is for the NRL to share around having to play on the last day of the regular season.
That’s it.
Got it yet?

My point is it would be nice to share around the last game of the last round, in fact both games on Sunday.
The Roosters will benefit from the extra two days – that’s a fact.

Oh dear. You don’t get it. Oh well. Ask someone to explain it to you.

I couldn’t give a toss what you think.

You’re the ‘guru’ who gives a like to someone who claimed that someone else who agreed with Gould on one issue was the president of his fan club – sounds like a rational response.

On that performance – and with two extra days of rest – Roosters should win.
Not sure Nicho is fully fit, Trindall’s game has gone off in a big way (hope he’s not doing the goalkicking again), the side looked very nervous, lots of dropped ball as usual and a clunky attack.
The positive is they won.
Not a lot else to get excited about though at least Nicho appeared to get through unscathed.
There are suggestions Kennedy may be back.
Great – play him and put Tracey on the bench, he’s a sensational utility.
I wouldn’t play four forwards on the bench again.
Cronulla has just five full days off before playing the Roosters on Saturday night.
As so as often happens Cronulla screwed over by the NRL.
Forced to play the last game of the last round (again) and then a short turnaround with Roosters having played two days earlier.
I’d like to have a word with those responsible for the draw in a hotel car park late at night.
The team that finished eighth gets a full week off – how very fair.

Oh poor Mithen.
He doesn’t like Cronulla hosting finals games.
Poor dear.
Boo hoo.

The Roar’s NRL expert tips and predictions Round 27: Jostling for position, resting the weary, trying to survive, playing for pride

Cronulla offered a false dawn when it seemed they ‘may’ have turned a corner with their woeful defence in the past three weeks.
I wrote it seemed to be on the mend but I was still “unconvinced”.
I was right to be sceptical.
They fell apart in the second half, no line speed, a non-existent defensive ‘line’ – in reality more staggered than a drunk in a pub that Ponga feasted on, some clueless passes and their usual mountain of errors.
Special mention to Wade Graham who, in a fine skipper’s performance, began the rot with his spectacular imititation of a pass from dummy half – Newcastle scored soon after.
What a shambles.
So very on brand.
This bunch of listless losers now face the Raiders who can beat them in the sleep.
Good luck with that.
Fitzgibbon might be better off planning the end of season trip.
Of course when they are dumped very quickly out of the comp – either pre-finals or week one – he’ll sprout the usual crap, the same crap he sprouted after they were humiliated in the finals last year.
Then they’ll do their pre-season and talk themselves up and how they’ve learnt their lesson etc etc etc crap, crap, crap etc and then the whole sad, inevitable comedy of a season will start again.
For those who abhor change Cronulla is the team to follow – this mob have been turning in this garbage since their last decent season in 2018.

Shoulder injury a downer after perfect Ponga delivers eighth win on the trot to lift Knights past Sharks into fifth spot

“His (Ponga’s) run from the backfield early in the second half when he collected the ball just inside the sideline and then sprinted through and around the teeth of the Sharks defence was special.”
There was no “teeth” in the Sharks’ defence.
Nothing new in that area.
Just the 32 points let in – business as usual from the losers from the Shire.

Round 26 Talking Points: JWH, Ricky and a few others a bit 'tired and emotional' as pressure of finals race hits boiling point

I have been highly critical of the Sharks’ defence or lack of it this season and in the finals last year.
And in fact over the past several years.
They went from a tough, hard nosed, defensive team to a side that was clearly fine with letting in plenty as long as they scored more.
No team lasts long in the finals – if they get there – with that approach.
For me the nadir was the final against the Cows last year – they let in 32 points at home.
Disgraceful.
For much of this season it’s been the same.
I am still far from convinced their defence will hold up.
But I do see positive signs at least.
The attitude seems better – and attitude and aggression is key in a good defensive system.
There are still some bad misses but there is the fight that seemed to be lacking.
I desperately hope it continues.
I think critics of the win over the Cows need to take a few things into account – the game was in humidity city Townsville, the Cows were coming off the bye, they were just about full strength and they boast a side packed with current Origin players.
It’s a very good win.
My problem with Cronulla isn’t when they lose – it’s when they don’t dig in and fight.
Right now they seem to be – if they continue in that vein some top eight rivals will be in for some trouble.

Sharks' ruthless efficiency against minnows doesn't give them a hope in finals when there's bigger fish to fry

One other highlight.
I must admit I got rather emotional when Paul Green’s delighful daughter led the Sharkies out and fist bumped Wade who responded with a big and genuine smile.
Just a lovely moment.

ANALYSIS: Sharks all but in after crushing win as Cowboys attack falls flat - good job they completed high, right?

I reckon there’s a very good chance you are right.

ANALYSIS: Sharks all but in after crushing win as Cowboys attack falls flat - good job they completed high, right?

The Sharks arrested the slide by deciding they were prepared to tackle after all.
Had they continued on their not so merry way they’d have been planning for mad Monday.
Key to the improvement was Trindall coming in – the left edge is no longwer the attack magnet it was.
His combination with Nicho is building well too and his 40/20 came at a key moment.
I have always thought of Nicho as a 5/8 and Trindall is allowing him to play more like one – he has certainly taken much of the pressure off him.
Great to see Wado back to fine form – I wish he wasn’t retiring.
It does seem as if his decision to retire has really spurred him.
The left foot kick brought back some great memories.
Nostalgia is what it used to be in this case.
I am just glad I they seem prepared to dig in and fight – because at times this season they have shown they are not keen on that.
Hope it continues and that they’ve turned the corner – for good.

ANALYSIS: Sharks all but in after crushing win as Cowboys attack falls flat - good job they completed high, right?

The highlights for me.
4) The defence.
3) The score.
2) The second try.
1) Wado’s try – the work by Trindall was superb – just beautiful – as was the smile on Wado’s face when he scored on a night dedicated to his 250 game milestone.
Loved it.

ANALYSIS: Sharks on the charge as Cronulla beat down Titans - so much even Wade Graham scored

Left one thing out – Wado was a fantastic ball player.
Legend.

NRL News: Sharks legend calls time, SBW in Haas' ear as he considers future, PVL keen to restart RLPA negotiations

Graham is one of the greatest Sharks and I dearly hope he goes out on a high note.
At his peak he was unlike any back rower I’ve seen.
He could hit with the power of a prop and run superb lines but it was his kicking game that really set him apart – his left foot kick was lethal to an onrushing defence.
He was a 5/8 in a back rower’s body.
On top of that he was incredibly loyal to the club and selfless and above all a damned good bloke.
He’s doing work in the media – hope there is more of it – he’s better than many of the former players who work in it.
And of course I hope he stays with the club and works with current players.
That 2016 pack was quite a unit: Graham, Lewis, Gallen, Fifita, Ennis, Prior, Bukuya.
Tough with a capital T.

Somehow they have decided to dig in in defence – finally.
Sure hope it continues and I agree on the Penrith game.
Interested to see Moylan on the bench – as much as his defensive frailties on the left edge were a massive problem – his combination with Hynes was spectacular.
Love to see him still in the 17 if possible – a great attacker.
Would have been interested to see where Fitz intended to play him had he got on.

ANALYSIS: Sharks stun Souths with first-half demolition - leaving Bunnies' title hopes in tatters

Magnificent performance from McInnes.
In all their games he stands up and competes – including their horrific defeats.
Had they competed the way they did against Penrith against Manly last week, the Warriors at home and a few other games they’d be already certain of their place in the finals.
Pity the need to dig in took so long to sink in.
Their handling was appalling though of course – something always has to be substandard it seems but some of that was due to the superb Penrith defence.
Losing Kennedy was a huge blow – they could not afford the disruption that ensued.
Penrith will win another title – no doubt about it.
As for Cronulla I’d be surprised if Kennedy plays again this year – a great pity.
Tracey and Iro are options – I wonder though if Moylan is worth a shot – they swtiched him to 5/8 partly due to his hamstring issues but it’s worth consideration – he wouldn’t be an attack magnet on the left edge and it would reunite him with Hynes in attack – I’ve no doubt Nicho has missed him – together they formed a superb attacking combination – one that Trindall is yet to form with Hynes.
It seems a waste that with Kennedy gone an excellent attacker such as Moylan isn’t used.
Especially now with every competition point vital.
