The starting loose head for the Tahs ( a kiwi I think) played his guts out.

'Last few years have been hell': Iceman 2.0 Harrison gets 'dream come true' in Tahs' stunning golden point win

That (Wallaby positions hype) comes with any Tahs win Charlie but good luck to them.

Oh FFS. No one is saying Harrison is the Wallaby 10 front runner, but let’s just be happy a fine young player had his injuries
I’m a Queensland fan ( hint in my handle) but I was thrilled to see the Tahs get a win against the kiwis tonight and see so many Tahs players go well.

Great win to the Tahs and well done Will Harrison. Very pleasing for any true supporter of Australian rugby to see this moment for him. And indeed NSW rugby

Ryan has steadily improved and grown into being a reliable and consistent SR second row who does the tough and necessary tight 5 work. Great to see and all the best to him as his career develops.

'Brutal and violent': The two aspects Reds workhorse wants to fix to take next step towards Wallabies

The tackle on Lynagh was premediated and late. The very definition of a cheap shot. It was deliberate foul play and should have been carded. You are trying to justify what is illegal and more importantly, what I strongly contend is cowardly play. Creaming 5/8ths when they are looking elsewhere and have got rid of possession isn’t hard or good rugby, its thuggery.

Five things we learned: One area Gordon must fix to convince Wallabies boss, ABs bruiser should be on notice

Agree. Carter is the best “corners” kicker in Australian rugby since Tom Banks, whose very occasional miss was compensated by his constant finding of the line under 10 metres out, i.e. creating a try scoring opportunity for ye olde rolling maul. This is an under rated skill.
Carter does have a problem with his goal kicking. He’s had it for a long time, since school days. His technique and ability generally is very good, just needs to work on consistency and process (thats a modern way of saying its a mental problem, not ability).

Now that its a New Zealand 10 being hit by cheap shot merchant Finau expect action to be taken next time. He should have been binned for his tackle on Lynagh, which was clearly late and premeditated.

I am being polite Muzzo 😊
Every tournament this year has seen a key player (sometimes more than one) suspended for vast hunks of it. Difficult to build cohesion and confidence given this constant disruption and it shows.
And the constant failures from our own kick offs resulting in the Oppo getting a free kick on the halfway line does my head in. These are, after all, professional players. Surely you would practice this skill again and again to eliminate this? No surprise but of course the kiwi’s show that it can be done by a well drilled team, and reap the benefits.

'Hung in there': Aussie men and women set up Hong Kong Sevens semi-finals against New Zealand

Men beaten for the third playoff by Ireland. Not bad, but lacked their playmakers. And a few dropsies. Mens comp is pretty even and it depends who shows up that week. Argentina, seemingly invincible a few tournaments back, didn’t even make the quarters here so its tough.

'Hung in there': Aussie men and women set up Hong Kong Sevens semi-finals against New Zealand

Women win the 3rd place playoff with a great last 3 minutes scoring 3 tries and icing the game after the bell. Best they have played the whole tournament with finally some purpose and direction. They were sparked into action by one of the debutants Bridget Clark who scored a great try and in the final play did a really good bit of handling to pick up a ball from her feet and keep the game alive – top shelf.
Umm, the usual problem … first two Aus kickoffs resulted in the Oppo getting the ball back on the halfway line. They really, really need to eliminate that.
Reality is they are off the pace and skill of the kiwi’s and will need to improve before Paris.

Coach Walsh obviously likes to operate a laid back and chilled approach but FGS they need to improve a few basics – noticeably restarts ( you can bank on every 2nd kickoff not going 10 or out on the full) and of course getting a key player sent off and suspended for head shots every tournament.
And I know Tom Carters conditioning is famously tough, but other teams look a bit more match hardened.

Men lose. Score a fair reflection. Moz left with too much to do on his own. NZ too big and skilled.

'Hung in there': Aussie men and women set up Hong Kong Sevens semi-finals against New Zealand

Women lose. Closer than the 2 scores gap indicates but the Black Ferns clearly superior… more cohesive and conditioned as a unit than our team. Need Bienne and ALF back and firing if we are to challenge the kiwis for the gold in Paris.
Black Ferns connectivity and football smarts on display.

'Hung in there': Aussie men and women set up Hong Kong Sevens semi-finals against New Zealand

Any word why Bienne Terita didn’t play yesterday? Hopefully not a serious injury as she is key IMO today. The women don’t look quite at their best/settled, but lets hope they aim up today against the Kiwi’s. They need a few players to run the hard lines, make the big tackles, and compete at the breakdown.
Very good effort by the men yesterday.
Good luck to both teams today!

Can you imagine the frothing that would be going on from Sydney media and Sydney types if Max had scored the tries the Tool (©️James Slipper) has produced this year? Tonight, in Dunedin, the extravaganza him and Wright put on a few weeks back …

Brumbies make it 12 straight against Tahs as Bell hobbles off in worrying sign for Wallabies

Robertson the prop was playing for Oxford University in the Varsity match a few weeks ago. Him and Oxford got rinsed btw.

Beale's back! Wallabies star joins Western Force after injury opens the door for veteran's return

Depressed not to see Izack Rodda on any Western Force team sheet. We were assured 2 weeks away 2 weeks ago. Not a great sign.

Hoping Pasitoa can come back though its not looking good.

Good luck to Kurtley though the 3 musketeers ship has sailed.
The Force unfortunately flogged last night with their heavy injury toll in the forwards.

IMO the women look better with Bienne Terita back in the team. They need her to run some hard lines. Good stuff from both debutants in the Irish game.

'I was bloody nervous': Hooper stars on Aussie sevens debut, women on track in HK despite red card

This. Though they did panic in that last play to allow the French flier to show his pace.
Hope Maurice is fit for the weekend.

Great read thanks. Lets hope Italy can continue to prosper though the end is concerning.
Had forgotten that extra feature of JON return of CEO (disbandoning the central structure). All about appeasing his Sydney mates and the god of the Shute Shield. An utter disaster.
The last of the finds of the 2006 ARC whose game was able to develop in this competition retires this year after a truly stellar career. Pity its been at the Roosters for the last 17 years.

How Italy revolutionised their youth system to produce a golden generation – and what Australia can learn from it

Well they get the square root of FA people to their games at AAMI anyway … if they get 5000 passionate supporters at this new venue then that’ll put them ahead of where they are now.

Good news and can see how it might work actually.
