Just a rugby and cricket nuffy currently playing Colts footy in Brisbane and a proud BSHS graduate.

You really do forget about some of these players and assume they have retired. Another great read, cheers

Don’t forget, despite what Michael Cheika would have you believe, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto is primarily a lock.

The big questions coming out of the shortest ever Australian rugby pre-season

Anyone know if a replay is available? You’d think this would be a very basic thing to make available for fans who couldn’t make the game or watch the livestream.

Reds look the goods in pre-season trial

I’d have thought Matthew Wade was more likely to be dropped than Burns? Burns has got a good record at test level, especially considering he has been dropped numerous times and even considering his recent subpar form. Would be a serious injustice to have him dropped again.

Whereas Wade has not performed up to standard in the ten tests since he was recalled.

Langer says Test side likely to stay unchanged for June series against Bangladesh

I agree with the sentiment as far as smaller grounds although I don’t think Ballymore was the best example because I believe it’s genuinely not allowed to be played at anymore because it has deteriorated so much. Although perhaps QRU should focus more on fixing it and less on renting Suncorp Stadium.

The Australian view from across the water: Scott Fardy

Had a quick look and the kick was inside the 22 on the 15 metre line so you wouldn’t think the ball falling short of the dead ball line would be the issue although it’s possible they didn’t want to risk a rebound off the upright perhaps. I’d say the players out there didn’t know any better because every one of them looked content when the ball was kicked out… still leaves you wondering what the coaching staff were doing not running a message out and/or letting the players know of the match situation. Here I was thinking the strong second half goal line defense was because Brisbane were intent on a third place finish!

Two favourites, the defending champs, and the best Queenslanders: The road to the NRC semi-finals

Yep, true.

I just thought there’d at least be a coach screaming at them from the sideline to take the points. I believe the QLD Country v Drua game finished just before the Brisbane v Melbourne game so perhaps the coaches didn’t bother to figure out exactly what was needed to finish third.

So on the weekend to the best of my knowledge Brisbane City needed to win by 6 points or more to get above Fijian Drua into third place which would mean a trip down to Canberra instead of across the country to play the minor premiers the Force (a 6 point win would’ve put City on equal points with Drua and ahead of Drua in points difference). So why was it that when Brisbane City on full time, up by 3 points and with a penalty right in front of the posts, opted to kick it out instead of taking the 3? Am I wrong in believing that if points on the table are tied, it is then wins that is considered and then points difference that is considered? Am I smarter then all the Brisbane City players, coaching staff and the commentators on Saturday or am I missing something?

Yeah I don’t have much of an idea about costs but I think a good estimate would be that to have DRS implemented in Shield cricket would be rather expensive.

I have little opinion about the Shield? I’m not even sure what that means.

I’m offering a gues that no one follows Shield? No, it is common knowledge that Sheffield Shield is followed only by die hard fans and that internationals+big bash is followed exponentially more. In fact Shield doesn’t even generate revenue.

It’s a shame that people on this website would rather resort to playing dumb and throwing around petty comments then have a constructive discussion.

Maddinson and Harris push Test claims with Shield tons

Of course it has to do with how many people watch the game. Cricket Australia don’t particularly care if calls are wrong in Shield because no one is watching and they don’t get backlash. Cricket Australia doesn’t care if players’ Shield futures are on the line, all they care about is money.

I’d imagine the costs to set up expensive microphones in each end of the pitch, pay third umpires and possibly an assistants wage (to control the camera angles shown to the third umpire) would be expensive. Not to mention I have no idea what the process would be like to set up the undoubtedly expensive cameras in line with the popping crease at each end (4 cameras) and having to set up the microphone so that it is perfectly in time with the cameras. But I’d imagine it’d be a massive process. So what is the cost? Millions probably. All this for up to 124 days of cricket that no one really follows?

DRS will never be implemented in Shield and rightfully so. It is costly and no one watches Shield barring die hards. For the final maybe but even then introducing such a big tactical facet to the game in the biggest match would be somewhat farcical.

Anyone know why Patterson isn’t playing this round? Injured?

What’re the odds that the two games that’ll possibly be cancelled are this massive? Shame.

CONFIRMED: All Blacks vs Italy, England vs France both cancelled due to Super Typhoon Hagibis

Agreed

Early days, but some of these NRC Law Variations have merit

Yep, the commentators remarked even the best get it wrong.

This might’ve been mentioned already but the assistant on the far side later informed Nic Berry that the 22/50 kick had to bounce first (he didn’t inform him straight away because his microphone wasn’t working).

Although with dew and sweat that gets on the ball it is usually damp

Oh dear, away Lions draw the penalty count and lose the match

I’m assuming the tips were lodged before it was revealed Pocock and Alaalatoa are out this weekend haha, shame. That news was certainly enough for me to change my tip to the Waratahs.

Super Rugby Round 5: Perfection lives here

Sorry, I only read the first two paragraphs, but what a load of crap! “A Chicago newspaper confusing the All Blacks as an Aussie team shows how little interest there is for rugby in the USA.” Are you bloody kidding me! What about the 65 000 crowd that turned up? That lot are obviously new to the sport and they are bound to make a few mistakes, but, bloody hell, the Suncorp Bledisloe match didn’t even sell out! And that is in Australia where rugby is pretty popular. And then the kiwis head to USA where they’ve got evidently no clue of our sport, but get a 65 000 strong crowd – and to say they’ve got no interest in rugby! LOL.

Rugby must invest in the Pacific, not the USA

Wrong sport.

Wallabies*

Wales on edge for 'clinical' Wallbies

“Nor has there been any apology forthcoming from former Wallaby coach Ewen McKenzie, whose treatment of Beale – including his refusal to select him – deserved explanation.”

Ewen McKenzie needs to explain why he didn’t select Kurtley Beale! Lmfao! Let me do it for him. He selected Beale at fly-half for gods sake, he was average for a couple of games and got dropped to the bench. He came on against South Africa in Cape Town and performed one of the worst displays I’ve ever seen of rugby in my life and therefore got dropped. In fact, my understanding is he had to get dropped anyway because by then the whole texting drama had started by then.

Ewen McKenzie was a pretty average selector – yes – but you don’t need to constantly remind us. Lordy!
